When I was a minor, I had horrible experiences with people creating fake profiles to sexually harass me (mostly adults). It has made me scared of the internet, in a way that still sparks anxiety in me every time I post a picture of myself online. But now, instead of being afraid and just blocking the harasser (they will likely continue with other people), I do what I can to publicly call them out and warn other people. Thank you for speaking up about this issue in a way that is not "Oh I´d never do it, what a horrible thing", because it´s the majority of the reactions online. Thank you.

God I can't stand these kinds of people. There was this guy that was obsessed and thirsty for one of my OCs, so much so that it didn't even feel like he actually cared about my art (And to be clear I'm not saying that a fictional character and a real person being harassed are the same thing but I feel like the situations are similar in context). The guy didn't even bother figuring out whether I was a minor or an adult and would have disgusting conversations with me (I didn't back away because I was really young and I think he was kind of guilt tripping me). He would beg for nsfw, it drove me nuts, I eventually blocked him.

After reading some comments about it, I think I realised that I have invalidating the OP's experience and possible hurt her. I'm so sorry for putting my feeling first before her trauma. I’ve noticed that whenever an artist uploads a painting/art piece just by itself the comments are somewhat nice, complimenting the piece, etc. But as soon as the artist posts a picture of themselves with their art, comments roll in talking about their body, looks, and other gross things. It’s mind-blowing how bold these people get online. And the fact that some of these people can say gross comments to someone’s face is even more terrifying.

This video brings to mind something a professor told my friends class "if someone is willing to justify their minor transgressions by blaming the victim, then imagine what they do for something major." His example was how many rapists will also justify sexualizing people by saying "if they didn't want me to make a sexual comment then why'd they show their legs?" Or something along those lines. Just to clarify: I don't think every one who posts things like this are rapists, I think some are just stupid and never had the experience to understand how shitty that is, but after experiencing harassment myself after a friend posted a group photo on her insta it became a saying that just stuck with me. One of the people writing replies and dming me was previously charged for s*xual assault. It's just creepy and kinda scary. Seeing people make comments like that definitely changes how I feel about a person.

I started posting my work at 17 and I’ve gotten to the point where the harassment doesn’t effect me like it use to so I just got comfortable posting recently lol bc it will happen even in my posts with just sweatpants/covered head to toe! I’ve seen many male artists post almost naked and not receive horrible comments and just always made me uncomfortable, but to any female artists reading this please don’t be afraid to post yourself on your OWN page! "Sexual Harassment" It's all I hear about...I wonder if too many cooks in the kitchen have been making a mess, rather than helping the stew get cooked, so to speak. Perhaps we should be better about how we go about it, rather than just talking about it. How many people just go "Oooh. That's bad!" Then do absolutely nothing to combat it. Standing there pointing the finger does nothing for the victims. Pick up a shovel and help us dig these holes. It's time to bury these pieces of sh!t. I wonder how many men will be gone when it's over? Oh wait! That's right...IT NEVER ENDS. I guess we'll always just be those who say, "That bad. No. No." and never do a flipping thing about it. It's a spiral that keeps on going and nothing changes.

thats false. if she just wanted to post art, she wouldnt insert herself in half the pictures. thats not something most people do. in this case she's clearly an attention seeking person not just for her art (which in itself may just be a way of grabbing attention), and now she's butthurt because that also includes negative attention. what a surprise! you reap what you sow these people are making stupid ass decisions and then expect everyone else to kiss their ass

She’s really good with her craft I also noticed she has a nice paint collection. Best of luck to her and to hell with these assholes have to say. Honestly though they sound like they have the same attitude as high school teachers have about dress codes

I'm disgusted by not surprised. I always advise to sue or screen shot and share. Most people think they can do whatever because they don't know it's illegal or that there would be consequences. (also apply for death treats that are really common to read). Harassers are cowards a lot of the time, like to feel they have the power to do that. Even if the system is ineffective being sued or exposed alone makes them know they don't have that power.

As an artist, this hurts. Especially with how beautiful her art is and how hard she works on each art piece, only to get harassed by “simps”. She is a human being, not an object for your sexual fantasies. Grow up and leave her the hell alone. Also new fan of the videos, love the messages you bring up and discuss. Things like this, though from 7 months ago, is needed to spoken out about.

Did you go look at her IG? Her Twitter is suspended right now. She definitely pushes for the sexy IG look in many of her photos. Amazing artist but let's not give her a complete pass because she's an amazing artist. She's also trying to push some tight clothes with provacative poses to attract more followers.

I feel like some people just never learn common decency. Its actually disgusting. This just sums up why i gave up on most social media. Tbh its a problem that should not exist in the first place. I hope more people see this, and speak up.

I had an artist friend who never shared a picture of herself online, but her gender was known. She received similar treatment - ranging from perverted overtures to physical threats. The harassment was non stop. She is a successful artist specializing in hyper realistic portraits and her only interaction with the public was to share her art and encouragement. I think the only thing that attracted that kind of hate was her gender. Some people share pictures of themselves alongside their art to put a human face to it: they don't want to be on a pedestal, they are trying to show the work came from their own two hands. Sometimes it's for scale and sometimes its to strengthen a copywrite. You're super damned if you do (It's bad if you're conventionally attractive, it's bad if you're not. These absolute walnuts just see easy targets) You're also damned if you don't but have revealed your gender. I myself have retreated from posting my art publicly now. I am not really sure what to do really.

Me too, I'm glad there are men who started to understand these problems and talk about it instead of being pressed when women talks about their problems with men.

This sort of harassment happens to me all the time online. Not with art but I get harassed in online games. Im suffering from depression and this harassment really doesnt help. Im glad he gives this topic more awareness. People really dont think about what they say or do can affect a person, even long-term.

