The other saftey issue I have encountered on dirt tracks and tarmac is caravaners travcelling in convoy close to each other which makes it difficult to pass. Some have the UHF channel they use written on the back of the caravans but that is no good if they aren't monitoring it or are blabbing on the channel to their mates so you can't get a word in to let them know to make a gap so that you can pass.

Hi Chris and Miriam, how are you both going. The safety issue you talked about is so true. About 10yrs ago due to no culmination on the other victimless behalf we nearly got tboned, lucky my husband quick thinking we headed towards the bush. I will never get image out of my head of the vehicle heading straight at me. Lucky they had good breaks. So I agree why wouldn't you have a UHF is beyond me. Thanks Guys...Great episode yet again. Totally agree with Chris that a UHF is a must have whilst traveling. You can even buy a decent 5 watt hand held UHF if you don't want to hard wire one to the vehicle. That way you can also use it for some extra safety on hikes or other adventures away from the vehicle. Note: A UHF should not be you only source of emergency contact in more remote areas. I always carry a PLB with me as well.

Thanks again Miriam and Chris totally agree with your comments on the dangers of the dirt roads the cape is one of the worst places for idiots and accidents the speed they fly past you on the wrong side .As for camp etiquette I often wonder why people jam themselves in right up behind or in front of your car I’m thinking they are scared to be out there alone some times .Miriam you make us laugh with your antics this time with the melted butter trick probably something I would do as we live permanently off grid always concerned about power on bad days but I would more likely do damage to something while trying to invent a new way of doing things . Totally agree about the UHF Radio, we haven’t had time to fit one into our latest vehicle so are just using a 5w handheld GME until we get our vehicle mounted unit fitted. It works fine. I believe in general many people drive too fast on the gravel roads. If it’s a very good smooth gravel road than 80km/h if you are not towing should be your maximum. If you are towing then no faster than 70km/h. Drive to the conditions, you don’t know what is around the next corner. Sitting on a 100-110km/h thinking you are some kind of Finke Desert Racer is insane ! I'd rather cruise along the gravel road at a relaxed pace, enjoy the scenery and avoid the flat tyres, which costs you time and money.

We just watched your video of "What got him angry." we can so relate to that. We found a few idiots on the Gidd last year. We binged on your Karrajin trip , it has been fantastic. We did 7 mths last year in WA's North and 3 mths in the South, we have done many of the place you have seen and a few you didnt and you showed us places we missed, but hey thats why we are going back. As I have bilateral total knee replacements some of the hikes are a bit much for me so I didn't get to do then throw you and as my husband has Angina and a problem with heights especially if he sends me on ahead as he had to go back to the car as he forgot something, with out me by his side it gets a bit much for him with out me incourageing him to keep going, a bit like Chris dose for you😊. Unfortunately, that stops him at the first platform on the stairs to Fern Pool, which was spectacular. We did a lot and had a fantastic time and will be going back again but seeing you Miriam do the hikes we would have done when we were younger make us feel as though we are there with you. As we are in our very late 60's (Baby Boomers) some things for us are memories and wish we still could do it, saying that we are off to Cape York next year for Clayton's 70th birthday, can't wait. Keep up the great work. You are showing us places we couldn't get to and now feel like we have done it all. Thank you. Susan😊❤

Not sure mate but I have discovered with the 2 dcs in the truck and 2 dcs in our new van that it’s not keeping up. Definitely need a larger alternator in our next truck 👍🏼

This was only a demonstration of what can be done. We would only do this in desperation. We would only run it for an hour at a time. That’s 100amps of charge 👍🏼

Don’t let diesel just idle it’s the quickest way to glaze the bores basically because you’re just idling diesel is washing the bores then they become shiny

@@AussieDestinationsUnknownI am get mixed view on this. Cause being a truck engine it's designed to run all night. That's why you see truck stop all truckies sleep with the engine on. I set my PTO to run at 1300 to 1500 rpm cause diesel engine run the most ideal at that rev point and temperature oil and oil pressure up .

I wouldn't run my diesel car motor for 2 hours just idling to charge the van it will glaze up the cylinders in it and stuff the motor long turn , ok if you update ya car every 2 years , but normal people no way , even running at higher revs na still will stuff it

We’ve done this twice in the past couple of years - it’s there to get us out of trouble if we need it. No point carrying a generator and fuel to be used twice a year 😁

I am sure you have a wonderful system BUT what is the difference using a generator or starting your truck - Genny runs quieter than the big diesel mate - much cheaper in comparison (cost to supply your "sleepy genny")🤔

This is purely a demonstration of the versatility of our battery system. This is not something I do every day. In fact, it was the second time Ive ever done this. Why would a bother carrying around a heavy genny and another Jerry can of fuel.

The point is: that battery system probably ways the same as a Honda 2200 - you already carry extra fuel for your truck, either larger tank or jerry cans but you could've just had an anderson plug (would have fone the same job) while running your Big Generator (Truck) I just think it is hipocrtical - no gas, no fuel camping but starting up a Big Truck Generator to keep the "Green rig" going 🤔
