You should've just told him.... less is more. You can have all the features in the world. Means nothing if the foundation to everything is dogsh*t. He should've focused on making a solid game with very little. Instead.... he crammed everything in the world into this "game" expecting it to all just magically work. (Which is not how designing works in any field) Would've been better criticism than just saying it's sh*t (which...... it by all standards is btw) He also spread himself so thin if it's JUST him. If it's his first ever project.... he has a lot of pieces..... but.... they all go to foreign puzzles. If he can just focus on individual aspects and take his time. Theoretically this project with LOADS of work can be fixed. Scrapping it and restarting probably would be best. I've seen better games in Dreams..... and people in there have had Dreams for only a few months to a year 😂

Lots of people feeling bad for the guy. Big fry doesnt sugar coat shit and he chose to send his game anyways. People want to jerkcoff these guys selling bad games for 20-40 bucks getting scammed or letting delusions go.

I almost feel bad for the dev, he's likely making the game as he learns how to make games in general. Like once he learns how to make animations, he makes one and than just leaves it in with no polish, he need's to hone his skills in some silly game that will never be released, and than try to make something bigger afterwards. It's shitty that he's charging 20 dollars for it however so i can't forgive him for his faults. Developer rooms in most games have more polish than this entire game does. Ok I take everything back, the fact that he compares this game to resident evil is so insulting to that entire genre, fuck this guy. (wasn't it meant to be a battle royal originally?)

It’s obvious the dev has put a lot of work into the game... that’s not to say it could use a LOT more. it’s clear by posting a conversation you had with the dev afterward you are looking for a reaction. That was a little harsh. I’m an Artist and I deal with young artist all the time. Honesty is important but so is direction. Yes this game is horrible and yes it needed lot of work but you don’t have to break his spirit. He does have talent. Just needs to stay at it and get better. Always enjoyed your videos before but that was sad at the end. No need in breaking someone’s spirit when they look up to you.

Was looking in the comments for posts like these. I don't see anything wrong in what the developer was doing or asking for. Sure, the game needs way more than just some polishing and the dev has a long way before he will be able to build what he hopes of achieving, but I don't think that gives a free pass at mocking somebody for views and growing one's channel while boasting how some devs just want free publicity. A few of the other attacks on the dev also don't make sense. The game will launch at 20 dollars? So what? Doesn't mean people are obliged to buy it or spend that money on it. Not getting sales would be a good indicator if people want his game or not, and hopefully build off of that. "The dev is comparing it to this game"... You're just putting words in his mouth and taking advantage of his nativity to boost your video. The guy is asking for feedback. In case you didn't get it, he was asking for constructive criticism, which you clearly had none of. Would of been best to just close the game as soon as you realized you don't like it instead of blatantly choosing to attack someone the way you did. But you didn't, because you wanted someone to be able to make fun of so you could create content. So don't try to play it off the way you did in your video because your actions clearly say otherwise. All in all, I think this was the poorest quality video I have seen on youtube...

He does think people will like this garbage. Check out his fb. He's totally serious. He does come from Botswana though, and really has no clue about what quality is. Well, except that he's cancelled the game for now because it's "not up to the quality he wants." He will supposedly continue development on the game when he has afforded to buy a new PC. I think he was swayed to make that decision by a _partcular_ comment on one of his fb posts about the game. He basically said his PC is too potato to even run the game he's trying to make. So someone suggested, very generously but somewhat patronizingly that he should crowd fund for a new PC.

Tbh I'd be proud of this if it was my solo hobby project and I can understand that he gets pissed off with people being honest considering the love he must have put in it

As an ex Indie Game dev... it's pretty crazy to know how many of these kind of projects are out there.. People in the dev community are pretty supportive towards each other, even when the project is a dead ended as this one.. I can imagine the sort of feedback he was expecting.. It wasn't what you gave.. but it sure as hell was what he needed to hear! :P

Proof that it's not only about the amount of time that goes into something. I hate when devs go "we been working on this game for 20 fucking years" or whatever. And then its shit. Like what were you doing with all that time.

This "dev" could learn something from the guy who made Interstellar Marines. Not saying that's the best game in the world,but it looks good and at least functions as it should. And for being made by just 1 person I think Interstellar Marines is/was pretty impressive.

Got a link? I’ll give it a go, seems like a younger dev trying to pack a little too much in one project. The dev is getting a lot of shit and life lessons here (which set themself up for sure) but to give credit where credit is due, it does look a hell of a lot better than it did.

