    JH pedals can only work in the JH SET of pedals. They don't give you a choice. That sound was NO 1960's sound. The custom signal from the JH wah requires the JH fuzz pedal to convert. No amp can accept the custom signal from the JH wah pedal.

    John Frusciante has the best wah sound IMO, especially the way he uses it during improvised solos live (also there is a really cool guitar lesson session with him, where he showcases it in an epic solo). Actually I think less is often more with the wah. For example I really like Jimi turning it on for a solo and then leave it, just to kick the sound. Electric funeral is a great example for a dark sound. Voodoo childe is the climax of wah history.

    Recently learned about the "cocked wah" technique, basically staying in a static position on the wah to hone in on a certain tone, as used by Mark Knopfler a la Dire Straits in Money for Nothing, STP on Vasoline, and many more. I always wanted to know how they obtained that tone, now I know! B.t.w Paul you look absolutely thrilled to be doing a video on wah ;)

    Excellent demonstration. The only thing missing was the 'cocked wah' or 'parked wah' technique characteristic of players like Mick Ronson, who used the wah set to a particular position purely as a filter, to emphasise a particular section of the mids. There are now pedals dedicated to reproducing these static sounds, but at the time 'parking' a wah was the only way to do it.

    It was a terrible sound video. JH signature equipment doesn't work outside of the set of JH pedals. Clearly YOU can hear there was NO 1960's Thomas wah sound at all. If YOU were right VOX would take dunlop to court and beat them with a big stick.

    He hasn't activated the JH original Thomas wah sound yet and we've been waiting for 3 years already. None of those sounds were remotely related to a 1960's wah sound. I can make all of JH's original sounds exactly. I own all of the JH equipment. There was NO voodoo sounds throughout this entire video. Stop being disrespectful to JH. Jimi PAID a lot of money to make his Wah sounds. You don't get that sound from 1 pedal.

    WD-40 is not a lubricant, well not a very good one anyway. It'll do in a pinch but as it evaporates the squeak will likely come back. Better off to use a dedicated spray lubricant, my preference being a dry teflon spray like used on bicycle chains.

  • @akmadsen

    @akmadsen

    3 жыл бұрын

    Do you have a source on that, because that doesn't sound right. The sweep movement is much too smooth for a pickup selector with only 5 states (like on a strat), besides, the filtering from a wah creates a peak whereas switching pickup positions produce a more shelf like shape. Hendrix is using a Vox wah pedal here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/m5Z-lbiGpJnflrg.html

  • @williamrusso3130

    @williamrusso3130

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@akmadsen It's a pretty easy trick to accomplish. Just set the neck tone to 1. Just listen to the lick from the studio version closely. You can actually hear the sound of the selector clicking. If you play a Strat, it's a very distinct sound that you'll recognize immediately. It's definitely a different sound than what Jimi got from his pedal.

  • @akmadsen

    @akmadsen

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@williamrusso3130 Trust me, I've listened to it closely for several decades and I don't believe for a second that he's using the pickup selector for the wah effect. No matter how you dial the tone knobs, you're not going to achieve anything that's going to be mistaken for an actual wah. But hey, if you can show me a reliable source for it, I'll happily be convinced otherwise, but you'll have to find something more convincing than "just listen".