I am 22 years old NSFW artist, I was being harassed almost every day so I had to delete and create a new account. 😐 I didn't even have any pictures of me posted along with art. I just mentioned that I was female only to few people who cared to ask 🙄

The fact that people are focusing on her body instead of her creativity says alot about these people. I guess looks are the only thing that matters to them.

This is why I don’t show my face on my art account and I’m working on a character to hide behind. I’d much prefer people see me as a funky shadow person with a bow tie .

Yup... I'm also part of the "I Have An Online Avatar To Deal With This Bull" club... Mine has a fantasy scifi design, with a closed helmet. :) Would be nice to greet other people's online personas. Maybe someday I'll study how to make VR chat models, that would be fun.

I hate when the term 'simp' is just thrown around to any man that treats or speaks to a woman with the slightest ounce of dignity or respect (you know, like a HUMAN BEING).

I've used and seen others use the argument that just because they post it on social media, that you don't have the right to say whatever you want, and often get the reply, "freedom of speech" as their impenetrable golden armor of justification. All these points you're making are great, and I agree. The problem lies in the internet and people's ability to be and stay mostly unknown.

It reminds me of a time last year when I posted some of my favorite icon commissions I’ve done and one comment from some dude said “just sell lewd cosplays you will make money”. And i found it to be so inappropriate for him to say ugh 😩

This is such an amazing video, Mohammed. I can tell you really gave it a lot of thought and put in a lot of time and effort to try and actually make people see how this type of behaviour is wrong and hopefully stop doing it. You're obviously a caring person, thank you so much.

Once I was so attacked by men bc of a comment I made on a yt video about how some artists draw women in anime/manga. While my profile was called "Blue", they were just disagreeing normally or saying that men also are sexualized in some productions (and I agree, they really are), but when I had to change my google account's name to my real name bc of the online classes on google platform, the guys on the yt comment started to attack me using bad words referring to my gender and called me dumb. That made me feel so bad that I had anxiety crises bc it was the first time I felt hard the difference of behavior and treatment while I was considered a boy and when they discovered I was a girl. After that, I stopped making comments and even thinking about posting this one makes me anxious. I can't image how this artist felt. I hope she's okay and keep making art.

As a man i am ashamed of my gender and what these sick people do to women. I am sorry whoever is going through this.

I’m an online artist but I have a private account for personal posts for my friends. Normally my pfps are pictures I drew, but once I decided to change it to a picture of me (on my private account). Within like 10 minutes I got a follow request from some random older guy I don’t know. I know it isn’t much or anything, but it just surprised me how fast it happened on my private account lol

Honestly tho, it's so strange when you put out your gender into the world, somehow the reaction just changes completely. I'm not thinking about everything through the lens of "I'm a girl", I'm a person first and should be treated like that. I feel horrible for her, it must be so grating on the artists that go through this

I see why my sister told me to be careful when comes to this... She called me out for accepting stranger's friend request which I didn't know that they will take advantage of me.

You see some guys will do crap like this and wonder why women won't talk to them.

I find that infuriating that some people do that. That's the reason why I don't show my face online -ever-; by fear those people would come to me,even tho I'm not that attractive I am disgusted that some women have to deal with this just because they showed their face/ body

Another example: I changed my Instagram profile picture for my meme page to a selfie. I got hundreds of guys dm-ing me "Hie, I wanna look u, sand piks" and someone even said, "Wat secret behind ur beuty *wink"

I have a private account on Instagram, and the profile pic is very zoomed out but I am a young female, and I still get guys twice or three times my age requesting to dm me. Even though I’ve done everything I can to stop it :/

Like no body fluffing asked for him to share his fantasies. He should have focused his time praising her art or not saying anything at all… As a lesbian I get it when a lady looks pretty and it feels like you have say something. Simply just keep it to yourself if you don’t have anything else to say other than “You look nice today” at least that’s not as offensive and fluffed up as typing and entire scenario. For some reason he felt like he could keep that crap to himself, and at that point that guy needs to seek help.

It's scary that this kind of harassment happens online and in person all the time. Stay safe everyone.

I’ve seen some men say artists that are women have it easy because we can just post pics of ourself to get attention. If only they knew the shit we deal with, there is no way in hell I’m posting a pic of my body with my art because I dread what will come my way

That's one of many reasons why I said goodbye to social media, people literally stealing your identity or art and harassing young and talented people. I've reported a lot of those creeps, but nothing happened.

Ugh some men are so disgusting. Some woman could find the cure for cancer but some men will still only see her for her body. We aren’t just objects to gawk at. Disgusting.

I love your art 'tea' videos, but I'm so glad you use your platform to speak on serious and real life issues, especially on marginalized online victims. I really wish there was a form of action for social media platforms to ban IP addresses when there are repeat sexual offenders online. Unfortunately people exploit freedom of speech online as "freedom to harass people" when they could literally be doing anything else productive in their life.

I’m just getting into posting my art online and as a female… sigh. Thanks to the veil of socializing through the internet, those attracted, can’t help but reveal the idiots like them that frequent the world. As an OG gamer and artist, comments like this stands out often in these environments, unfortunately, and these particular guys are bitter about women in my opinion. It’s just something I noticed in real time and on the internet. 🙄

I've never heard of this situation but i am very glad you are talking about it. As an artist I do have a bit of fear in regards to posting photos of myself. The most ill do is post drawings but not real photos. Not only have I been sexually harassed in real life ,I've had uncomfortable interactions online. It's really sad that as women we have to weigh in the pros and cons on how we express ourselves. Because that one cute photo can lead to never ending harassment. I hope things get better for her, and for my fellow women in creative spaces, keep at it. And for the weirdos out there, seek therapy.