Also, highschool and early college devs can absolutely put together assets in maps and characters, make minor adjustments, use premade code, add a few personal touches and make a basic fps map or two that looks better than this. Anyone can if they sit through a few tutorials and have the right programs. And that’s great!!!!! But it wouldnt take them 4 years to do it. And they wouldnt sell it for 20 bucks.

I'm also an indie developer and soon to be a big video games company developer. I can say it's harsh to be so critical to someone's work. Bigfry, I respect your channel and the content, but even if the game is bad ( as you said ), you didn't had to say "just deleted the project". Yes, the game is not in a playable state and from the game UI, animations, gunplay, shadows, FX and other you can tell this game is not even in an early, early, early, early access, but a dev version. As a developers we need feedback. Here is some real feedback you could give to this game and I really hope you can apply that in your future videos. By the way, what did you expect to get as a response when you tell some one to just delete the project? Example of a feedback for this project/game: First of all, the build you gave shouldn't get any public reviews. For reviews you should give a more polished build, both from an esthetical point of view and features point of view. You clearly focused too much on adding a lot of mechanics to your game (ex: weapon system, movement component, menu and game UI). My opinion is to reduce the amount of features and come with some core mechanics; think about an MVP. I can provide some questions that may help in finding this MVP: What is the inspiration for game ? Is it something personal, a story you've heard, a dream you had etc? What is the fun component of this game and why will people want to play this game ? Think about super mario: it's a platformer, character can jump and walk f/b, jump mechanic is also an attack mechanic ( jumping on enemies kill them ), movement has custom physics so the acceleration is more predictable. And as an example I'll give my suggestion on how I see the game looking forward: Menu: * redo the main menu UI. The idea behind it's not bad, but maybe it's too much. For starting I suggest something clean, a good UI inspiration is old halo games where the menu is simple and yet satisfies all the needs. * remove profile stats, loot crates and social media. Try to lunch the game as vanilla as possible, but consider adding then one by one in future updates. A changes log inside the game may be a good idea, but more like a pop-up. Gameplay: * nice feature to have the health displayed organically on the character, maybe try that on the weapons too. 😊 * gameplay UI is working and it's minimalistic, I like that * one thing I don't quite understand is why duplicate the health on the UI and the character. Try adding the armour health on the character with colours or something like that. Overall nice gameplay UI and mindset; can't understand why you can't translate this to main menu UI * shadows - bad. Seriously bad. As you can see from Bigfry review the most commented aspect of the game was this one. Maybe add some more lights or adjust the engine lighting system. One idea I have for your game is that the enemies are dark characters and your character is white, like it is now, but every time you get hit your character's colour goes darker. This goes well with story. What do you think? * animations - comme ci, comme ca ( not bad, not good ) Clearly you need to focus more time into the locomotion state machine. This is core feature in every game. Maybe pay somebody to do some animations for you, or you can do them yourself. It's not that hard, it just takes time to do. Add transitions and look on google for a locomotion system. f you are using unreal try the advanced locomotion system. * adjust pawn/character speed with the animations. Again core feature. * remove all the weapons except a pistol and a rifle. Go small for the beginning. If you don't have enough time for a complex weapon system you can add this later. For now add 2 weapons and work your way up * remove the options feature as it's not so important now. Add this later * help user find the controls and make sure the controls work. Consider a tutorial level when you explain everything. (I know, I know alot of work... but this work always, i repeat ALWAYS pays off✌🏽 * if the enemies are more visible you can remove the hit maker indicator and maybe add it later😁 * grenades, molotovs, smokes etc are not complete. You should make a system for them, something modular so you can add and modify them in the future. * make sure if the player walks on a trip mine he know that ( if you even have a trip mine cuz' personally I didn't see one or understood what happened) * implement a simplistic pause menu and like I said keep the weapon system to a minimum and build after the release the weapon system with attachments, bullet types etc. * remove the exp system and progession system. Just make it a linear game where the player goes from A to B and then the level ends, maybe some cutscene or story elements pops up and then another map is loaded * buy or make bullet sounds. It would be really great to have a soundtrack that is full of rage songs and the game is fast paced and simple ( like old DOOM) * advice for bullet sound diy is to get a tennis ball and record the sound it does when it hits a wall or something. It will not be that great, but it's something Overall, you still have a lot of work ahead and hopefully this helped you understand the state of the game and gave you an idea of what should be changed and what should stay. Good look!👌I`m waiting for the next "official" build of the game 🤪

I agree to you all. Also I think you will agree that giving them realistic feedback will discourage future games like this. It's all about expectations and the details. If all gamers would say I want that, that and that then all indie devs and even big devs will listen, maybe they won't release fails like this and take some mechanics we like and build on them.

