I just wanna say I had 0 soldering experience but I was able to do a perfect job installing a backlit screen it is much easier than I would have ever imagined

Me too. Watching Jake and Joe Bleeps really helped my balls grow lol, the soldering these more entry level projects require is seriously not bad, you just gotta be careful!

Cost saving may have been what motivated them, but I believe the official reason why they eliminated the power led from the first run of Game Boy Pockets was to spare the user from having a bright light aimed at their eyes during game play. Consumer response made it clear people wanted the light.

Out of curiosity, how long will a decent pair of AAA batteries last in a Gameboy pocket with one of these IPS screens fitted? I haven't used my standard GBP in years, but I do recall that battery life was dire if I didn't buy good quality batteries for it, and even then their lifespan wasn't impressive. Are there any off the shelf high capacity battery mods for the pocket? Like a case without a battery compartment and space inside for a hard wired Li-Pol cell and USB charging port, or a case designed to take some common model of flat Li-ion smart phone battery? There's a few name brand smartphone manufacturers out there that still make phones with slim 2500+ mAh user replaceable batteries, so I'd think a mod case designed to take one of these would be a no brainer, so maybe they're already out there and I haven't seen them?

I do still sell them! I’m just constantly out of stock😅 is it actually not displaying properly or does it just say a lot of stuff is out of stock? A few people have been saying this but I haven’t been able to recreate the problem on my end so I’m not sure :/

Dang, failed trying this today, so close I even had the screen connected and tested working. But when I tried to do the final assembly my craptastic solder joint to the power switch area came loose. In trying to re-solder it I'm pretty sure I did something bad to the power switch. Now when I connect batteries and turn on I get nothing, no chime, no screen, not even a flicker. Is it irretrievably dead, or would something like a power switch rebuild/replacement possibly save it?

Why do you solder to C for power and not 1? I feel like I’ve seen most people soldering power to 1.

Nice looking Game Boy! Just to note: ESD-safe does not mean non-conductive, so you likely shorted power and ground when poking around with the tweezers.

It's been a while I'm trying to understand how do you film only your hands and whatever you're modding from up without you head getting in the way. Plus we don't see any camera while you film yourself. How do you so this? You got a cameraman?

I have a c stand for the top down angle and my phone on a mini tripod on the table for the side angle

nintendo thought the led would be a distraction but they had so much backlash they put the led back

Does this kit come with the wire you soldered on? It’s not listed as included in the kit.

As cool as this is, I never really understood why anyone would want to do this on a GB Pocket or DMG... I really like the aesthetic of the 'dot matrix' display. Playing with that old display is one of it's more memorable characteristics, so I would rather just upgrade it to function more like a GB Light than putting in and IPS display, which would make more sense on a GB Color or Advance.
