I made a sensor panel after one of your first videos and it’s a sweet addition. My only gripe with them is that i couldn’t find a way to “ignore” it as another “monitor”. You may have windows appear there, or your mouse wind up there etc.

It's not entirely hard to change your "Main display." As long as both your displays are in the same plane (horizontal or vertical) you can just swipe your mouse to the side and open the Display Settings on your main monitor. It should stay that way, as there is no reason it'll change suddenly without user input.

I have one of these and it works great for me. Simple-ish customizations possible after a little digging on how it works however it just works out of the box with its pre-built screens. Cost less for me in Australia (AU$38.50). Software is a little odd but when you get used to it it works fine. Yes, don't like the Admin access need. But hey, it all works fine for me. At $40, I really don't think this is a rip-off. Sure, you CAN theoretically DIY yourself a sensor panel but you can easily spend more that $40 on just the Pi screen before you've bought Aida 64, a 3D printer and CAD software. And then you've got to learn how to use the CAD software and the printer. This product removes all those barriers to entry. For someone who doesn't have all that, this product seems like a solid idea. Sure, there are improvements that could be made; larger screen, sorting out the website for downloads, getting the software certified by Microsoft and improving the refresh rate of the gauges on the display - but as a first generation product, I'd say it has gone better than ARC. Additionally, if, like me, you're running a triple monitor setup, have a VR headset and don't have an iGPU then the fact this display connects via USB rather than HDMI is also very attractive. The product works exactly as expected, it's neat and well made. I really don't think it deserves to be slammed the way you did. On top of that, imagine how much it'd cost if a company like ASUS ROG or RAZER made this? Probably closer to $400 than $40. I've just found the same one on Amazon UK for £33 that comes with a dock as well as the kickstand so I reckon I'm going to get one. If it's too small to read with it inside my case, I'll set it on my desk just behind my keyboard, similar to how the Corsair NEXUS companion is intended to be used, and use velcro ties to hold the display and keyboard cables together. In short, I respectfully disagree with your opinion on the product but I thank you for bringing it to my attention because now I can buy one. Edit: Upon doing further research myself, I've found the company's website and forum. As it turns out, they also make a 5 and 7 inch model. Edit Edit: Programmer friend of mine is looking into the software side of it out of sheer curiosity. The code is written in Python and is open source, includes a "Simulated LCD" mode so you can develop your own GUIs and also includes tools to allow you to write your own code to interact with the screen, rather than using it as a hardware monitor. Edit Edit Edit: The python version of the software is an unofficial community project

One of the most overlooked things when it comes to sensor panels is that you can use an old smartphone you have laying around as a screen for literally free. The only thing you have to work around is phones usually have way higher resolutions than your typical raspberry pi screen so finding a pre-made template that is the correct resolution can be tricky unless you have the patience to make your own.

I must say - I love it! I initially bought it to sit in my PC. However, it’s so handy to look at everything at a glance I just kept it as part of my PC building and maintenance kit. I keep it’s files on USB and just plug the screen in to a new system on the fly before stress testing. I know this isn’t the best way to do things. However, I’m just an ordinary guy, not a professional. I maintain my own computer and several others for friends and family. This little screen has been great. The 'admin access' request might be unavoidable for this sort of solution - Windows by default won't allow use of the sort of low-level access to sensors, etc probably needed for this to give a proper sensor readout. Common system tools for checking sensor info like HWInfo and HWMonitor both also require 'admin access' to properly access that level of granular detail.

I just bought the 5in screen in white from these same people. The each size of screen has it's own unique software, and the 5in one works just fine and is more fine-tune than what Jay showed here. You can also do your own themes. I haven't tried to do that yet, as I've not built the pc it's intended for, and I only plugged it into an old laptop to test it, but I believe you can make your own backgrounds to then apply guagues or numbers or whatever for the readouts you want. It's very simple stuff, not as in-depth as the aida64/raspberry pi screen versions Jay likes and peddles, but this works just fine for what I want to do. SHOW ME MY CPU TEMPS. And it can do that just fine.

