» THE MALAGASY STREET FOOD
1. SELESY: Mofo Akondro (Fried Bananas) + Mofo Anana (Fried Vegetable)
ADDRESS: Antananarivo
OPEN: Varies
🍌We began our street food journey with a stop at one of Antananarivo’s popular fried banana and fried vegetable stalls. Two popular snacks for Malagasy people are fried bananas, which are sliced and then dipped into a rice and wheat flour batter before being fried; and fried green onion, mixed with the same batter, fried and then eaten with a side of chili vinegar sauce.
💸PRICE: .13 USD/500 MGA per piece
----
2. STREET FOOD STALL: Coconut Sweet
ADDRESS: Antananarivo
OPEN: Varies
🥥PINK COCONUT SWEET: Shaved coconut and sugar are mixed together, then pink food coloring is added to attract people to buy this sweet treat.
💸PRICE: .08 USD/280 MGA
----
3. MALAGASY CAFETERIA: Zebu Sausage + Chicken + Baked Beans + Rice
ADDRESS: Antananarivo
OPEN: Lunch + Dinner
🍛This open-air cafeteria is a common lunch stop for people in Madagascar. Lunch generally consists of rice, beans, zebu sausage or chicken and a side vegetable. I let Joel enjoy all of the veggies.
💸PRICE: 1.42 USD/5,000 MGA
----
4. SOPERO MILOMBOKO: Grilled Zebu Pako-Pako
ADDRESS: Antananarivo
🥙Grilled zebu is a type of cattle originating in East Africa. The zebu meat is mixed with garlic and ginger before being grilled.
Pako-Pako is a unique Malagasy flatbread only served with the grilled zebu meat. Rice flour is mixed with coconut milk and oil, then kneaded and portioned into perfectly sized balls. The dough is flattened and fried in oil to perfection.
Fresh pickled vegetable salad typically accompanies this traditional meal.
💸PRICE: .28 USD/1,000 MGA
----
5. STREET VENDOR: Mofo Gasy (Malagasy Bread)
ADDRESS: Antananarivo
Rice flour batter is rolled into a ball and fried in oil before being topped off with salt. This Little round fried bread tastes a bit like a salty donut and makes for the perfect afternoon snack.
💸PRICE: .02 USD/70 MGA per piece
----
6. STREET FOOD STALL: Zebu Mouth Salad + Chicken Legs
🐮ZEBU MOUTH SALAD: Green peppers, onion, vinegar, zebu mouth and lime.
🍗A common meal in Madagascar consists of a chicken stock soup with noodles and fried chicken legs.
💸PRICE: .28 USD/1,000 MGA per chicken leg

🥒ABOUT BEFRS:
Hey, I’m Sonny! I’m from the US but currently call Vietnam home. I’ve been living in Asia for 10 years and started making food and travel videos to document my experiences. People either enjoyed my undeniable charm or enjoyed watching me eat things like coconut worms, and thus Best Ever Food Review Show came to be.
I travel to different parts of the world, hunting down and documenting the most unique food each country has to offer. If you see any factual food errors in my videos, please feel free to politely let me know in the comments. I'm a huge fan of trying different, interesting foods in each country. My show is from a Western point of view, but more importantly, MY point of view. It is not meant to offend any person or culture.
Don’t forget to subscribe to Best Ever Food Review Show, so we can connect through food and travel and become Bestys!

Oh man. It's more than $1,000 to go to Madagascar from Manila. I wanna go travel to Madagascar (anywhere really!). Sonny is such a good tourist. He doesn't try to question the culture nor try to explain it. He just absorbs it all in and takes in the experience all the while being open-minded and respecting their culture. True, but that 80 cents may be very difficult to earn. For instance in Nigeria, 1 dollar is about 380 naira here and so many people earn so little... A person May earn 15, 000 naira per month. So 380 naira to them would seem much while to you... It's just a dollar. So it def depends on the country.

Madagascar food is very similar to my hometown the Philippines. The sweet coconut candy we called it BUKAYO (brownish color using brown sugar) originated from Lingayen, Pangasinan. Their sausage we called it longaniza are made from various provinces w/c has its own distinctive taste and flavor. Veggie salad is called archara and so forth.

Josh Kho also, the way they eat the barbecue with vinegared salad, Holy shit that's so Filipino cos Filipinos are the only people in East Asia to consume vinegar that much. It's how we eat meats with what we call Atchara and Barbecue.

Josh Kho ok wait, the language of Madagascar is under the category called "Philippine-Borneo Austronesian Languages". Wow. How did they skip the Javanese and other related languages in Indonesia?? The Malagasy are closer to Filipinos than Jakarta.

    @luzontsukuri5750

Josh Kho I think that's how they managed to cross the Indian Ocean without refrigerators back then. Surely they would have used vinegar to travel that far. And the only country on Earth today that consumes that much vinegar is the Philippines. I'm convinced the ancient Filipino seafarers rules the seas and the oceans. They would have been kings of distance sailing because even Maori of New Zealand come from the Philippines!

A nice video about our culture, our food 🍲 culture. Malagasy people are generally very friendly and simple. Madagascar is a beautiful country,The beaches were great, warm water, some natural park, waterfall, beautiful coast ❤️. To see a baobab tree! Though Morondava, a city along the Western coast, is perhaps the best place to see baobabs (it's home to the oft-photographed Avenue of Baobabs). Once there, everything is very affordable. The street food is awesome. You can eat vary sy laoka the main food in Madagascar (rice and rice topping, which could be greens, pork, chicken, egg, etc.) for less than a quarter. Travel is also easy in Madagascar. Life is pretty chill and you don't overstressed here. People are welcoming and the culture is very special and nice ! Everyone should visit this country once in their life.❤️❤️🇲🇬🇲🇬Proud to be Malagasy