This was definitely dudes first project. And I imagine self taught. I went to film school and our first couple years we all thought we were hot shit and the next David lynch or shit, till at the end of the year we screened all of our short films in front of the entire school. Each everyone of us humbled and sliding down in our chairs. Gotta get that ego busted and then realize everything you make isn’t good and most is shit till you learn by doing it over and over and can make something genuinely good. Who knows, if the dude keeps working on other things he could pump out something good down the line. Just needs practice, and to learn to take actual criticism. I imagine everyone he showed it to were friends that did the “dude it’s great,” and no real objective criticism. Criticism is there to help and the faster someone realizes that instead of taking personal and getting butthurt, the faster they can start to improve upon their craft.

As someone who's learning the art of game design, this hurts my soul. This looks like something a 12 year old that's high on acid, LSD, shrooms and god knows what else would make.

@Sam B-N I'm going through the course at Full Sail University for Game Design. I'm over a year into it. For the classes I've had so far, I've built a level in Unity and now we have started using Unreal Engine 4 where, using blueprints, we are coding and building out the systems for a 3rd person game. If what I'm understanding from what you said you're doing game development not focusing on game design. I know how complex all of it is, lord knows I've been confused and had to research stuff for hours to find a solution many times. The class in Unreal right now is about 60-40 for how much we're actually taught. 60% shown and 40% go figure it out yourself. I have a problem with this project from a design point of view. He says he's going for a Resident Evil type game, but he doesn't understand how to make that sort of game. From a story and feeling way of looking at it, there's nothing that creates any sort of tension in this. The lighting is atrocious, it doesn't lead you around the level as it should, it just blinds you or fully hides enemies making it a major fucking hindrance. Resident Evil uses lighting to draw your attention to possible areas you can go and important things, this project barely does that. Then there's the fact that his Ui is way too damn invasive. Every shooter does the indicator in that direction for damage. This project makes it take up the whole screen and if you're shooting back, you can barely see them with the placement of the bar/ arrow. Also, the animations and his triggers for them are just horrible. You can easily get better animations from a pack in the Unity or Unreal story. Hell, the Unreal ones are literally from free from Epic Games. Now I'm gonna ask you the real question. You talk about stolen assets, what do you actually consider stolen assets? The way that I see it is that if a smaller developer uses assets from a pack, but they don't just take a game straight from the marketplaces and just whole sell it on Steam or wherever, I don't care. I would rather see you spend more time on developing your systems, your story, and your levels than I would on you having to develop materials, textures, etc. Every pack of assets you get on the store comes with a disclaimer saying you can use them in your game. To finish this out, I don't respect this project. I say this for the main reason of in 4 years, even with just looking at tutorials on youtube, you could make something better and more polished than this. Even if you just spent 1 day a month doing it. I respect Anthem more than I respect this project, and I think that was one of the worst released games in all of the 2010s. I also respect bad developers, if they sound like they're going to learn from the experience but it doesn't sound like this guy will.

Is it just me or do i see potential? If someone that knows how to do a menu and proper polish comes to thid guy, they MAY do something worthwile. If they put a good story on it, it could be interesting.

If he improved his programming skills, and fixed the UI, it would actually be pretty fun.

His only option would be to completely start a new project, understand what he wants to do, understand why he wants to do it, understand how he's going to do it, take parts of the existing game that align with his vision and fix them up, test and fix, add more stuff that he didn't have before but changed, test and fix more, then finally polish, and test and fix even more.

Well, I was wrong, it is a real game. Personally, I hope he uses this game as a learning experience and makes something great next time. Edit: Ouch, I just tried it. I feel like he wanted the full shabang of 18+ ratings and such, but was inexperienced in actually building up a professional tier game. I mean, I like bad games, Zulu Response and Battleground 3 are guilty pleasures of mine, and I still play them to this day, but this one was unplayable.

As a game designer, I can tell you that I have made better in less time for class projects in my college. 4 years? Dude. Your game SHOULD look fuckin gorgeous.

I gotta say, it was an improvement over the trailer. The graphics and some of the designs were not so bad, just polish some of the sets and UI and it could start to look like a game. But when I saw the first one of this game, I was thinking it was gonna like an old school designed game, like a 90's era game. Yeah, that's not worth $20 bucks, and still has some more dev work and polishing to do. But it at least looked playable over the trailer, just needs another year or so to get things polished and looking decent and maybe it could be something interesting

Kudos to the dev for getting this to run somewhat well. If the dev were to just tighten up their idea, polish the game, adjust the story, and cut some of the unnecessary features than this could possibly become a somewhat decent game. What the dev could really use the most is a handler and a partner. Most creatives need some form of limiter to prevent them from bloating a project with unnecessary features and details (like this game) and they need a partner to help them test and polish.

