Off-Grid Living in a 5x 20ft Shipping Container Home

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

If you're a fan of shipping container homes, then this is a video tour you won't want to miss! In this weeks episode we meet Rosie, who has constructed an incredible off-the-grid home out of five 20ft shipping containers.
Rosie's home is situated in the middle of a spectacular conservation block and her beautiful modern shipping container home has been wonderfully designed to take full advantage of the beautiful surrounding landscape.
Best of all, this home is completely off the grid, with solar power, rainwater collection and even a vermi-composting toilet, meaning she will never need to see another power or water bill again.
We hope you enjoy the full tour of this brilliant shipping container home.

@@Laura-gd4ku Haven't you seen some of the videos on here? Some people have made forever tiny homes for about £3000. I mean being able to save that wouldn't be easy for me, but i do recognise that that is one of the cheapest a poor person could ever OWN a home for. It's only privileged if you're looking at this fancy big diy home, that's not a 'tiny house' in this video and thinking that's what this movement is, it's not. The actual tiny houses are, you see more of those in the USA, UK, France, and the latter two tend to be cheaper ones too, especially in the UK.

@@pcoristi What a great reply. Our son is headed off to Montana State this fall and first year is in a dorm. But after that, we would love to help him find alternative housing. Real estate has skyrocketed and made it impossible for locals to buy and stay and made it extremely difficult for all the University Students to find affordable housing. Kudos to Bozeman, Montana, for the new 6 acre First Village, a community of tiny homes which will be used as permanent housing for those experiencing homelessness, but it's unique and an isolated occurrence. It's getting approval by the state to place them in backyards and build multiple tiny villages, that is the problem and is holding back solutions to supply affordable housing for so many.

So quit your blabbering and let Rusty make their comment. No one asked you why you no longer live in the US... sounds like you just want to rant to everyone. And they said 5 words while you called them taking it to the extreme, while you used wayyy more words-hypocritical. This marvelous lady has put so much love in her house that it actually feels like a "home" in comparison to those marbles and rocks people invest in making villas just end up giving a commercialized feeling. I absolutely loved this.

I know! I have thousands of books and 95% of them read. The 5% are encyclopedias etc. on WWII, Game Farming, Art & DIY manuals, Animals, bugs, birds.. We downsized to a much smaller house. I want to get back to my farmland roots, but the cost of land plus a homestead is just too much. This idea can really work! When the world goes to hell in a basket and the internet disappears mankind will once again appreciate books. Bah, who wants/needs kindle? Folks, just remember to carry lots and lots of spares for everything and the less moving parts for things & tools etc. the better. The day might come when you can't hop down to the nearest shop. To me Tiny House and off grid means being really self-sufficient and prepped to go it alone for a minimum of 2 years. Here in South Africa life like this is becoming ever more of a future reality as our country has been bankrupted by the politicians, we are almost on our knees financially and infrastructure now almost non-existent. Bryce, thank you for this. Of all the tiny houses this one is truly practical for me and such an inspiration.

The tool cabinets as shelves is super clever. It's common for drawers of those be able to hold tons of weight (50kg), drawers can typically extend all the way out for easy access to the back of drawers, and the cabinets aren't too expensive. Definitely took some notes on this idea.
