Ed Sheeran has actually gone on record saying he was a fan of Cradle of Filth and Slipknot when he was growing up. I can totally see Sheeran being the one to push for this collab to happen at all.

You’re spot on Nik, generally at the BRIT Awards it’s mainly pop or hip-hop and the occasional light rock music, it’s the first time a metal band has ever been there and to open the show is crazy. Over here it’s quite a big show, it’s at the O2 arena which is basically the stage every UK artist aspires to play at, and it was broadcast live on BBC1 (which in the channel directory is literally channel 1) at 8pm, so this is absolutely huge! And to be playing with Ed Sheeran who is arguably the biggest artist in the world (definitely in the UK) is crazy, he was spotted wearing a Drop Dead t shirt (Oli’s clothing line) and is a bit of secret metalhead at heart

What he says is actually very true. For lots of us, Bring Me was the entrance door to the metal scene - i got into them with Mantra and then discovered their discography step by step, at first i hated scream and now i love is so much, at first i coudn't here one song on There is a Hell and now Im screaming Alligator Blood or Chelsea Smile lungs out... so yeah, they aren't the heaviest band ever but their creativity, their will to smash music boundaries (this collab is the perfect exemple) will always make them special for the metal scene, and their songs are very often fun and packed with energy. So yeah, this is huge, but i wasn't expecting less from this incredible band.

Lately I hear BMTH on the radio at the grocery store in the past several months. Very proud of them. In my mind, BMTH picked up the mantle from Linkin Park after we lost Chester. Not saying better or equal, but that he picked up the baton to keep running the race when honestly most of us were too worn down from losing someone like Chester. Oli and BMTH have kept that fire alive. For me at least. They are that band now. The gateway band into metal and the scene. Good guys too. Chester would be proud of them. Again, I'm not saying they are equal to, better than, or even replacing Linkin Park, even for me, but that they are the band that kind of links music together for us all and acts as a voice for the scene. This was a huge deal. And I for one am very proud of BMTH.

I'm from the UK, and yes The Brit Awards that started in 1977, and became an annual event from 1982 onwards, doesn't normally have metal acts on it. That version of Bad Habits featuring Bring me the Horizon, was f!@#$ing incredible. It brought a whole new level to the Brits, not seen before.

Can confirm not much metal but the odd rock seeps in there every now and again (Royal Blood a few years back) but yeah, this was a first and hopefully it opens the gates for more mainstream metal. Totally agree with what you say about bring me, some tracks aren’t the best but what they’ve done for the metal scene overall is huge. I know so many people who wouldn’t have touched anything metal a few years ago but they got into BMTH and now they listen to everything from old TDWP to the brand new shit like STP and Brand of Sacrifice. But yeah, whatever you say about bring me, this is fucking huge.

Im from the UK. The Brit Awards traditionally are some of the poppiest, most corporate celeb event we have here. Its the Uk version of The Grammies with a bit of The Oscars rolled in. This... This is a dramatic departure from the norm. Its usually just pop stars fingering eachother. This is something completely new, and it is amazing. Metal has never really been close to popular in the UK, it is something that is seen as something fringe in most places, its only recently it has started to creep into the mainstream. This performance is going to open a lot of eyes. Its amazing.

And then came the breakdown. This immediately settled in my everyday playlist! And then I learned it's a cover 😅

I love how oli just sits. That man knows how to make an entrance. I still view his entrance in While she sleeps - Silence speaks as one of the coolest walk ins ever. Ed is trolling everybody by putting an album out that sells, then quietly doing collabs with people he really admires and wants to. Eds lyrics and rap on his song with Eminem and 50cent was to me more impressive than his collaborators. I'm just looking at him thinking good for you dude, really. You busked in london for years with strangers walking past just trying to make a living. Now you've made money to do something you really wanted to. I think we all strive for that. Perpetuate the common so we can afford the grandiose. To nik's point on BMTH, thank you for actually saying that. For using those words, for not being ambiguous and sit on the fence. I think the further along in your own professional career as a musician, you can understand AND appreciate the choices they made. I'll say this about artists like them; Jimi Hendrix, Linkin Park, Tech N9ne, Sting, Bee Gees, Fleetwood Mac, Skrillex and even John Mayer. Besides traversing "genres" and for some settling into one and dominating it, a typically overlooked disposition in the industry, they don't chase charts. You see some of the promos these people do and you just feel they had to cause its in the contract. They love music, and are pretty damn good at it. So they made it a career. The irony of the situation being, targeted or for some ignored because of their PERSONAL choice to develop an idea. I thank god they have scraped their knees enough crawling up to their lofts that they can now smile and politely decline ignorant pressure. Music is a necessity for our well-being. I remember getting physically excited listening to new bands on napster and praying you find more. I feel pride when a band I listened to before evolves. It shows me they are still creating, that they are human. It shines a brighter light at ALL their works. It give evidence that our society as a whole is progressing. When someone asks me an opinion on a band like Linkin Park, I'd say I have none. I love some songs. The songs are timeless, people evolve. It's a malicious and ignorant question to ask someone. It's imperative that artists don't conform. They are an important measure in the progression of society. I am smiling at what Ed did with BMTH, just thinking of the music industry and how they must be now assessing the approval ratings and scanning social media accounts thinking if they need to alter their current choices to elevate certain artists. So many Metal songs are positive it's kinda amusing. The topics broached and emotions shown have such character we should push for inclusiveness. Bands like BMTH bridge the gaps so others can take less obtrusive steps to finding something they may enjoy, which in turn supports the artists. I know this is a much longer post than usually found here, I just got emboldened by nik's passion. I'd like to leave with 1 example. Although not popular here(i'm guessing), but when I see eminem being oppressed by certain musicians it just saddens me, That they have no idea how he in a lot of ways put money in THEIR pockets. I live in Singapore. Eminem was the FIRST mainstream rapper to be played extensively on air. Its a very similar story for my neighbouring countries. He literally, and to me, single-handedly created an interest in rap and Hip-Hop. Which then increased interest in the apparel and etc. Most people found out about Dre and N.W.A. and so many others after him. Plus how many artist can say they get physically better with age. I can only think of Miss Celine Dion.
