I think people like this as the game of the year because it reminds them of their own games. Definitely saw some things here that you don't often see out of 2,000+ rated players in classical chess.

Good post. Pragg “won” a draw to eventually win a match in a recent tournament where he called the arbiter over and got the 3 fold repetition rule invoked because it was a repetition of the position, even though move order was different.

@@LukeLongboneOfficial that’s a different subject that his comment which was on Games played and that I guess are logged wherever between GMs in important games where the position has never been reached because now a player has introduced a move that was never played in any previous games

Intense Game a lot of touchy situations Black gave it his best shots early but White was able to get his king to safety and apply his own offensive pressure once he won Blacks Queen I’m sure he felt game was in the bag tough positions in this game Thanks for the Game Enjoy your day

#suggestion: This game can be called "Gem of March 2024: Tale of the fit king and the fat bishop" (signifying how active the white king was throughout the game while white's dark square bishop almost never moved until the later part of the game even when it had plenty of opportunities to move before).

Does there any possibility for white to win the rook from the last position where white move queen instead of giving check and harras the black king? Just want to know and learn something

Basically being up a Queen against a Rook there’s a large advantage as Antonio showed you can keep checking the king with your Queen and find an angle at some point where you fork the king and Rook and become able to capture the Rook it’s why Black resigned for most part

Kf2 and h4 in the opening were moves that my young self would probably play 😂 But now, I don't think I'd even play this kind of openings 😅 Funny enough I think I played much accurately when I was younger compared to now after I've learnt some real openings lol

What a magnificent battle! Thank you. With billions of such rich and complex positions still on offer in "classic" chess, at the highest levels after a handful of opening moves, it strikes me as the height of human arrogance for anyone to claim that chess960 is somehow "better".

“Perennial Games” could be a good name for a collection of games you feel are formidable but not exactly legendary. It’s not the greatest game of the year but it is certainly nothing less than sublime - a game that portrays chess at its finest and is indeed a timeless and enjoyable match featuring perennial play.

Although it was momentarily interesting to see when we go from "never before played in a tournament" to "never played," I'd say there's no need to concern yourself with the distinction in the future :P Great game! Thanks as always

Regarding the "we have a completely new game" I wanted to share a couple of doubts : if you present an old game , for example in the year1950, the new game upon reaching a position is for that year ? but what happens to the same position years after that game is played ? Also , if you reach a new position but in 1 or 2 more moves the game goes back to known territory , is that an option to mention in the videos ? Best regards, Sergio

Yes the lower rated players might find a really good theorerical novelty but they might not know it. Some of my best games were theoretical novelties that I very soon afterwards realized were not Good Theorerical Novelties. Well, once I copied an explanation of a Korchnoi miniature game to the letter but that does not count.
