Compared to who though? Compared to the rest of the 1st world here in the US seem to have no issues with mismanagement because we define government very differently... In the US the government is the buracucy which is doing just fine like it always has dispite polticans from all sides domastic and abroad trying to tear it down. Meanwhile in europe the UK is ran much like turkey aka into the ground and the EU has a ton of actually infighting despite Russian fighting a war with a wannabe member. Compared the the 2nd world... Yeah China is fixing for another warlord period and india has no idea what's it's doing.

I live in upstate New York. Farming, mountains, and trees here. The cancer of this state is the city. They have the population and the votes to enforce their views and ideals upon the rest of the state. If only we had an electoral college in New York State, then the many who live in such a small fraction of land mass of the state would have less control of our lives. We are two different worlds.

Blue states are heavily buying into ESG which enforces unsustainable energy grids and unlivable costs. Those that want to live will flee blue states just to survive. Its going to be an interesting situation once blue voters in those blue states realize they are going to need to work like slaves to sustain society anything like it is now because the people doing those jobs now are going to have to leave or starve in the street. I just hope the idiots that voted Biden don't make the same mistake once they move to a red state. We're only at like 10% of what the end goal is for ESG goals... if people think energy costs and inflation is bad now they're in for a real surprise.

My view is that there must be a war, a significant one, to bring the country back to pragmatic politics. For eg, you can’t change to “electric, net zero” that fast. We need to, not because of climate warming, but for clean air but we need to take this ideology with the bigger picture: war in Ukraine, renewables are not ready to fill the gap for a very long time, better technology is only slowly developing and the precious metals are mostly based with out chief enemy, China who are built coal power plants weekly. Only a war will make us realise we need to start thinking about this anew and practically. It will be catastrophic, of course, but I cannot think of anything else that will disturbed this mad complacency.

As a former NYC and Orange County resident, I would also like to add that the once Empire State has always been a magnet for freeloaders because of its generous welfare benefits going back to the 1950's. Generations of New Yorkers have grown up on these freebees from the state. Crime has always been a problem in past times confined to certain neighborhoods. Crime has now become a statewide problem. As for self-defense with a firearm, forget about it. Oil has actually been discovered in Orange County and I believe with modern drilling techniques could be found in other areas of the state but with the irrational climate cultist that won't be developed either. New York State is much more than NYC with very beautiful areas with much potential. I would like to see everything north of NYC become its own state as much of upstate New York is actually conservative.

I lived in the city for many years, going to Broadway shows, jazz clubs, etc. I now live in Texas and I won't even go back there for a visit. It breaks my heart to see the city turn into a complete and total cesspool. Soon it will be nothing more than a giant Section 8 city , crawling with unemployed illegal immigrants. NYC has lost billions of tax dollars, everybody is leaving, along with tons of businesses. Tourists aren't about to risk their lives getting mugged on the streets of the city, so I wouldn't plan on a huge tourist summer this year or years in the future. What's to see in NYC, thugs looting stores, tons of illegals wandering the streets, no jobs, don't speak the language or even want to learn it. The mayor just tossed Veterans out of hotels and put the illegals in those rooms. The mayor is busy waving his little race card around, yelling diversity at the top of his lungs. See how far that gets you.

Same, I used to stop through there twice a summer. I came through there last month for the first time after the pandemic. Horrified on how bad it is there. I can't believe people would want to live there. Just to get an Uber ride back and forth from my hotel in Tribeca (I was smart enough to know never to set foot on the subway), have a steak and eggs breakfast in Juniors in Midtown and have a ride back was $150 total just have a Saturday morning breakfast by myself Someone on KZread was showing a 1 bd apartment in lower midtown and it's $4100 a month. Who would want to pay those prices in a broken city? Tons of empty buildings where I was, I remember thinking NYC was going downhill 5 years ago but it's a complete train wreck there. Why anyone would want to move there is beyond comprehension. It's a massive waste of money and depressing.

I've lived in Philly, Chicago and NYC, and go to other parts of the country extensively. What is ailing these cities is just another symptom of what is ailing America. It is an endemic sickness that will not be cured by people continuously fleeing from one end to another in search of a utopia and pitying those who remain behind to deal with the consequences. The truth of the matter is the country is in decline, and what is occurring in these cities reflect this truth in high profile.

@Dennis Merwood It's a complex thing. Arguably speaking fossils fuels are renewable resources they just take a very long time to form again for one. For two the CO2 emissions are important for plant life. In fact per NASAs climate study iirc from last year they observed an average where the world got greener. There are MANY problems with EVs. Battery technology is not there(after all if EVs were mass marker viable they wouldn't have died out in the 1910s-1920s like they did before.) The process of manufacturing them and harvesting the materials required is dirty work. Especially in places like Africa and China where many rare metals come from. Hand mining cobalt is a thing. EVs are not easy to recycle like ICE powered vehicles are thanks to the volatile nature of their lithium power packs. That's just EVs. Why not look at solar and wind? Solar requires materials that use arsenic to create. Solar panels are also difficult to recycle thanks to toxic heavy metals inside them. They also do not last long enough. What about wind power? Hydrocarbons are used in every step of the process and on top of that the blades are extremely difficult to recycle due to the resin impregnation used. I'd rather stick with my dino juice car that I know will work instead of hoping my batter pack will last the entire loan of the car.

You are 100% correct. I am a direct beneficiary of a defined benefit pension and it is nothing more than a legalized Ponzi scheme. But on top of that it is also used to quiet us against corruption. Most will do anything to protect their pension and that includes zipping their lip while their peers are stealing or misusing tax dollars.
