Hi Cecilia, I have been going through a really hard time in my life and your videos have kept me company on the worst days. My husband is losing his battle to cancer (though we still always will have hope) and we just got married, I’m only 25. If the worst happens I think I might try to visit/live in Scandinavia for a while and I’d love to visit Svalbard, the culture there seems so beautiful and peaceful. Thank you for bringing me some peace and I only wish the best for you, Christopher, Grim, and your family ❤

I could just imagine you walking in swinging a mouse by the tail & your poor mother trying to relax & feed your sister! I used to lock my daughter in her room whilst I tried to feed her brother as she always got into mischief. It was jealousy on her part; when my youngest son arrived, I bottle fed him so that he ended up more often than not with the pillow propped next to him with the bottle so that I could keep an eye on big sister. I love Sweden, it looks so beautiful & to be able to walk in the forest would be wonderful. It was strange to see you without your gun on you back, & the birdsong was so delightful. Something I love here in Australia is the bird life & noise of our native birds as they flit about enjoying life. I hope that you remembered everything Christopher wanted from the shops & that you bought him a special treat!! Also Grimm one as well!! It feels so strange to me getting your video though at 11 pm Sunday night as it usually comes in during the early hours of Monday so I sit & enjoy it when I have brunch around midday. So it is going to throw my Monday out of whack!! I might have to watch it again... ha, ha, ha!!

I loved seeing this beautiful scenery of where you grew up. I remained living closer to my parents and was glad I did at the end of their lives. My mom got brain cancer very unexpectedly at 72 and the last year of her life I spent a great deal of time with her. My dad lived much to much older, but the last year of his life I was grateful to be there for him in and out of the hospital stays and able to go to him when he needed me. My brother lives much further away and didn't really see them much at all at the end. There is value in all experiences, but it made more sense to me to stay closer to them. It's so pretty in your area of Sweden. I would love to visit there. We live in the Bay Area in California and we are fortunate to have many beautiful forests and hiking trails here too. Thanks a lot for this video. My mum reached a great age, and it was great to hear your Mum speaking. She seems like a delightful lady. Wishing your parents only the very best with their lives in Portugal. And they're grandparents !!! That takes the pressure off you Cecilia.

I loved this video. First of all both your parent’s homes are in beautiful settings in Portugal and Sweden, as their daughter, I’m sure it gives you lots of incentive to visit. I also really love the loving, easy-going rapport you have with your mom. It’s great that you enjoy just sitting down having a good coffee and visiting. Enjoy your parents while they’re still here, you will be so thankful for these memories one day. I truly wished I had sat down and recorded asking my mom and dad some thoughtful questions… not only to hear their answers but just to hear their voice again. Yes, please let us get to know your dad some too, would enjoy hearing you interview him a bit. Maybe one day we’ll meet the whole family. Thanks for taking us along for the ride!

There is much to say: 1. Scandinavia has a quality of life that can't be matched. Some of it comes from their love and connection to nature; 2. Scandinavians are the happiest in the world. Folks should investigate why. This video suggests several prominent reasons for this; 3. Scandinavians have a curiosity that is boundless. The Norwegians have the highest literacy rate in the world. That is, they read the largest amount of material, so they are very cosmopolitan. I taught high school in America, and one of my foreign exchange students from Norway lived on an island near Svalbard. He knew more about the US and the world than his American counterparts in class; 4. When I visited Scandinavia including Gothenburg, I never saw homeless and slums. The quality of life is the highest in the world. Folks should ask why.

Given all this, why would Cecilia's sister move to the US, which has none of this?

  • @thomascarey2941

@@randomness051 True. We don't know her motives for moving to America. Maybe romance. There was very little immigration to America from European countries since the 1950's. The Marshall Plan revitalized Europe. Here is an ironic counterexample: I taught two sisters and a brother whose parents were from Sweden. They moved to America in the 1950's. They left behind a son(brother) who became a cardiologist in Sweden. He was fed up making only $150,000 per year, whereas in The US he was offered $400,000 from some hospitals. He was sorely tempted to leave, but decided to stay in Sweden. I met a fourth grade teacher in Norway who was only paid $40,000 for teaching, but his education and health care plus other benefits were provided for him. He stayed. Check into the sovereign wealth fund in Norway.

Oh, this was just wonderful to watch, from start to finish! It was lovely listening to the Q and A with your mum too……you both have similar energy/ interests, I think! My two favourite videos so far is of your time with your parents in Portugal and now in Sweden. Thank you and your family for sharing your life with us through your videos and conversations! I do enjoy your videos of your life in Svalbard too, but these videos with your family are very special, I think! Congratulations to the newest addition to your family! ❤
