In this video, I'm celebrating Naadam, Mongolia's biggest holiday, in Ulaanbaatar. Naadam has existed for centuries, and is sort of a celebration of all things Mongolian. The festival focuses on the so-called "Three Manly Sports" of wrestling, archery, and horse racing. There's also a spectacular opening ceremony to kick off the festivities. But there's so much more to Naadam than just the official events. Like airag, or fermented, alcoholic horse milk, which is super popular during Naadam. And yes, of course I had to give it a try.

We will take revenge on them one day for what they did in Baghdad and the assassination of Caliph Al-Mu'tasim Billah. They will pay the price. We Muslims are now preoccupied with our internal affairs. One day our problems will be over and we will settle our account with Mongolia. We will not forget and revenge is coming

I'm so impressed by those dancer girls' English. I expected basically no one in Mongolia except tourist guides and politicians to know English! But those girls spoke really well

Fun fact: Several Mongolian politicians can’t even speak proper Mongolian so the second language is uncommon. Most educated people keep their distance from politics and grind on their own.

I wish every country had a festival to celebrate their own culture. Then foreigners can visit and experience a condensed essence of each culture in a short time.
What an incredible event!! Amazing talent. If Mamba is seeing this post, thank you for taking care of my son when he had his allergic reaction!!

Idk but Mongolia fascinated me since childhood somehow, everytime i saw the name of the country, or see it in the map, i was really courious even i don't really knew much about it. But right now I am studying indonesian studies in university (czech) and I will start asking teachers about the mongolian language course, bcs I see my University offers it, but it wasn't open for few years, so I hope I will solve it and next year I will be studying mongolian language! And I need to visit naadem one day.

proud of our cultural and heritage that define who we are for ages....uraaaa

yeah shaimin arkhi is a dairy product clear liquid tasting like a weak vodka. mongolian regular vodka "arkhi" is like russian stoli, very good and very SMOOTH (and will "sneak up" on you as very easy to drink straight due to smoothness. ARIG (fermented horse milk) normally is not really alcoholic but acidic (some young males in usa might say the taste is like milk left in the fridge a bit too long. I assume Doug has also learned how to drink vodka "straight" (the vodka or arkhi in mongolian) mixes beautifully but this is really good vodka that is best consumed straight/

Another interesting and exciting thing about the opening ceremony is that it’s different every year. Obviously the general theme is the same, but the direction, the performances and the acts are all different.

Thanks, Doug! This video takes me to MoNgoLia🇲🇳
This 2023 naadam was the best naadam i have ever seen🎉.
nice video about Naadam, huushuur and airag. ;)
Let me explain: It is a summer festival of the Mongolian nation and a triathlon sports competition. This man competes with his 3 different powers. -Wrestling: Endurance, Strength, Tricks, Intelligence. -Archery: Sight, Marksmanship, Thumb Grip. -Horse Racing: How the horse is prepared. Wrestling: A total of 1024 wrestlers compete. Regardless of the wrestling desert, it is randomly assigned. Starting from the 5th generation, the desert begins to be granted. The title changes depending on the total number of times won in the country. Horse racing: The race distance differs from the age of the horse and is divided into 7 ages. The horse will start from the finish line and reach the ground about 27 km. The first 5 horses that arrive at the finish line are captured and awarded the main prize, and the other horses are captured in the order of arrival to determine the place -In fact, Mongolian children learn to ride horses from the age of 1, and from the age of 3 they learn to ride speed horses. -Fun fact, In the "Daagan" /means name of age/ competition, the last "Daagan" is captured and given the same prize as the winning "Daagan" named "Rich Stomach". Archery: The festival takes place on July 10th, 11th, and 12th. The first day is 16 arrows, the second day is 12 arrows, the third day is 12 arrows, and the total score is 40 arrows. Range: From 75 meters for men, 65 meters for women. Rule: Depending on the generation, the distance of the shot is increased. Titled archers start shooting at long range. Each title is different depending on how many games you win. -In fact, Chinggis' stone inscription records that Yesunge, son of Khasar, shot 500 yards.
Doug, thank you! Bayarlalaa!
Thank you so much for coming to naadam! I actually live right next to the stadium hah!, My dad is a horse owner and its just so great seeing people from other countries take interest in our culture and recognize us outside of our empire, thank you!!! -from some mongolian
