Chapeau!

My father owned one of these for years. Great cars and fast cruisers for their time. Like being on a magic carpet. Everything hydraulic. Funnily enough ours had a fibreglass front bonnet as opposed to the aluminium one found here. They must have realised it was cheaper to make. I remember well because some dude with road rage (nothing new here) tried leaning in on the front bonnet to damage it and it just sprang right back into shape 🙂 Only slight damage was a crack in the paint but it kind of polished out. I'd love to have one today. So comfortable and in advance on their time. I never realised how well situated the engine was. So low and behind the front axle ! No wonder the handling was good too.

Best Auto ever made for the average working guy. I had the pleasure of having two of them. A 1958 DS21 Black and White (Comfort, Speed and Dependable). Also, a 1961 ID 19 Blue and White Engineered way ahead of it's time. I enjoyed them both through the 70's. lost both of them because of rusting out the enclosed tubular frame from salting the roads here in PA. I'm now 82 and enjoyed your video, it brought back so many pleasant thoughts and memories. Citroen is and has been a real car to fall in love with. Driving down the Hi way on 3 wheels always brought a lot of attention and conversations. Thank you and God Bless the work of your hands. Allan

At that time the DS19 and ID21 were the best and most original car made in France (with the 2CV in a different class). So many features that it amazed many foreigners when they saw this very designed or sci-fi car for the first time. Over 20 years my father had three to five of them; the latest being the all leather hupolstery Pini Farina convertible; that was class. I never saw a car that was more outstanding in my family history. Buying and driving new cars after that was like going back to the world of "ordinary". Great video : no talking. Hydraulic brake lines can be substituted for suspension lines. Remember, those lines and that reservoir are responsible for the power steering, the brakes, the suspension and if it was a citromatic semi automatic, the transmission as well. In other words, when red fluid is leaking, you can lose your brakes and steering so that your suddenly bouncy suspension will be the least of your worries! When the suspension is correct, you will feel almost nothing in the way of bumps. Don't lose anything. A lot of bolts, neoprene rubber and other parts are unique. Amazing work for someone not familiar with Citroen.

You are observing the strangest designed and constructed vehicle of the century. Nothing you think you know about how a vehicle should operate is applicable here. Just the hydraulic suspension alone is a maze of piping, pressure balls, pumps and fittings. When first manufactured in France, it was considered the most advanced and compliant system ever conceived. The quality of the ride is spectacular. Did you also notice the engine is installed backward? Things get more complicated from there. Reviving this little beauty will be a lifelong challenge for anyone not experienced with Citroen servicing. 🙏

Its quite simple once your used to it. The gearbox is infront of the motor, the driveshafts are massive and carry the braking forces as well as the motors power. The brakes are massive inboard disc brakes. They use an intricate clockwork mechansim to take up the adjustment as the pads wear (for the handbrake, that is on the front, it can't be on the back as the wheel base changes as the car lifts and drops due to the trailing arm design)

I've seen pictures of these, but I have never actually seen anyone work on one of these. This is a heckuva project to take on, considering that it was partially disassembled. Everything for this car is probably unobtainium in the States. I'm glad you guys gave her a shot though. What an unusual, but really cool old car.

The ride was superb. I like the silent format, but some reaction to the scorpion find in the cylinder was probably muted out.😂

What an incredible wrecking yard,, love that 68 to 73 GMC pickup,,,, we all live in the world of shelby mustangs, 454 chevelles and Hemi cudas, there are other cars out there folks that are just as beautifull and worth saving and this is definately one,, i dont need jay lenno to tell me what i should like but he has one of these and loves it.I own an old Camaro with a hot 383 and like it a lot but i get just as much pleasure driving my old 1990 505gti peugeot wagon, the car was being thrown out to the crusher, i got it put a recon motor in it, detailed it and now have a car people take photo,s of everytime i drive it. While it wont smoke the tires or run low 12,s at the strip its beautifull to drive a french classic that you never see. Steve in Australia ,, Old French cars Are beautifull AND RELIABLE. THE greatest invention of the 20th century Competition was 1 the ball point pen 2 the Citroen DS 3 The lunar landing modual Neil Armstrong set down on the moon.
