I really hope KZreadrs continue discussing this because it's quite frankly absurd how bad it's been. I've been an honor 5 kiddie for a while and I chat a lot. Its honestly one of my favorite parts of league, just interacting with strangers of the rift but 2 back to back chat bans, have changed that. Its far too easy to just rage reported. My last chat ban the logs they showed was my entire chat log that game. Nothing was pinpointed for what I explicitly said and I was never once toxic or antagonizing. I don't even see people say "glhf" anymore or even hell "gg" at the end just dead silence. It's so miserable as a support too because I have to now manage my pings like their wards.

i don't get it, why did they even added ping mutes and chat mutes....

I like to interact with my mates with the chat but also with my opponents. I met some really nice people that way and some of them really helped me to improve too. I hope they don’t just remove the chat

it shows that they put NO thought into their decisions. sure, if you gave these ideas a momentary thought, they are ok i guess, but the moment you think even a little more, it falls apart. people using bait ping in an unintended way? remove it. surface level, sure good. think about it 10 sec longer, its bad. also it shows that they go with the first and easiest to implement idea. this could be for two reasons, they are lazy or that making improvements is genuinely that complicated with their engine and codebase. worse of all is their complete unwillingness to admit fault and swallow their pride for once. you mean to tell me that all those developers, all that almost 300 years of game design, not one said:"this is a bad approach"? really? i dont need a degree in game design to tell that these are really bad approaches to solving the problem.

I don’t understand. We have a mute button but Riot pretends that it doesn’t exist. Players who don’t want to see pings can use it, and if someone if being toxic, just mute them.

To be honest i know alot of people will cry but Dota have better system that lol in combating toxicity. They just made China Social System. You get bad points for been toxic in any way you can like: -rage quits -been mean in any way verbaly or in text (just fill it here) -anoying pinging -assisting enemy team -been xenophobic or homophobic -and that one is most important GIVING PEOPLE UNDESERVED REPORTS And obviously you get good points for: -been team player -showing up to team fights -positive additute -and even helping new players and teaching them how to play (of corse with out adding "moron" etc. I mean if you can't be polite just force people to be nice.

its the reason i dont want to play jungle anymore. i dont feel like i can communicate what id like to see happen effectively since they implemented this. i ran away to the top lane island where communication is not as necessary. this is the dumbest way they couldve handled it and hope they reconsider. but with the way phreak talks about it im not optimistic

there's no shot your friend had his restriction uplifted because when *i* got chat restricted for saying "top diff," the guy i talked to in riot support said the restriction couldn't be lifted because it was "already placed by the system," and further doubled down on the restriction by saying "X diff" is toxic enough to warrant a warning or restriction. riot pls

Personally I believe the person in charge of this decision did it out of tilt and didn't try hard enough to find a middle ground. There are people that use those pings correctly and they do provide a competitive use, so going out of your way to remove features for the sake of it seems utterly insane. As you said, use the honor system. If you are honor 3 or above you can ping your allies! This is an obvious competitive advantage and would inadvertently incentivize the competitive/toxic tommies to be more kind to their teammates.

Me here with Mute All and enemy chat permanently disabled...

does league have a toxicity issue? yes. should you solve that by hyper-moderating and controlling communications? no. the mute function exists for a reason - we can mute someone if we want to. don't do it for us, riot.

EUNE and EUW must be chaotic servers, everyone speaks a different language, but at least Pinglish is universal

The toxicity is present since the start of the game, and they keep on failing to fix it up to this most recent moment. It forever was and forever will be a problem and instead of embracing it they try to combat it. Tell me the last time csgo gave a fuck between player verbals

Combating toxicity is important for attracting and retaining new players, but it's the how that I disagree with. Rather than stricter chat monitoring and such, there should be more positive incentives for not being toxic. The honor 5 skin at the end of the season is a step in the right direction, for example
