Being a Parasound amp owner (zonemaster 2, 2125v2), I took it for granted that every amplifier has what mine has: at least a trigger input (bonus is a trigger output to turn on the subwoofers), loop out RCA for subwoofers, bonus crossover Hz adjustment, bonus gain adjustment, bonus stereo/bridged selector. While shopping for a new amp ( No trigger input=no sale for me (I cancelled my order for the Musical Fidelity M6s PRX amplifier and a used Passlab xa25 which is $5k new). The NAD C298 and M23 have so many options in the back like my Parasound.

I'm 64 years old. My ears are about the same age. Why would I spend $2400 on my $240 ears? I built the Mavin 6 pack speakers about 6 years ago. They still sound awesome to me. I also built a center channel from him that blew away my Polk center channel. Movies shake my entire house with no subwoofer. He told me I didn't need one. Now I have an SVS that helps the cats jump on top of my Mavins. Sometimes I'm caught off guard and swing my head to the side to see the sound I'm hearing. The stage is wide. Got about $500 in the whole thing. Powered by a Yamaha 300 series AV unit. Love your channel because I love truth! Thanks, Audioman!

In a world of $70k power cables and $300K speakers and other luxury audio components it is a beautiful thing that we can find components that do in fact equal or exceed the market pricing in terms of value and performance. It is also a beautiful thing that beautiful things exist. Sales, open box, scratch and dent, used, factory refurbished as well as market competition/technological advancement are the value purchaser’s friend. Great video content. 🙏🙏🙏 to the Cheap and Value Audio Man

It would be nice to see a comparison between a receiver and nice integrated amp. Some people are on the fence between the 2 or even use the receiver in a 2.1 config just for convenience factor which I personally do. My living room wound up not having a great layout so I never set it the 5.1 and am music centric anyways so for me personally I've always wondered how much I leave on the table using a receiver compared to integrated

I said it before and I’ll say it again…. That amp is gorgeous!!!! If it sounds half as good as it looks it’s worth 2500 any day. I always hear people say “don’t waste your money”….. If it brings you joy and meets your expectations then it’s money well spent…. I’d rather save for a better product then buy something cheap that under preforms to my expectations. To each their own and power to you. Do what makes you happy despite what anyone else tells you! 👍

Great review and totally agree. Amps like this Loxjie, The SMSL AL200, Yamaha S301, and Fosi ZA3 have really changed the game for you can get for less than $500 in an amplifier. There is way better stuff out there, you just pay disproportionately more to get there but if you spend enough time with your music its probably worth it to you to make that jump to something nicer at some point down the road.

I get the ease of use with banana plugs, pins and spades but I’d rather take the time to very carefully connect bare wire because I don’t trust the quality of those connectors in the signal path. Paranoia probably but it helps me sleep at night 😂

The phono stage on the Advance Paris A10 Classic has 3 levels of capacitance preloading I see (at 8:48). 100pF, 200pF and 320pF. This will help a LOT in the treble response for your turntable/cartridge/interconnects - if there isn't enough treble at 100pF, then you can bump it up to 200pF or 320pF and get more treble.

@@cheapaudiomanright - higher capacitance preloading offsets the inherent capacitance of the cartridge/wiring/interconnects. You can select the level that sounds best. The AkitikA PR-102 optional phono preamp has about 6 levels of capactance preloading with jumpers on the board; as well as gain level. For a bit less than $100 it is a great phono stage.

Was it better than the $3K worth of gear (Schitt and Decware) I normally use? No, but it sounded pretty good. And I love it in my office system with a pair of Kanto YU 5.25" passives. A really nice match.

This seems to be a common theme in any musical equipment. When i was a youngin I played the violin. My first violin was right about $100. A couple of years later, my folks bought me an $800 violin with nice wooden bow. The difference was like night and day. I played $2500-5000 violins whenever i had a chance to wring one out, but sound-wise they didn't have a whole lot more to offer than what i had. My instructor had 2 violins that he played consistently. One was about $25k and the other was $300k. Yes, his $25k violin made mine sound like a string tied to a metal bucket. But, I heard him play both of his back to back and yes, the 300k one sounded a little better. That was what he played in live performances. Did it sound $275k better? I guess that depends on who you ask. It didn't to me and probably didn't to 99.999% of the people who listened to him play. But to him, it was worth the price.

I inherited a harmon kardon receiver probably 15 years ago, the thing is a machine, I even had one channel dedicated to an automotive set of subwoofers for a very long time at 2.5 ohms, never an issue, our church did a storage cleanup and was going to throw away a carver pt1250 amp, so I grabbed it, the fans had stopped working in it, I found some fan motors, wired them through a thermal switch, have it going to a legion audio 15 that I reconed, it runs off the sub output of the harmon, we later inherited some jbl studio series bookshelf speakers, so the harmon runs two kicker 10's in a gatley audio marketplace find enclosure, and also the jbl's, i put carbon fiber dust caps on the kickers so they appear to be more home audio, both channels of the carver to the duel voice coil 15, and all headed up with an aiyima BT tube preamp with some ge Jan tubes in it, so all in maybe 600$ and sounds incredible, some passive crossovers on the kickers, sub out runs the carver, gains set to not be overwhelming on the big sub, very very happy with this setup..

