Hopefully his new boat will treat him better. The Saga seemed to have almost never ending issues, probably due to its past captains and owners lack of care. Jake did his damn best to get the Saga running properly.

Was told years ago to never go in partners with anybody. Know people that went in two,there & a five person partnership on apartment houses, contracting business and a cigarette boat. All had to spend money on lawyers when one partner got into money problems,divorced or wanted to do thier own thing.

Always have to be careful with any kind of partnership. My brother was a partner in a small law firm started by the older attorney he was working for.. after a couple years of health problems the other guy passed on and unbeknownst to my brother he had borrowed large amounts of money against the firm in the last couple years of his life and my brother was on the hook for it.

Just sucks that Jake lost the boat, the thing was practically his baby I mean he completely revamped the Saga and now this.. Just a shame that some people don't think before doing dumb shit and other people have to pay for it. Lenny can gth

In some counties when either partner has tax issues and the other one is clean, any jointly owned properties are exempt from seizure, they go after the personal assets of the troubled individual. Leave it up to the IRS to fu¢|< up someone else’s life……..

I worked an Opilio season on the Saga 1996, before it was a famous vessel.

Since cancelling crab seasons, this was bound to happen.

That wasn't the issue. Jake took her to Europe and made bank. Jake's partner and majority owner has tax fraud issues. The Saga was seized and put up for sale. Jake lost everything he put into saga.

After the work Jake had sunk into the Saga, I’m sure he’s pished right off, I know I would be. Still being a hired 🔫 he doesn’t have to worry about the bills so much as with the Saga. But I recon he’s gutted, he’d just got her just how he wanted her. Someone’s gotta bargain at $1.8 mil, that’s less that third the price of a new hull kitted out as she is. Todd Heiner owned the boat and back 20 years ago he would probably never sell it. Then the IFQs came into play in 2006, so a lot of guys sold their Q's and got out.

A boat hold is volume, not weight carrying ability. A hold filled with feathers weighs less than if it were filled with lead. Salmon are more dense than crab therefore the hold can pack more salmon weight than crab weight.

It sounds like the Saga was never Jake’s boat, to begin with,nor was he ever a co-owner of the vessel. If he was,I’m sure he would’ve been able to come up with deal with the I.R.S to pay off the 1.8 million lien and assume ownership.

I have a 200 ton license I might be under tonnage to run the Saga, but I've driven the boat. When I worked on the Saga most Captains didn't need a Master license back then.

I have to say as US citizen watching these fishing shows in Alaska for years now that it proved one thing that pretty much A large percentage of the men working on these boats are of extremely questionable character in relationship to sexual criminals and bank robbers just to name a few. I think the only other group of discovery superstars that could outdo these lowlifes would be the alligator hunters on whatever freaking show that is in Louisiana.

California has shut down its commercial and sport salmon seasons for the last 2 years, king and Ophelia crab stocks have diminished, The ocean is dying. I live in Monterey California and am a retired commercial fisherman , The ocean is polluted and the industry is dying. Many boats are for sale….
