I hear you. My arms are torn to shreds from my dog who is terrified of fireworks. And you are right, the older he gets the worse he gets. I am really angry because people carry on with fireworks for days before and days after. I'm tired of being told I'm not patriotic because I get so angry.

I have a104 lbs.pitbull mix. She doesn't like the fireworks or thunder. My vet has me give her trazadone for her stress. It has helped greatly.

I keep the AC on 67 in my dog building for my GPs. They freak out during fireworks, as does my dad ( a WWII Veteran).

I put my ac’s down to 61-64 (they keep my house between 67-71) depending upon the weather outside for my big guy. He has too much fur for this humidity

Suggestion: You could get an old fashioned half and half door. Put some heavy plastic strips across the threshold, like they have in grocery store freezers. Just unlatch the bottom half and keep it open. It'll keep the cool air in better.

Mojo is great and it’s well deserved. Look into the hard plastic strips used for industrial refrigerators or freezers entrances. He can push through the plastic strips but it will provide insulation for the shed.

I think most of us know what you mean about fireworks Kevin. They're the curse of every rural stock owner's life often with huge damage caused by fire on dry grass or horses, cows or sheep seriously hurt because they run in terror! I've always lived in big towns and cities and all of my many dogs and cats have hated the noise. I have always had them mustered and inside the house with the exits locked down, long before sundown, then I turn classical music up loud and they can STILL hear the percussion through the music so I end up with them all on the couch with me.....the big ones under my legs and the little ones and cats on my shoulders, lap or tucked down next to me with their heads jammed in behind me! If only the chaos was legally confined to one day it would be easier but there are idiots who celebrate for a week before and a week afterwards! Poor Mr Mo....my heart goes out to him 😢...he's such a special boy. ❤

Good for you not doing fireworks at the house, they are terrible for the animals, they get so scared that they run away just to get away from the noise. Thank you for being so kind to Mojo, I feel bad for my animals too, with the heat. I have to tell you, these appliances are no good anymore, the old ones lasted far longer than the new ones, I really hate the new ones.

Maybe you could hang a shower curtain on the doorway so it holds the cool air better and Mojo can still go in easily, use a clear curtain so he can see it's open?

@@deanfish-jr6xv I had a rescue dog. She’d been abused and that’s why she needed that safe space. Loud noises especially set her off. Power tools and lawn mowers were another trigger. We all manage our dogs differently I guess but that approach worked for her.

Kevin you could start feeding Mojo in the garage where it's cooler and he will feel safe.

Love Mojo! Anyone says he's "slow" definitely doesn't know what a Great Prynesse or Livestock Dogs job. He's nonstop patrolling at night because they're nocturnal. But he can go Beast Mode in a blink of an eye! They rest during the day. My sisters great Prynesse is 2 and moves just like MOJO during the day. I love how you talk like MOJO. I picture him talking just like that!

We live close to neighbors who set their fireworks off. My dogs cower under me when they do this and they have 3 dogs that they keep confined to the back yard. Needless to say I don't think too highly of them and their treatment of their dogs.

Mojo is an excellent LGD. My golden retriever was so afraid of thunder and fireworks. She would actually start shaking. I would put the radio on and sit with her and pet her. I'm with Mojo . I've never liked the fireworks noises or thunder since I was little. I'd hide with Mojo to lol

Pulling our Pyrs’ undercoat out with a dog rake helps air flow near their skin to keep them cool in summer. Then the undercoat regrows when cold weather hits so they can stay out in the super cold of winter. If they aren’t outdoors enough it disrupts their fur cycle. Our goat herd has dwindled down, so our two current rescue Pyrs love being house dogs. 😂 They go in and out all day, and love laying on our AC vents and the cool hardwood floors in one end of our house. ❤ We have glass French doors on each end of the house so when the Pyrs get too hot they come to the glass doors and stare at us….lol..

I used to have a lab husky mix that hated fireworks and I found that if I brought him inside with me and sat with him during the fireworks he would calm down a lot. Best dog I ever had for 13 years. He was around long enough to start training my current dog on how to act... mostly..

My dog too. She was pretty scared. I noticed that when she heard one go off she would look at me scared and look for my reaction. I just kept assuring her and not reacting. She settled way down but listened for those still going off. Still checking on my reaction.

I understand as I have an old dog that hates noises of any kind. I have to babysit him as he whines when I don't sit near him. I feel so bad for him. I hate firecrackers.But I love my dog.

got a tip for ya. you could put a dutch door aka farm door on the shop. it is split in the middle reallly to keep out critters shut on the bottom. but you could do it the other way. close the top of the door and leave the bottom door open. you could also put plastic on the top of the door to keep the cool air inn and keep some of the chickens out.

My dog was very afraid of fireworks and thunder storms he would climb into the bathtub and try to dig a hole inside the tub. The last year of his life would wrap him inside a blanket and try to put the tv up very loud to wipe out the noise outside. Poor Mojo he is such a cute dog , hope you putting him inside the garage . Instead of a dog door put a stable door on they have an independent top and bottom section and that way you can leave the bottom section open for mojo…. I used stable doors for my leonburgers kennels… 👍🏻

Kevin, I am sure that Mojo greatly appreciates you setting up the shop with the mini-split so that Mojo can relax in comfort, and hopefully doesn't get too freaked out from the fireworks in the neighborhood. I always feel sorry for the animals on the holidays where fireworks are set off. Thank you for doing what you can to make them more comfortable.

