This Giant Tamiya R/C Car Is Every ‘80s Kid’s Dream!
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Jack takes a first look at the Tamiya Wild One Max: the latest creation of the Little Car Company. A faithful recreation of the iconic '80s remote-control car reborn as a drivable, road-legal two seater EV with serious off-roading capability, could this be the most wonderfully bonkers electric car we've ever featured on the Fully Charged SHOW?

I'm 48 and still a Tamiya fan and I can tell you, yes indeed, there is an immense amount of nostalgia seeing this! Amazing! 😃 I just hope if they do the kit version that it will come in the full-size Tamiya style box, box art and all! 🙂

@@FilofeiNomura-yk1bm Ah yeah, I was aware and am on a few Facebook Tamiya groups. It was more the joy of seeing a full sized "road legal" version of one (of many) cars I drooled over in the Tamiya brochure back in the 80's. And as Jack, the presenter, kept mentioning did it bring anyone (old enough) any nostalgia. I had the Frog back then as a kid, but picked up a few other kits a few years ago now, Lunchbox, Street Rover, Wild Willy 2. Sadly funds don't allow too much spending right now on the hobby, let alone this full sized version 😄
And then something comes along that just makes you smile 😊
They need to ship this in a big box with the sticker sheet 😂
The AA batteries for this are gonna be huuuge !

The sticker sheet needs to include a picture of some big AAs to stick on the battery packs. 😉
I had the Grasshopper as a kid, would love a full sized version as an adult 🤣
The Tamiya Hornet was the one I always drooled over in the 80s. :D
The prostate line was mean and hilarious. I loved it.
If they make the Hornet to self build, I'm definitely buying one

Yeah! Complete with gigantic parts trees that you have cut out with an angle grinder.
I normally am not a fan of electric full size cars. But in this case when its a remake of a classic rc car then it makes sense. Its awesome!
5:24 Those stick-on vents should have been a solar panel
I have the original 'wild one' right here, hand built by my dad and I in the 80s, at the time 'the hornet' was the much more popular choice, but I preferred the style of this one I'm happy to sell it if anyone wants it get in touch 😊

I owned the Hornet („Anytime, Baby“)
OMG - I wanted it /before/ I saw the sticker sheet, but that’s just icing on the cake. 😍
Love this. Especialy love the sticker sheet! Remember building by first Tamiya Boomerang 30+ years ago. I have still have a fully working Tamiya BigWig from the 80's in the cellar. Plan this winter is to upgrade the manual speed controller to an electronic one and install new radio gear.
Back in the late 80's an OG Wild One with a CCTV camera, siren and strobe, on an umbilical cord (pre-WiFi), helped get me into my M.O.D apprenticeship... Love what they've done... The body pins are GENIUS.... 👌
I had only the Tamiya catalogue and the catalogue itself was expensive! Couldn't afford one of the RC cars, anyway, the catalogue was neat and I loved it so much
3:45 Got possessed there for a second
The quality of the production of your videos is just *chef's kiss*
This is awesome! Waiting for the Tamiya Hot Shot to be made in 1:1... that would be even MORE awesome!
I assume the 14.4kWh was done on purpose to make it like the old 14.4v batteries.
Ear to ear smiling the entire video!
"because I'm so bloody young", just brilliant. "And by the way, if this video has filled you with nostalgia, this is your reminder to get your prostate checked", ha, bloody ha!
I didn't play with RC cars as a kid, but my brother did. And I believe he had one of these (or something like it). But even without playing with these... wow! What a dream to have one of these in the garage and take it out on summerdays. Great vid and you have a new subscriber!
😂 “If this does fill you with nostalgia, just a reminder to get your prostate checked.” Thanks for the PSA, Jack!
Love it! Really excellent faithful copy. Very clever. If they did the Tamiya Avante or Egress I would sell my house to get one! :D
⚡😮🤩⚡ *Road-legal,* wow 🤙🏼🤙🏼 Watchin Jack squeezin into that car was amazin 😂
oh this is fantastic! of course I want one.. and yes.. I know I need to go see my doc sometime. Now all we need is the Frog.
Wonderful - looking forward to the road test. Hope they do a Clodbuster next 😅
Absolutely great idea. I hope to see these being used to their limits sometime soon. Thanks for the introduction. 🙂👍
The entire car should come as kit, not just the stickers!
Modular battery is cool. So is the quadrocycle registration. Pull the battery and the steering wheel when you park and charge with wall socket convenience!
Jack got in to that like me getting in to a colleagues vx220 - thank goodness the steering wheel is removable!
I did not hear a word beyond the prostate joke because I was laughing so loud.
If they do the Tamiya "The Hornet" they will full fill a childhood dream of mine.
Being able to take the steering wheel off, and take it with you when you park up is a great anti theft idea. I WANT ONE
If they can do a self-assembled version (with the box others have mentioned) for about 60% of the price of the assembled ones, they'll sell a pile of them, plus at least one person will store one in the box unopened, and others will swap out the little motor for a Model 3 or Model S drive set and bigger battery.
I used to have one of those! I remember putting a bigger motor in it and completely knackering the gear box!😂😂
Hey Jack. Love your work 👍
Despite barely having interests in RC toy cars as a child, seeing a company produce an officially licensed life-sized drivable replica of an RC toy car kit reminded me of people who create life-sized replicas of fictional items from films and TV shows (particularly fictional cars). (2:08) Having watched toy reviews from KZread user 'leokimvideo' where he would apply the stickers included with toys to them using a pair of tweezers to help him get the alignment just right, I'm somehow imagining there being a giant pair of tweezers to apply the stickers using.
Ahhhhh.... The memories!
Nice!
Now you're getting the hang of this guy's. A wise philosopher once said "You don't win friends with salad". How right he was.
Love it!
Ok, now I need a massive pay rise. I LOVE this!
I love the switches. I doubt I could pretzel myself into one of those. Oh to be young again. And I agree with @markkiliff, solar panels would have been a great idea.
Love this video😂
To have it said, I am ONE MILLION PERCENT down for a 'build-your-own' kit version!!!

