This is the Smartest car I've ever reviewed!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This is the all-new Smart #1!
When you think of Smart cars, chances are you remember tiny cars like the ForTwo or ForFour. However, the #1 is clearly much bigger than these, and now sits as a competitor to the likes of the Megane E-Tech and Kia Niro EV!
So let’s see how this all-new Smart stacks up. Starting with the design, it looks pretty impressive on the outside. There are full-length light bars at both the front and rear, and the back of the car is giving us serious Mercedes EQB vibes! Along the side, you’ll see a set of smart-looking 19-inch alloy wheels, as well as flush door handles to help with aerodynamics. It also comes with a two-tone paint job, which is a nice touch.
Step inside and the good looks continue! The #1 comes with a minimalist design, with nearly all controls running through the central infotainment screen. That’s a bit annoying when you come to control things while driving, but thankfully it comes with voice controls and the screen is pretty easy to use. The cabin is largely covered in soft-touch materials, and the build quality is pretty good. Unfortunately, though the digital driver's display is a bit small, if you pick the Premium trim, you’ll be treated to a heads-up display as well.
There are two trims to choose from - the entry-level Pro+ or the Premium. Both come with a single electric motor that can produce 272hp. Both cars come with a 62kWh battery pack, but while the Pro+ can run for a range of up to 260 miles, the Premium can run up to 273 miles.
The starting price of the Smart #1 is around £36,000. So is it worth it? You’ll need to stick with Mat to see for yourself!

    Totally agree. However with the rear seats slided all the way back which makes passengers comfortable, the boot depth from the back of the rear seats to the door is not enough to fit in a folded wheelchair, while ID.3 has no problem.

    Some add-ups from a Chinese customer: 1) This car is based on the SEA platform which shared by Smart #1, #3, Geek X, and Volvo EX30, etc. So it’s more Volvo than Mercedes mechanically. Mercedes is only responsible for the visual design. 2)In fact we also call it “number 1” in China because there’s no convenient way to pronounce hashtag in Chinese 😂

    gear selector located on the steering column is very nice to have (reminds me about full size sedans from the US in the nineties that could house six people and so they moved out that stick from the center console to make room for a third passenger in the front row.) but what I don't appreciate is the fact that they confused drive with reverse and put it on there the wrong way round, lol.

  • @nickm5978

    @nickm5978

    That is actually dangerous and why I would avoid this car. If you accidentally hit the gear selector on the steering column when driving the car can break down and cause an accident in the middle of the road

  • @HxTurtle

    @HxTurtle

    7 ай бұрын

    @@nickm5978 that isn't true at all for both the modern incarnation as well as the traditional style (why would someone design something that's potentially dangerous in the first place?) while I don't know exactly about this car, it's obvious that it's a fully electronically operated selector and the computer wouldn't allow anything that could damage the car. and chances are very high that it's still double secured by the user being required to press and hold an additional "unlock" button like it's the case with every other automatic "gear" selector as well. now for the "traditional" variant: it wasn't possible to change anything like it's possible with a conventional wiper stalk, or something. you needed to reach around behind the level, pull it towards you (with built-in resistance) and only then it was possible to move it up or down to change the driving mode. so, simply hitting it (it's reclined much [!] further back than the stalks you're actually supposed to reach and operate from the steering wheel) won't do or cause anything.

  • @HxTurtle

    @HxTurtle

    @@nickm5978 it wouldn't move in the first place because you most likely need to depress some other button on the outward face as well to unlock the "move"-function first. (making you need the entire hand and not just the flick of a finger.) it's physically so far reclined that it's difficult (if not impossible) to actually reach from the steering wheel (it's not intended to be operated while also grabbing the steering wheel.) and lastly: even if you'd still forcefully try to do this, the computer wouldn't accept this input. I can precisely tell you from my own experience with one of my classic cars with no fancy computer control at all what happens when you forcefully select reverse while driving: the engine gets overwhelmed and stalls. that's about it. nothing more. the car then glides along (remember, you got a torque converter sitting between the engine and the gear box [instead of a clutch.] this means, that there's no stiff physical connection [okay, you've a locking function nowadays on modern cars, but let's not complete things too much] between the engine and the wheels. so, when the wheels cause the gearbox to spin against the crankshaft, then this is actually possible due to the fluid inside the torque converter.)
