THIS IS BAD: 1981 DeLorean Engine Tear Down | Can It Be Rebuilt? | RESTORED
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Join in with the Restored crew as they walk through the "Valley of Death" to try and revive some life back into this 1981 Delorean DMC-12. After finding trouble in the "valley", the guys keep the faith in hopes to see these dry bones back to life. Going the full 9 yards, the team fights against rusty bolts, questionable slime, and deteriorating parts. After fighting the good fight of faith, will the crew be able to see this ol' classic resurrected or is this motor going to need an obituary?

Lol you guys got more hope than me. I would have made a boat anchor out of it a long time ago. 🤣

I was thinking how fast I would have turned around and walked away from that engine and been all over the car!

engine was, from memory, a Renault unit, which was also used by Volvo. they should be fairly easily available, although many in the USA are converting to V8 power to give them the performance they always should have had.

@@petelattimer6808 yeah, I am kind of bored with a LS-swapping everything, but I have seen these cars with an LS4 from a FWD car that brings them up over 300hp. I don't think many mods are required and the original gearbox is used (with internal component upgrades).

Engine was also used in the Peugeot 604 with 3 carbs (1 single plus 1 double) or with injection. I owned a 604 SL in Norway. Actually, these engines can be made to perform very well with some special parts. Even a turbo. They can do easily 7000 rpm without damage to valvetrain , it is originally very good balanced. As a engine unit they can be made to do about 300 HP with turbo/supercharger and it will last if done correctly. @@petelattimer6808
Totally addictive! Couldn't stop watching! Can't believe this engine is still in contention. You guys just ain't got any quit in you. Can't wait to see what happens next. Bless y'all and keep 'em coming!
I will not be surprised to you guys get this motor back together and it purr like a kitten. Y’all are walk on water miracle workers when it comes to bringing these dead engines back to life! Never cease to amaze me!!
TR, I don't know if you fellas have a boat but I do think you now have an anchor! Your patience is admirable, but that engine has a tragic history! Great video!
Check with Vice grip garage, he just pulled a DeLorean motor out.

this is interesting as my friend ...has a dual turbo delorean factory built for the prime minster of finland ...and it would take your breath away...derek
I enjoyed this teardown as much as any other build or recovery ...it may have been gross and full of rust ,but I really enjoy this kind of episode. I really learn alot about a totally different kind of motor..
So glad you guys aren’t giving up on the valley of death
Absolute perseverance again ..... quitting is no option attitude...you guys are awesome....
I have faith in you guys. That Ford motor out of the truck looked way worse. Yous still managed to rebuild that. You've got this.
Wow, you guys are amazing. I would have thrown in the towel a long time ago. I am locked in and can't waiting to see the end. This has to be the most intense restoration I have ever seen! Thanks!

I think Back to the Future was one of the best movies I ever saw! The was way under powered, Johnny Carson was stuck in one on the 405 for hours!!!! I always wanted one! God bless you both for your efforts!!!😊🙏😇💪
Man! Your commitment to this build is incredible, what the heck did the previous owner do that engine?! Did they use it as a fish tank?!

I’ve yet to see anyone successfully repair the valley of death. Maybe y’all will be the first. More power to ya!!
Never saw anything like this, respect your endurance!
I like the scripture from Psalm 23. You guys are so entertaining and inspirational to watch. A Father and Son working together with the whole family. That's what's missing in this age. Love the content guys.
Man! What a waste of a Delorean. The engine especially for it to sit and decay as it did and not be garaged. Still one unique design of a car until this day. Great work Men and keep up the good work. Just remember philippians 4:13
Awesome video! So much better than just swopping the engine out, there is no fun in watching that anymore. You can absolutely pull this motor through the valley of death, that block is definitely fixable by welding holes shut with gussets or drilling and tapping holes. What an epic storyline this will be with your channel’s name, the valley of death issue and second chances! Please get her running again🙏🙏

