I feel like memes started to die when Gen Z decided every meme was just going to be one of three text templates

They are a pretty bad set of memes for an era

So is a meme just anything that goes viral on the internet? Is there no other qualifications? Because I was always under the impression that the 2011 text based memes were the bases and foundation of memes lol I now know that’s not true, but what qualifies something as meme outside of just going viral? Because then what makes one thing that goes viral a meme and then something else that also goes viral NOT a meme?

Yeah, my impression of memes from this era was that it was a joke format that got repurposed for a lot of different situations, but nowadays “meme” seems to just mean “joke (online)”. Not that I think the old format was better (it sucked, I was just young enough that I still thought it was funny), but the word “meme” actually meant something specific and I knew what was being referred to when the word was used.

It’s funny because the 2011 and any other text based reaction memes a lot of my favorite lol So much, that anything not set up this way is confusing on if it’s a meme or not lol Most of these style of memes are still used today. In fact I see this style of meme a lot still. It didn’t have to be S tear, but any lower than a high B makes no sense to me lol

I liked Connor at first but the more I hear his shit takes the less I enjoy him

I don't know bout u guys, but these were the greatest meme era in my opinion ... They're still known now, newer memes dont come close ... 😂
