    Yeah when your company relies on a product like this and it only cost 3k-ish to buy for a few months you shoul be keepinng 6-9 months worth honestly. Let alone only having 15 buckets on order in October and only working on/solving that issue with only a few weeks time left before out of glue.

  • @LabTech41

    @@Remsster It's just the reality of a rapidly growing company where all the roles haven't fully gelled yet, plus you've got supply chain issues that are causing unprecedented shortages. That having been said, I wonder if they have an official 'sourcing and procurement' department head. As for stock, having been to the location myself, there might not be enough space to afford every item a 6-9 month supply to be on hand. If they had the metalworking space as well, they might, but as far as I know that's still in some weird limbo.

    Yo, Doug, I think you guys need to REALLY start looking at everything you use on a consumable basis like this and going for bulk buy. You guys going from 5 gal buckets to this bulk ton just saved y'all about $1553 on glue. When y'all were buying per pallet of glue, you were getting about 1,289 lbs of glue for about $2700. That's about $2.10 per pound. With a single container containing 2,458 lbs of glue, costing $3,595, that is now $1.46 per barrel. That's a 45% savings. So with Y'all going through that 27 Gallon pallet at about 1 every 2 months, You're spending about $16,200 per year. Going to 1 ton bulk now means You'll be going through about 3 of those per year. $11,311 per year. Yo, that savings is more than my car costs. Y'all need to be checking out what else y'all can buy in bulk....

    couldn't they change their joint design to be glue-less, press fit joint together while the wood is steam, so to speak ? that way you don't even need to worry about the supply of glue at all. Unless the cost of changing design is costing way more than hunting down potential glue supply.

  • @IMRifley

    @IMRifley

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@keenheat3335 No, actually. If you haven't watched their latest video, you should. You'll see exactly why they need so much glue. Most of it isn't for joining sections together, but actually for making the wood the size they need, because most of the slats aren't as big as you'd think.

  • @TrojanManSCP

    That's an IBC, or Intermediate Bulk Container. They're meant to hold industrial fluids (including fuel) in fork-liftable quantities that manage better than tanker trucks and fixed storage in industrial settings. That's a 275gal size, so your glue has an appx. 1.08 specific gravity assuming the fill level is right on. If 5gal is $100, you're looking at about $5500, not counting the cost of the container (about $650 from McMaster).

  • @PeteQuad

    As woodworkers I would hope they realize that not all glue is created equal. They may have different curing times, be stronger or less flexible, or more or less water proof. I initially pictured them attaching that thing to the wall and was like... concern. Then I saw their woodshop style platform and thought, well no one is walking under that so if it fails the container might not even break and no one will get squished so... okay.

    4:41 mark - my guesstimate on cost of the glue tank: - looks to be around 300 gallons worth - cost of a bucket of glue is $100 - the bucket itself probably costs around $20, assume $10 profit margin on the remaining $80, thus converted cost of material is $70 - 300 * $70 == $21k

    @@kgoblin5084 the $100 buckets are 5 gallons, so doing (300/5) * 70 = $4200, so not too far off the $3595