He would need to hire so much help like concept artists, actual writers, 3d artists, sound designers, etc. That was totally exceed the budget of the developer if he even has any. You can't even sell this idea because it is so raw (in a bad way) and generic, a game like this would need a lot of funding and nobody would even fund it. It doesn't matter if we wait 10 years more for this project it wouldn't be done, polished, playable or enjoyable. You gotta know your limits even in the "indie" scene, this is too ambitious and everything that could go wrong with game development. Im sure the developer tried but he sounds delusional.

When you see a mess like this, it really just hammers home how important it is to get your primary gameplay loop in place before you try and add loot boxes - or literally anything else. Though the same could be said about anything EA publish.

I thought this was something that was pumped out in like a month or two... This is NOT a 4 year project. Even someone with literally ZERO experience with game development could both learn game development and develop a better product than this at the same time, in less that 4 years. Also, this is not the "indie scene". A lot of indie games are damn good. You can't just defend a broken prototype that was mashed together using free assets in 1 month by claiming that expectations are too high and that it isn't AAA. That isn't a valid excuse. Just because something is indie, doesn't mean it is automatically exempt from criticism, and the bar for standards should be significantly lowered. People still expect a good, functional product at the end of the day. It is even worse that this costs money. AT this point I'm convinced it's just a troll, or some sort of bitcoin mining scam.

It is actually a passion project with many years of development. Check out the dude's fb page. He's just a young, overly ambitious guy from Botswana trying to make a game on an engine that doesn't even run well on his potato PC. He's since announced that he's halting development on the game until he can afford to buy a new PC. At which point we can assume that he'd start to just add more crap and clutter into this already janky mess.

Where did you find this? I want to give it a go and see if they updated it on any level.

HELLO, 911? I'D LIKE TO REPORT A CRIME. I HAVE BEEN ASSAULTED BY THIS UI.

Once upon a time, I picked up level design for Half-Life and its mods as a hobby. My early works were about the equivalent of this, while I was still learning the worldcraft (I think, later renamed valve hammer editor) and goldsrc engine. I did not release a single level until I got to a point where I could make maps that looked at LEAST as good as the ones that shipped with Half-Life, Sven Co-op or Natural Selection (the latter two being my main focus). I was a pretty big part of a reasonably sized server community back then, and was lucky enough to have some willing lab rats to test balancing on, but I *never* released a map that was not already thoroughly tested in terms of lighting, details and overall aesthetics. My main issues were the layout and balancing, nothing I released was ever "final" until everyone playtesting it with me agreed it was in fact reasonably well balanced for what it was. There was more than one occasion where I released a map I thought would work, but wound up so completely one-sided that the entire server just voted off of it whenever it came up in rotation - In some cases, I had to completely redesign the layout of those maps. I also took extra care in ensuring there were no clipping issues present on complex map geometry. I constantly asked for advice and criticism, and even when I was blasted for my earliest works (which were just screenshots because I never released those awful things), I took it as a challenge to get better. I didn't try to deflect or shift the blame. What I made back then was trash and I'm the one that made it, other people were merely pointing out that fact. My levels wound up better for it and at least one map I made was purely out of spite for early criticism, and it was one of the best I ever did. A couple of key differences between us: The creator of this does not appear to take any pride in what they've made. They clearly have no desire to improve either themselves or their "game". They're unable to accept reality and try to deflect or explain the shortcomings of what they've created away. They blame others for being 'overly negative' or 'trolls' (While it's true I got trolled fairly often, particularly early on, it wasn't hard to ignore them and listen to actual feedback). Lastly, they've tried to put way too much into the game all at once (like a certain crowdfunded space sim I can think of) instead of focusing on the core elements and refining them, they stop at barely functional, call it good enough and move on.

Y'know, I like your negativity. It pulls out and exposes even the small details that others wouldn't notice or care about, so that's why I'd like to see you review a game of mine coming out in a year or so, maybe even more. Chances are, it's gonna be bad since I have no clue how to program or model, but what better way to learn than putting it in active practice. I'll probably shoot you an Email once it's in it's playable state, but for now the entire thing is a concept.

I mean, as a note: since I've started doing them, my views have gone up another 500K on top of what I was doing before, my subs are going up, and my revenue has gone up maybe $200 in the last 30 days? It's not about the money as much as it's about reaching new people and getting more eyes on the videos.