But why tho? The original engine was sub par even when new and had tons of issues. Put a modern engine in it and make it at least reliable.
@pieterloock8911
5 ай бұрын
@@ingresswizard9044 100% agree with what you say, especially from reliability standpoint, but those cars properly restored and numbers matching will reach silly money in future, whereas a modern engine swop out will also cost fair bit but you will have very little value in the end. Either option will be a tonne of work, so I would choose the one that leaves me with the best investment when all is said and done. Plus I am just a sucker for trying to save any old engines, can’t stand the thought of someday soon only having electric motors to get excited about…
Y'all went through all that pain. I wouldn't even of bothered dismantling that motor would've droppped a supercharged Series II 3.8 in it! Good job though, hard workers💪💪👍👍!
SUPERB, what a massive effort. Great work!
Derek (VGG) may still have one of these engines, may be worth checking with him.
Wow I never knew DeLorean just ran on vinegar.. learn something new everyday
After seeing how it look under the valve cover I would’ve just go with this engine is junk and look for another engine. You guys are really committed!
Godspeed, boys. When uou called the guy from DeLorean usa, as soon as he saw the hole, he was like, yeah, you're done. You might want to try derrick from vice grip garage as he just pulled the engine from his delorean, he might still have it and it might be better than yours
Can’t wait to see the next one
OMG ,, YOU GUYS HAVE A LOT ON YOUR HANDS ,, VERY SAD!!! I DO BELIEVE THAT CAR WAS SITTING IN SOME WATER FOR A WHILE ...I HAVE WATCH YOUR VIDEOS FOR A LONG TIME AND THIS IS A DUUZZZZIE , DEPRESSING... ITS HARD TO FIND DONOR ENGINES FOR THIS CAR..IT GETS WORST,WE NEED A PRAYER.. YOU GUYS ARE STILL THE BEST ,, WE NEED A SOS IF ANYONE CAN HELP THAT HAS ANOTHER ENGINE .. WOW!! THANKS GUYS......
Mine had the same stuff in the heads. Congealed antifreeze
I had no idea that the Delorean engine was so complicated. I was never a big fan of these cars because they were all show and no go. You guys have a huge task to try and get this motor to run again. It had to be under water to explain all the rust. Good luck and God bless!
I think you should holler at Derrick at Vise Grip Garage. He did an LS engine swap on his DMC. He has the old engine he took out that might be good.
Great job guys. Love this DeLorean series. Keep ‘em coming!
Guys, my dad is a retired Italian Air Force airplane mechanic, and as a young boy I never understood how he could like very much to tear things down and make them work again. It was dirty and demanding, and I simply didn’t want to have anything to do with it. Now, while watching your videos, I can understand him much more! Thank you for that and God bless you!
Great video. Love watching you two guys working together. Thumbs up from England. Keep up the hard work on the Delorean. Enjoying watching the updates 👍👍👍
Please keep it and throw in twin turbos. The factory Legend Turbos prototypes were said to have been on par with the Testarossa acceleration wise. Don't forget the Alpine A610 Turbo, also an amazing car, using the same PRV V6.
I knew better when you first started and thought it would be easy I was laughing 😂
What a fight. But you guys persisted. Looking forward to more of this "Valley of Death, DeLorean"
I loved that ending. It made me shiver. Guys, you're the BEST!!!
OMG I was so glued to the screen waiting for what was next on the disassembly and now can’t wait for the next video. Many Blessings to you ✌🏽
Great job! Thanks for blessing us with another great video.
Don't give up. God's with us on this. Cheers from Brazil.
Great video! I love seeing a car like this get some restoration!!!
Well job done. The maintaining non-atmospheric engine is like... is like working with film for the photographer nowadays, from start to the end. Once more thank you, gentlemen.
Awsome guys like allways🔥😎 One off my dream cars😍
Good luck and God bless you all, great evening to you and your family. Try and enjoy your weekend.

You guys really want that engine to live. I am watching till the end. Been ill the last two days and stumbled on to this channel. Watched too many episodes already. I like the fact that you appreciate the life in those old vehicles as it is. 👍🏾. Hard work you people doing.
Can’t wait to see more on this! Y’all are persistent!👍🏻
Amazing... although I have never seen your workshop in such disarray before.... you were like a couple of kids playing in a mud bath...😊
it is a shock to see a vacuum cleaner going into the engine goop. I enjoy the extensive and real videos. tks
Been watching your show for a couple weeks, started with bustin rust found you started this restored. I’m an old back yard mechanic myself. Keep up the good work.
That was fun, for me anyway. Great Work!
Awesome engine tear down video folks, very interesting to see inside a Delorean engine, I hope you can get the block repaired and any other parts it may need to get it back running again, all the best and god bless 👍👍👍
I watched for the carnage and was not disappointed. That was a lot of effort to pull that engine apart. Alex on Legit Street Cars did a full restoration on his DeLorean but his was only showing the first signs of the valley of death syndrome. He found a NOS parts supplier in Chicago area and was able to get parts and advice on rebuilding his car. You might consider contacting him about engine options. He is a master mechanic with over 20 years experience.
I am very appreciated those hard workers.
So glad you guys took the challenge! Best of luck, cheers from Sri Lanka
the PRV engine is still pretty common, and they all corroded engine blocks,we had alot of them in 260 volvos in australia, and the last 2 i seen were scrapped for corroded engine blocks,a 3.4 or 4L toyota v6 would be a great replacement