We made our own doggy door for our dogs "condo". We had a heater in there for the winter. We just got thick plastic and cut strips and hung it in the opening. You could cut a hole in the door and sandwich it between a 2x2 frame and the door like we did. He can walk right through and i doubt the chickens could push the heavier type plastic. Our dog was 120 lbs wolf /german Shepard mix. He only needed the heat later in his life. During the summers we put a fan in his "condo" it had to be big for a big dog so we called it his condo. Sarge hated being in the house. Only time he came inside was the night before we let him go. It's been at least 25 years but he is still missed and one of the best dogs we ever had. He was 15 y/o. Long, loved life for a big boy 💜

Went to let my little Shih Tzu out to potty and just as she walked out side, the kids next door set of a big bright fireworks that had 3 big booms and I felt so bad! She was shaking and I just held her until she settled down. I was starting to get mad at the neighbors for not stopping their kids, as it was at 11:42!!

Have you a radio in there for music to help drown out the fireworks?

Get a vinyl door for the shop : Low Temp Vinyl Strip Door Kit - 3 X 7' (Uline is the company). It’s a hanging door flap. I’ve seen these used in food/fruit warehouses in Florida. Mojo can push in and out to get in the shop and all the AC won’t flow out.

Love the video and the care you give. When we had a dog we had to put her in the house on the 3rd and 4th of July. God bless.

You are SO LUCKY to live where you do. Try living in a neighborhood! The fireworks this year were the worst in the 17 years I have lived in this house. People started lighting them off since JUNE 18th! And it's been every evening/night ever since. The night of the 4th was SO BAD, I could not sit on my porch and listen to my book. They were everywhere. It sounded like a war zone. My cats stayed hidden down in the basement until almost 5am yesterday morning. I truly wish the city would go back to the old ordinance where it was illegal to light off fireworks any day other than the 4th of July. Oh, my heart breaks for all of the wild animals that sleep in the trees at night. I can't even imagine how they feel. That was truly insane. Fireworks every night for almost 3 WEEKS. still going last night until 11:30pm. Pray for some peace tonight!

My two senior passed one last week and the other passed 4 days ago they were 19 and 20 yrs old my remaining girl is 8 yrs old and spunky as heck but fireworks didnt seem to bother her she looked to i remained calm and relaxed shes been staying close to me since her grandma passed on.

Was watching end of "Think Like A Horse" Sun Live, just now with Rick and there was a discussion about a lady called Jamie and Lester (From Suits to Boots) that have some miniature donkeys for rescue / adoption. They would be looking for owners with some experience with these donkeys and suitable pasture. If you ask Rick he may be able to give you the details.

I feel the same wayMojo. I run my mini split just to get the humidity out of the air so i can breathe . With congestive heart failure it really helps especially at night.

Mojo is a very gifted dog. Hes a sensitive. I wish he could take something for the fireworks but he has to work. My Chihuahua shakes so bad im afraid he'll have a heart attack. He gets trazadone. Its been a game changer he just lays on the chair with me. ❤ Please get a video of Mojo in the shop with A/C.

Just because a dog or other pet develops shakes at loud noises , thunder/fireworks does NOT mean cowardly. We sold one of our German Shepard pups, that had fear of such noises, but became a Guard Dog, of commercial properties overnight. When it came to work/duty, was faultless. Infact twice got into "shooting instances. Once actually hit but survived with vet care, front shoulder hit. The dog had tackled three burglars at a hardware shop, twice burgled already. Five shots were fired as the dog attacked. One shot grazed his tail, followed by another that hit the shoulder, as he continued his attack on the shooter. Disabled fell, the burglars proceeded but left quickly largely empty handed compared to prior burglaries. A year later, on duty at a car yard, the dog was between police and two persons having a shoot out with police after alarms had been setoff. True the dog had only kept the two offenders cornered, with some shots being fired. As police interchanged shots the dog crawled closer to the two, and at opportunity, left up grabbing the one shooters arm as he rose to shoot towards the police. Gun was dropped, second offender gave up and both were arrested. Dog was credited for action and got a certificate from police department. Dog did over 6 years guard duty and were twice more asked if we had litters available, sadly we were not 'breeders' that one litter had been an accidental one between our male pure bred and a German Shepard /Labrador/Collie female dog rescued with six more pups from a sackful dumped into the lake beside my father's fuel station/car workshop. Somehow the three year old female got bred, without us aware, while much effort was made to keep them separated. Of their litter the one went into official guard dog career the others made loyal family and home guard pets. It seems fear of loud noises does not mean inability to do their duty.😊❤ Mojo is neither slow or afraid, has many times served his role in exemplary manner, acting in best way as LGD.

You can make your own doggie door for mojo

Our Great Pyrenees doesn’t like fireworks or thunder. She hides in the master closet in a corner. We try to get her into the basement where it is harder to hear. She loves to curl up in corners so we leave a few options for her to hide and curl up in. They are the best dogs!

Fix the door on a weak spring and tape the bolt so the door will close but Mo Jo can push it open and pull it open from inside. Greg

You could actually do like my hubby and make your own doggie door. He just cut an opening and used hard plastic type material that hung in the opening for the dog than just replacing the opening in cold weather. Worked great.
