The past few days in Antananarivo, Madagascar have been overwhelming, intense and eye-opening. And I apologize for the delays in posting these videos -- it's been nearly impossible to find decent enough wifi.
Madagascar, as a whole, is a beautiful tropical island with stunning greenery, giant baobab trees and unique wildlife (like lemurs!). It's also massive -- about twice the size of my home state of Arizona -- floating 250 miles off the southeastern part of mainland Africa.
But putting the natural beauty aside, Madagascar is one of the World's poorest countries, with the 5th lowest GDP per capita. Walking on the streets of Antananarivo, I couldn't help but observe and analyze what I was seeing --- people just barely managing to survive, working labor-intensive jobs with very little pay.
My new local friends and I took a mini road trip to some outer villages, where I learned about the daily life of people working in the markets. Here's what I discovered.
If there's any takeaway from today (and through travel in general) -- it is to appreciate the life I live. If you are reading this as well, consider yourself lucky because you have internet, which most of the people in Madagascar cannot afford.

@@gayvideos3808 Nope, being ashamed is justified. When the most of Africa, many countries of South America, and other places teem with people who earn less than 2$ a day and often go starving.... When refugees around the world have no place to call home.... When Middle East is being torn in wars.... When insensitivity and communal violence destroys the lives of millions.... When social prejudices, bigotry and racism show the ugly side of humanity... And above all, global warming and climate change looms overhead threatening the very existence of numerous island countries, lowlands and glaciers around the world.... Then it is indeed insensitive and irresponsible (At least, a rational mind will tell so) to ponder too much over petty relationships or to complain about not being entitled to luxuries and assume that one is the most unfortunate person in the world. This only exhibits the acute deficiency of empathy and the cult of ignorance that one is a part of.

I live here in Madagascar and I think you really made a good analysis on the causes poverty of Madagascar. The kinda isolation from the rest of the world and also all the political issues (In short, politicians here really dont' care about the people, it's more about them wanting to increase their personnal wealth without even trying to manage the country properly, and 'I'm not even exagerating, it's really like that, corruption is everywhere.). The meteoroligical condition is not really the problem here because if it's managed properly, we should be able to prevent its damage because we kinda know where are the area that are frequently touched. But sadly, again, the gorvernment doesn't really give a damn about that. I do hope though, that my country will one day be able to be successful because it's full of talents and incredible natural ressources. If us, the young generation start to do small change in the good way, i think we can hope for a better future

Thx Drew, only people like yourself who travelled to the poor parts would understand and respected the better life we had. I myself was ex refugee now living much better life in Australia. Some of my Work colleagues here never knew what’s hard life were like... Earning 100 -200 times more than these poor people but still moan and groan whinging non stop then as soon as the job ended they were flat broke in 2 weeks time, very sad. I kept telling them my poor hard life stories to revive them... but for some they just couldn’t get it?

Last visit I spent around around 150 $ for my 13 days travelling not only in Bhutan and also in Sikim, Odisha, and West Bengal in India. That time I didn't have video camera for shooting awesome moments. But now I have a little camera. am planning to visit Malaysia coming march by 125 USD. Am already booked tickets .. jist apply offer and get return tickets around 55 USD. I wish to see u one day at any corner of this Planet. Thanks for ur valuable and Inspiring videos.. Now am in 26.... I am waiting for your Valuable reply......

Hi, Drew. I appreciate your video and showing the poverty in Mada. But I'd have liked that you did mention both the sides. While the majority of the population is impoverished, a very good number is well- educated, earns really well and has lived in France or has immediate family there. This side of the population shops in expensive malls even for their daily groceries which is imported from other African countries, France, etc. To mention rent in the capital city is also extortionate. The developed portions are of international standard, built mostly to suit the American and European lifestyle. That's also because plenty of Europeans move there for the better jobs that go to them over the locals. A lot of the poverty and misery is of course from corrupt politics. Can say all this with my experience of living in Mada for a better part of the year. Love, from India

How about you make charity for people from Madagascar. We can buy a stupid thing on internet for 5$ but they can feed their whole family with 3$.Can you make this possible, because every dollar is precious for them Edit: Money can go for any kind of improvements and for new equipment (at least make their work easier)

That isn't gonna help them. They have to learn how to improve their production. Simply lending them money will increase inflation & drive up the prices. Since they don't earn that much they'll be dependent on your charity and once it stops they literally will not be afford to anything and everything will be back to square 1 If you really wanna help them then tell your Governernment to do trade with them. Tell your businessmen to invest money into production factories there, tell your industrialists to set up factories there.

  • @AmarHDLetsPlayGaming

Well that money can help them to buy new equipment n stuff. He won't lend them 100 million $ but any help would be probably appreciated.Governernment does not care about their own people that much, so why would they care 1% about other countries? They have no profit from it and this is capitalism...Also someone would set up factories years ago in Madagascar but something isn't working out so.And that's def. gonna help them. They can upgrade a lot of stuff there and can build hella of objects or something.

Countries that have a british council that's usually the best place to start in my opinion. If there is no british council then any other english language school or a university as last resort. Luckily I speak German too and found it's nearly impossible to find a country that lacks both a British Council and Goethe Institut. For example Madagascar has no British Council, but it has a Goethe Institut.
