    Quick tip nobody asked for: If you're booting linux and it's stuck on the logo, you normally can press ESC to see the terminal output to see at what step it stopped booting up. That way you can diagnose what's wrong with it. It's hilarious to me how linus manages to break linux without doing anything, although I have high suspicions that Eurorra fked with this. No way does a handcrafted, 80+ quality assurance steps laptop for $5000 have such blatant issues. The fact that Ubuntu errors basically from the boot up makes me strongly believe so. I believe the "custom" ubuntu simply means "we fked with things" ubuntu. It's hilarious though and seeing linus lose his mind over linux and breaks it whenever he touches it (or not heh) is just great.

    @Clay Gomera you are exactly the type of person that makes everyone hate linux and are a detriment to it's wider acceptence. The line: "But you have to keep in mind that using the terminal in Linux is NOT necessary in any way. Almost everything that you can do in a terminal, is possible in a GUI in some way." is COMPLETE horse s&*t and anyone that has used linux for more than 2 minutes on a new install knows it.

    @Clay Gomera I'm a well experience Linux user myself. For casual everyday tasks i agree, the terminal is not needed whatsoever. But when it comes to gaming or getting something professionally up, running, and done, the terminal may end up become a necessity out of various consequences and points of failure. And to an end-user who does not have the care and/or time to figure that out when things can just work on Windows or Mac, there is a clear solution: use Windows or Mac, especially when time is money for major companies to the self-employed. That is why Linux has not (yet) become mainstream, although major improvements are being made everywhere to get to that point one day, and I feel that day is coming soon.

  • @xxMastufaquxx

    @xxMastufaquxx

    @Clay Gomera yeah maybe becoming mainstream is a stretch but i do feel its becoming easier to use every day without the need for terminal use or configuring files, despite fragmentation. Many distro devs are working super hard to tightly integrate everything while keeping it cross compatible and modular. Also true on the gaming part, its relatively easy to install and run games but thats assuming everything else like drivers are set up and youre not unlucky. I have a Steam Deck and there’s honestly no issues getting non-steam games added and running with Heroic and Lutris (i just wish Amazon games had a launcher.)The distro you pick can heavily determine your quality of life too but sometimes you wont know which one that is until you’ve hopped several times.

    14:00 segment: I've had this sort of issues with laptop GPUs all the time (except back in the Core2Duo switchable GPU of the Lenovo T400 with ATI), The reason is because a lot of laptop manufacturers don't actually use a true switchable GPU solution, that is, the dGPU is essentially like plugging a GPU into the PCIe slot then plugging the monitor into the motherboard VGA and expecting a performance boost, because that's exactly what that is. Games were later designed for this "GPU as a mere co-processor" configuration and games old enough cough up blood at these configurations that is modern laptops' "dGPU". Usually the games need the driver to report dGPU support to use the dGPU as a co-processor dangling off the side of the PCIe headlessly. So full GPUs don't get reported as supported and thus doing laptop-style dGPU on a desktop, whilst possible with the correct programming, doesn't happen (seemingly intentional). It would be easier if some laptop manufacturer somewhere actually used a DisplayPort multiplexer and literally switched from CPU iGPU DisplayPort to dGPU DisplayPort... To get around eDP not wanting to work with normal DP, using a basic 1-to-1 monitor chipset with all features stripped out so to leave the pixel data untouched would be simple enough to implement.... This would make for the ultimate laptop that would have 100% desktop performance given decent cooling. How I know this stuff? I looked at enough schematics, went back and forth to CEX trying to find a true switchable graphics laptop (so I can use the "return in 14 days" to test every laptop and get my money back... because I'm cheap like that.)

They explain they listened to community feedback that wanted it to ship with Linux so they "built their own" Linux build stating the community didn't mention what type of Linux they wanted. Actually no. Cycles are easy. We manufacture airplanes and Satelites. Laptops are for our plasure. The issue is that on a bicycle you have a distance betweene one joint to another and the material is easier to deal with. In a laptop design it depends on the user design and this means the extrrusion is not simple to deal with. This means much more hours working on the mold and hand putting the carbon fibr inside so itdoesnt generate air pockets or puts material on one side too thick on the other too thin.

Nvidia is to blame for screwing up. If they made their drivers open source they wouldn't even need to work on them, the community would just fork these drivers and improve them. Yeah, honestly, as much as it pains me to say, there are cases when Linux is a bitch to set up. And it's on nvidia GPU's. Which is of course mostly the fault of nvidia themselves, but a casual user won't giva shit, it doesn't work but it does on Windows, so the blame goes on Linux. It's better to run AMD GPU's if you plan to use Linux. In comparison to what we saw in the video, running a Radeon is a pretty smooth experience and these days they are really not worse than nvidia honestly. At least not for gaming which is the most common use scenario.

Then I thought well the whole chassis could represent some issues when you're doing custom work and not mass production. Then I realize 250 hours for the screen lip only.... alright. Probably way too many hands in the line of process for it to amass to 250 hours.... I could see 40 hours to get the molding right for the lip and then another 20-30 for making sure the finish product is nice and smooth. But 250 for just a computer screen lid is insane.

Don't get me wrong, I fully understand and support the "lets make a carbon fiber laptop lid because it looks siiiiick" and totally get sourcing them from a company like Clevo makes tons of sense if you just want to mod them and sell them, I just dislike the seemingly big exaggerations like 250 hours and the "we dont think people want mass produced laptops" while selling people a laptop that is, aside from a custom lid, seemingly mass produced.
