if im not mistaken, you are right actually, that rambutan looking fruit is not rambutan, its called 'pulasan' the taste is similar but its has more compact sweetness compared to rambutan of which has that light sweetness, both are very good

  • @asakarlee5664

Just like rambutan, pulasan got it name from the word 'pulas' which means to twist. You just pulas the fruit to eat it. The inside looks like rambutan. It kinda like the 'sibling' of rambutan

Well we call it tarap here in Sabah. Super sweet fruit but the smell kinda strong a bit for some people. I don't know where or which state/ country you got the pulasan name from. You don't have to 'pulas' to open tarap, the outer skin is super soft when it's ripe.

That tarap is also widely available in Sarawak. Tarap is not related to durian, durian has duri as in its name, duri being thorns. Tarap does not have thorns, those on the outside are very soft like hairs on rambutan. Tarap is related to nangka (jackfruit), but more to cempedak. So just like cempedak goreng, tarap also is usually fried with flour coating. The hairy maroon coloured fruits are pulasan, a cousin of rambutan. It has deeper red, while red rambutan is bright red (yellow rambutan is somewhat bright yellow)

The tarap is also found in the philliplnes and is called marsng.. Which is the offical name for it. Actually you can find it in West Malaysia, but not eaten by them. It grest chilled in the fridge. We have many types of durian in Borneo as they belive that the durian orginated ftom Borneo.

  • @hplagt6880

The Terap fruit that you eat can is mostly found in Borneo Island so we here in Sarawak also have the same fruit. The small durian is called Durian Hantu or ghost durian. Can only be found in Borneo. It doesn't have strong smell like the bigger durians. Its my most favourite durian actually. Kaz when you are in Kuching you should try laksa Sarawak, kolo mee, belacan bihun. Sarawak ethnic dishes you must try is Umai (raw fish or prawn mixed with lemon, chillies and unions, another one you must try is Ayam Pansuh or chicken cooked in bamboo.