Jack, when you said the price I was surprised that it was that low. I mean it is for people with more money than most of us but yeah I can see why they would have already sold that first hundred.
I'm going to buy one of these and build a ramp in the middle of my street to jump over the neighbour's cat. Just like the old days!
Thank you
I will hold out for a full size recreation of my Clodbuster. I prefer a kit please.
Coolest thing I've ever seen
How about a Tamiya Fox next or perhaps a HotShot.? But if someone made my absolute favourite I'd consider taking out the sizeable bank loan , The Kyosho Turbo Optima 🤩
Grasshopper 2 was the one!
Indeed, I was expecting an RC car from that size. (Since there are gigantic scale models of RC planes). Nevertheless, this real-size adaption is great, as well. Lovingly realized. 🥰👍 My brother and I had such RC model back then, maybe it was this one, not sure anymore.
Does it also increase in value threefold when it remains packed in his box?
Where can I buy the motor and battery combos, seems perfect for classic car mods
Still got my original 80’s Wild One in a box in the loft…..
My childhood wish upon that star has been granted!
Nice Jack but when will you reviewing the new Lotus Eletre? Rimac Nevera as well while i remember?
Please make the Lunchbox next!!!!
Should have been a Frog !!! Still one of the best RC racers EVER!!! And thanks for asking, my original Ni-Cads are fine!!! (1980's Tamiya RC joke) as it my prostate.
Blimey. They should go to town on these with the options -- it'll be their cash-cow I reckon, especially if they can be made road legal. Never mind the latest supercars, this is up on the same level of coolness as something like a Lamborghini Countach, and all the kids will flock to this. Had my first prostate exam on Friday.
It needs the wheels real bad. It’s sooooo nearly perfect it seems rude not to :D
Let me know when they do the Lunchbox version 😂😊
Great review as always, my biggest takeaway is anybody can make an EV now, those legacy ice manufacturers better be afraid
Tamiya R/C buggies were FAST, at 72bhp per tonne for this thing we are talking 1980s Ford Escort 1.3L performance lol
I had this RC when I was a kid...but it was in the 90s not 80s
Depending on the cost, I suspect this might be success on the experience market.
As someone who was unfortunate enough to live through the 80s, I'd say Tamiya's Grasshopper was far more iconic. At least in the UK.
I bought one of my first pay check!
Okay let's be honest here. This was completely inspired by season 4 Grand Final of Scrapheap Challenge. Go on, ask Robert.
If they make The Frog I'm selling a kidney....
Love it. What would be the best is if the steering wheel was replaced with RC sticks. 35 Grand?? I wish I had somewhere to drive it off road. That's almost tempting. Someone should buy a few and offer experience days.
Jack needs a mannequin for scale, all the cars look tiny compared to this tall lad.
I want that!
Great vid, i hope this reaches the non EV car people to get them interested. Im thinking bigger battery and Teslaswap myself 😈⚡️🔋
just needs the big ariel

Awesome
They have to do the VW Beetle next. Sadly I don't have £35k but I would defo rent one for the day.
But will it go from full forward to full reverse to change directions?
If i buy this is a kit, will all of the parts be held together with big plastic rods like the rc version.
That's an interesting school run car
They should do a midnight pumpkin next
hopefully there will be no sign on the box that says "Batteries not included" ;)
It would work better for somebody my size.... 5'4".
Give me the Jet Hopper!!!
Fun... thank goodness that it is not a £100,000 car.... £35k is a sum that might be considered by quite a few.... 👍👍👍

@@ensteffo The issue is the lack of production scale... 'small runs' of anything tend to be more expensive because the fixed costs are spread over fewer products.
@mikadavies660

@ensteffo It is a low production vehicle. Ford are loosing $40,000 on each F150 just because they have low numbers and inefficient build. This might cost 25k to 30k build. Add a small profit and that's it.
Thank you, Jack - prostate duly checked... 😵💫
A tall man squeezing into a toy car, welcome to the future
This is literally the ONLY EV that makes any sense. A gimmicy toy.
Surprised they didn’t make a Hornet!
This doom buggy screams "Look at me" !
