The obvious influence is of course The Beastie Boys, but some nice shout-outs to Jurassic 5 and others too. Ren is an encyclopedia of hip-hop knowledge. And treats that knowledge with the utmost respect with his output. Genius.

I think that “sit the fuck down” part sounds almost like Fred Durst did a bit on the song, I think it’s intentional.

Yep definitely an homage to the Beasties with nods to other greats! This has been a fave since I first heard and saw it but I’m old and was around for the beginning of rap and have loved it since and have loved the Beasties since 1984! Love the fisheye camera work,scratching, flute, fits and the whole throwback vibe! 👏👏👏

The reason (IMO) Ren is so different is because you can't put him in a box as a "rapper". Most rappers pretty much rap over tracks created by someone else. I'm not criticizing because there is some great stuff out there. But Ren is a Musician/singer/song writer/producer who can also rap as technically as anyone. His pen is sharp bro. It's that deep musicianship and production skills the create a unique synchronicity between the words, music and production that is different from EVERYONE. Take note, I'm not saying better. Just different. Come at me bro!!!! HAHAHAHAHA!!!!! Swaggy, you rock!!!!!

I started getting into the rap/ hip-hop scene in the late 80's and early 90's. A time where the music and artists were actually talented, I agree 100% that todays rap is garbage for the most part. Bring back the REAL rap and hip-hop!

It must be extra difficult to record this stuff if you are always being asked to leave. To be honest, I’d be horribly embarrassed, but then I guess you have to get over that quickly if you are a performer. I’d love to walk into a parking garage or a supermarket and see these guys making their videos … 😊

They got to ruin stuff when four guys start running around the store without proper permission! This totally hits on flows throughout the "classic" days, though the core is TOTALLY Beastie Boys. Just a great, upbeat song to jam to!

They do a ton of rehearsing to do the one take videos. It's not just done on a whim.