Aaah that’s why a Volvo manual was in the trunk. Didn’t know that
As a 30 year Delorean owner, I’m really Enjoying watching the First ever KZread Teardown of Delorean PRV. All I can say is, do your research. Complete Engine Rebuild information and parts are easily available from Delorean Midwest and can be found online under Delorean Workshop Manual.
Excellent. Amazing tenacity.
Stinkin' awesome!
Definitely got more patience then me, but atleast you know now all the extra work is going to be worth it in the long run for the rebuild ❤ All the best, love and strength ❤️ Love the bloopers too, more please! 😂
Wow what a fight great video y’all thanks
Great Video!!! Can't wait for round 2🙂
So amazing guys working hardly getting out of Rust engine finally getting done good job ready rebuild smoothly ❤
you guys got this cant wait to see it run again
Good luck for this restoration. Even in France the V6 PRV (Peugeot, Renault, Volvo) wasn't famous because of : low power, big fuel consumption, bad balancing (at the very start it was a V8 project). I live about 20 miles from the factory where this engine was made.
Amazing work you guys
I absolutely love watching these videos
No matter how destroyed engines are its still fascinating seeing them stripped down.
Should’ve put a doggy pool from the pet store under that engine while you were working. Might save some of the mess. I’ve done that before
"yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for Thou art with me." Y'all are deep into the valley! :-) Honestly, I am rooting for this engine to live again. I cannot wait to see more. I don't recall watching you and your dad tear an engine all the way down like this, but it has been fascinating and I am certainly hoping that the outcome is good! As someone else stated, maybe you will be the first to successfully repair the 'Valley of Death" and bring this engine back to life! God bless!
Wow! That got intense, quickly! Ya'll are braver men than me... Blessings to all ya'll, and may God bless this, uh... engine!
Wauw...just wauw😊 thx looking forward to the next video
Great one. Love the engine tear downs
Hey lance for you to be able to remove the timing chain you must go thru the timing cover to remove the chains lol
Thank you for showing me the time you put in taking the engine apart can't wait to see how it works out for you God bless you And All your family And friends see you on the next video 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆👍👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏🙏
I have a subscriber that owns a Delorean. It was a project between she and her dad. Her dad passed away, and she lost interest in it. She saw my late father's 1958 Plymouth on my channel and that gave her the desire to start working on it again. You never know who you might inspire or encourage with a video! I'm going to show her this video. Her engine still runs, or it did a couple of years ago. Hopefully she can catch things before they get as bad as this poor engine! God bless!!
Your dad is the best. Man of very few words. “Yep” “that’s what I was thinkin” “Like I said” “mmmhmm” 😂😂
One of the very best fish and chips vids I have ever watched'😂😂😂😂 this is the kind of video I love to watch on KZread,! Thx father & son. Regards from South Africa❤
Enjoyed watching. 👍🏼👍🏼
Can't wait to see where you go with this
Thanks for all you do love watching you and your Dad You guys are a inspiration both on reviving old cars but in life thank you. Still think a VW bug T-shirt would be awesome
You guys r awesome. Everything is possible with prayer and dedication 🙏
Wow, didn't think you guys would continue after seeing some of the insides of that engine. Must say, I'm very keen to see more of it and how it turns out for you both! 😎
Great video guys. Not be afraid to allow some of the humor and levity of the "end bloopers" to come out in your main videos.
Keep it up for the BTTF part 4 💪🏻 cant wait for it.
Keep it up guys !Great job !
I love all your challenging videos!!
Love the out takes.
I went to college back in late ‘60s in Daytona Beach, Fla. at that time you could drive on the beach. Some folks would park too far out at low tide. Come back to find there car under water. That would explain the total water damage and the sea shell in the engine. You may find more salt water damage when you attack the interior. Keep up the good work.
Wow guys that engine is so bad. I hope you will be able to find a new block for it. Can't wait to see the episode on this thing🤠🤠🤠🙏
I always enjoy y'alls videos! No matter what y'all choose to do with it, it'll turn out well
Love these cars, my neighbour has one in bits in garage waiting to be fixed up
You Gentlemen are REALLY going for it! That mill looks like burnt toast crushed to crumbs. That said, if we are up to episode 2, you Gear Angels are fighting to beat the evil history out of this ride. I say "GO FOR IT!" Turn that dang thing into a DeKraven and make it your own!!!
Enjoyed you guys not giving up and tearing that motor all of the way down.
Hi from Missouri thank you for another good video. Hopefully the motor can be fixed but I believe if anybody can get it that motor running it be you guys if you guys work miracles when it comes to motors,.love you guys and God bless.
Awesome video boys big respect 2u both from 🇬🇧
You guys do great work Amen to your hard work
love this keep it coming👍 looks like a flooded engine
I heard of opening a can of Worms. But that was the worst rust inside an engine. Christian has to be arm weary. Filming you men. Glad Lance that you and your dad are not quitting. You and your viewers are in for some extremely interesting videos. Thanks for sharing. 💯👍👊

Thank you so much for your support!
The more important question is, once the body is stripped to a shell and that paint is removed, is it in good shape? If so, then discuss how to proceed with other DeLorean youtubers and owners. You may even be able to do a collaboration with DeLorean nation and those who installed the LS6 (LS anyway) engine swap and have a car combining the best of the old, with the best of the new.