I can state this. I have the SMSL AO300 which is very similar to this Loxjie (minus the phono stage). I also own the Yamaha A-S2200 which is a really really nice integrated. Not related to the lower priced plastic cousins like the 801 etc. . I ran a set of Mofi Sourcepoint 10 from each of these. Anyone with even the most deficient hearing would have been able to tell which amp was driving what. There is a difference and it’s all about that power supply. I do think these smallish class D amps have their place for sure.

Vintage 3 head NAD is cassette deck back in another better shop to have just failed main motor (no more of, has be from other they have). The refurb. is gonna cost me total almost $1k. Still much less than a serviced, fine, vintage NAK (best upgrade or replace path option, Just Audio has, for example) or such . The refurb / repair last year of NAD vintage integrated amp seems good

Liking how you spin it. Worth saying that the speaker choice isn't that much of a worry with the expensive amp. If your driving well behaved bookshelf speakers things get easier for the budget amp. It's worth checking out second hand mid range gear as an alternative to new budget hifi. Especially if your thinking about driving big speakers. All doable for around $1000 too.

Its market, happens on everything. Furniture a $50 chair vs $500 chair. A car, a cheap car vs expensive. Does the same. I worked on manufacture for example, a peacemaker total production cost $500, market price $15k. Same happens in hifi market. The global market brought options with a low cost of manufacture with a good price. Im listening low cost class D amps from Fosi and Aiyima. Sound pretty good. But recently for fun i tried an small preamp P3 directly to my main power amplifier bypassing the $1k pre with the $80. I like it a lot. Sounded very good, still using it in that way. Definitely a $1k pre has some more body and soundstage. But the cost for that is waaay too much. There are some audiophile channels and they doesnt want to admit a $50 or $100 audio gear sound as good as their high price equipment…

Threw 'em in a closet until the early 2000s and then discovered the ebay wild west (which was much friendlier back then regarding taxes and fees). Under two hunnert bux worth of goods turned into a HUGE+++ multiple massive return, with which I bought video gear. Under the impression that High Definition was a passing fad, I bought a studio full of standard definition DV equipment. Oops.

When comparing integrated amps I suggest a test using a reference DAC to both to get a handle on the amplifiers themselves. It so muddies the water when comparing the internal DAC's in integrated amps too. The upgrade path for cheap audiophiles today should always run through DAC's. It would be best to know what the preferred analog portion of the compared amps are. Actually I think manufacturers are messing up by putting DAC's in so many integrated amps. Put the money in the amp, not an average and quickly worsening, comparatively, DAC. Hell, hook them both up right now to your J2. It is likely that mid cheap system, $700 to $1000, could include an amp with a built in DAC that will not be used.

The audiophile space is interesting because there is a budget for everything. Now if cam bought a moon amp and ls50 and he didn't like the ls50 that's ok. I have a pair and I think they're amazing. I bought at 800 brand new. At that price they are head and shoulders above everything under 1k. Build, bass, detail, imaging and arguably looks. There's a reason they're on the stereophile a list every year. Anyway, I think this comparo is interesting but the use case is different. Having a very compact amp with those inputs, especially HDMI, opens them up to home theater, the sound bar crowd, desktop systems and home systems as well. If I didn't already have an elac ea101 for my computer system and a unforced dda120 which the drivers don't work with windows any more, and no more support, same with elac no more android support for the app (700 euro amp, got for 400) I'd be looking at the wiim amp or this loxji (headphone jack is a huge bonus). I have several amps marantz pm15s1 which would be similar to this advance but it's 100 analog, but it's almost 20kg and gorgeous, but I also have nad 316bee, the elac, the unforced, marantz 6011 ht and I struggle to hear the difference ....

Value wise, vintage audio equipment is hard to beat. But it certainly isn't for everyone, and some popular models can be too expensive. But there are still plenty of options, and $200 would get you something decent. Usually, the "low powered" receivers get overlooked, but 25 watts of 1970's power will sound better than 300 watts of Class D Chinese power.

SMSL is decent, the A0300 (the brother to Loxjie minus the phono preamp) is very high sound quality, functionality, with "we'll see" durability (SU8s DAC died after 1 year). Simple fact is vast percentage of home audio is done using less than 5 watts of amp power. Why else does a 3/5 watt tube amp work for a lot of people? Why be surprised that a relatively low cost, low power amp will work as well as a high cost, high power amp? Electrical engineering is a mature field of study. Has been for over 50 years. A well designed, good performing amp is easily achieved. Most of the perceived differences is imagined. A properly set up double blind test demonstrates that over and over again. Just saying.

OK, how about this? Someone can ... - Buy a Loxjie, Fosi, Yamaha, Rotel or whatever plain looking amplifier that satisfies them sonically - Put that in a cabinet and close the door - Acquire an old Marantz, Pioneer, or whatever vintage amplifier they find particularly attractive, with a channel or two that no longer work, but the VU meters and such still work (cheap? maybe even free?) - Put THAT on top of the hifi cabinet Then proceed to ... - Enjoy wonderful sound reproduction without breaking the bank - Enjoy the visual art of some of the best faces that hifi manufacturers have ever produced - Blow away their friends when it appears that they're listening to a handsome vintage amplifier from the past, but adjust the volume and other settings from the couch using a remote Will this achieve the actual goal for many of us? Heck, I might try this myself this weekend with my old receiver and my newer Rotel. I can almost guarantee that my wife will get a good laugh out of it at my expense once she realizes what I'm doing. That's okay. I'm used to it.