I'm interested in setting up a Raspberry Pi sensor panel, and love what you can do with AIDA64. My problem is licensing for it. $60 for one year, and needing to renew, feels really odd if all I'm using the software for is setting up a sensor panel. Any suggestions on free or relatively inexpensive software (sure, it too can be $60, but I don't want to have to renew it) that would do the same or similar as AIDA64? The software is the only reason why I haven't committed to it yet, because there's nothing else I'd do with a 7" screen. Detailing some of those other software options (if they exist) might help some of us enthusiasts on a budget.

Yeah I agree. Buying AIDA64 is not a one time purchase, you gotta renew it every year at $60 a pop. Forget that. Comparing screen size costs to what it'll cost to maintain a subscription to AIDA64 seems trivial. JayTwoCents seems to gloss over this fact, not only in this video, but the one they made a couple of years ago as well. Who cares if a screen costs $20 more if the software to set up your sensor panel will costs $60/year!!! I'm surprised at this stage, some company has not come out with a universal sensor panel anyone can just plug in or something that's pre-built into the pc case.

Then you can just replace the background from 0-5V to 0-100C on the voltmeter and you got yourself an oldschool-looking sensor-screen. Absolutely no idea how to do it in programming tho, but methinks it should not be too hard to pull-off!

True story I added this to my cart like four days ago and then read the only reviews available and immediately removed it from my cart. So crazy that you are now reviewing it. The world needs more Jays. Thank you. They have some at look identical but are $100 more and I want to assume they are trash as well because there are no reviews.

I've got it, it's good for what it is, fyi you can get it for even cheaper on ebay, you can make your own backgrounds and it is totally seprate to your system screen which is either good ro bad depending on what you want.

@@danochez1 I'm nto 100% sure what you're saying but no it doesn't run aida64, I actually think this is a good thing and no need to run a power cable and hdmi this runs everything through the usb c cable. I honestly like this product enough to want to pay more, I would buy it again and I actually hope they eventually release a version 2 at some point but I am still very happy with what I have got because the price is so cheap.

@@theclassicliberal1915 I keep it in my NZXT case and made an NZXT background for it. Which reminds me of another slight drawback the usb c connection isnin a spot that doesn't let it sit fully flush in the case but again even with that I'd still buy it again. Having that readout there is just too handy.

Jay is there any hardware monitoring software that rather than just outputting to a display, instead outputs as a local web page? This would mean you wouldn't need to buy a dedicated screen just to output hardware stats, you could use anything that's got a web browser, so a phone, a tablet, laptop or whatever. Most people have probably got a old phone or tablet sitting in a drawer somewhere

I have a 7 inch ips panel i used with a raspberry pi project for a while. it has a whopping 1366x768. I'd buy more if I could find it again. I've been tempted to use this in the past for the same thing. One question though, when using a hdmi out on my gpu or motherboard, will it Interfere with games? I tried using it as a VFR map for microsoft flight simulator, but it messed up Shadowplay.

I'm a fan of you Jay, but please get your shit straight BEFORE starting the video. I get the software is pretty shit but the screen in itself is (as far as i can see) pretty good, imo calling this product garbage and advising against buying it is too harsh, don't let false assumptions dictate your review of the device.

I find it funny that Jay's big complaint seems to be the screen size. They say it's a 3.5" screen in the listing, but I'd be super frustrated if I bought it because of the administrator rights. Some brave and/or foolish souls may be okay with that, that's the worst part of this product in my mind.

I followed and love your original guide and i use one. I found with the sensor panel active that i get occasional micro pauses with "some" games, that disappear when the sensor is off. But utilizing the G1-G2 keys on my logitech keyboard, i was able to program them to switch off/on AIDA64 at will, and with the remaining G3-G5 keys, i programmed them to switch on/change/off Wallpaper engine so i can have animated wallpapers running when i find no need to see sensor panel stuff (like when watching your awesome channel). Thanks for opening that door for me.

I ordered one of those on Ebay for $20. I knew it was only 3.5". I'll make sure I create a restore point before installing the software. Still I'm going to try to get it to work. I think if I really wanted a larger screen I'd go for a 15.6" touch screen that connects via a USB-C.
