My favorite type of photography is the night time! Especially with bright lights! Happy to have you back!
Nice to see your updated gear! I currently got the A7iii, 6400 and Zv-e10 with a lens collection of sigma 24-70mm, Sony 55mm Zeiss and Sigma 16mm.
Yes!!! So glad you’re back
love your book and videos! glad your back, recently I've been loving manual focus with voitglander 40 f1.2 on nikon zf
Tamron 20-40mm f/2.8 has been a workhorse for me ever since it came out. So much lighter than a 16-35 which makes it a joy to carry around.

Glad you're back! I'd love to see some videos on your favorite neighborhoods/areas of Tokyo to shoot street in. I've done the typical Ginza, Asakusa, Shinjuku, and Shibuya and would love to branch out! Another cool idea would be exploring the B&W side of street photography. I've recently taken an interest to B&W, going over some my fav photos, trying to edit and B&W, and trying to find/view compositions that would work well in B&W when I'm out shooting. Regardless of what you post, I'll be here watching. Thanks for everything!

I agree with the A7C/CR/Cii with the pancake lens, it really feels like a compact/point and shoot. If the best camera is the one you have with you, this combination certainly helps alot.
14mm 1.8 (best lens for street photography where you want to emphasize architecture, capture broad spaces) 24-70 sigma (for everything, also single lens to take for traveling into cities doing street, architecture) 85mm 1.4 sigma (for street, portraits and even landscapes sometimes, if I want to travel light) 35-150 tamron (as a strange 70-200 alternative, while being able to carry a single lens) 200-600 (for wildlife, great compression on landscapes, even sometimes street photography, for the fun of it) a7iv. (best budget camera that has birdie autofocus)
My go-to kit is the Canon 250D with either the 15-85 for it's versatility or the 40mm 2.8 for it's compactness. Both with Hoya mist filters. While it's certainly showing it's age, this kit is still serving me very well.

The efs 15-85mm lens was my favourite. Honestly I think I prefer it over the EF 24-105mm. But i reluctantly sold it as I no longer have a crop sensor
Great video! I’m looking to upgrade from my tamron 28-75 f2.8. I feel like the sharpness is something I’d like more out of. I’m considering a gmaster 16-35, but I’m interested to explore other options that’s provide the best possible results for the money
I recently got an insta360, and I’m really interested in what your filming and editing process look like.
Glad that you are back.

Would love to see a video or even a series where you review and analyse your own or other people's photos and give your thoughts on improvements/changes that would make them even better!
Hi Pat, loved the video! Very jealous of that A7Rv🔥I currently shoot with an A6700 combined with a 35mm 1.4 GM, but also added the 18-50 and 56 Sigma lenses to the setup. Really missing my old Fuji x100f but was unconvinced by the latest vi update so am about to order a Leica Q3 to see what it can do! Cannot wait to see the next video/podcast! Cheers!
Still rocking an a7iii with the OG Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 (I mostly shoot food so I don’t need the fastest AF) and have a Ricoh GR IIIx for when I don’t want to lug my camera bag around. Usually have a pocket sized LED light as well which lets me shoot at low enough ISO.

Perfect combo!
Hi, great video, and super helpful! What mic are you using for talking head vids like this one?
Running the fuji xh2s with 16-55 zoom. But given the chance to start all over again, will most likely wait for the a1 mark 2 and use 16-35 as well. Another possible combo is the zv-e1 and x100vi
I love these updates ❤

Nice!
Nice update. I finally got a 200-600 G for my motorsports needs and its been great for me. Between the 70-200 G2 and that on my A7IV I think its been so much easier to get keeper shots than my years on my old A77 II SLT camera at events. Modern AF is cheat code... I've also been trying to figure out what is a good GRIII/X100 style camera for cheap. I tried a NEX5N with either a Sony 20f2.8 or a TTA 27f2.8, but I just hate the shooting experience on the NEX-5N even if the images are not bad at all. I guess I am spoiled by much better interfaces. I still use my RX100IV but I just wish it has bigger sensor....
@patkay

Oh man I really like that 200-600 G. Must be a joy to use!
Manifesting a update to the RX series 🙌 boy I remember way back when you lived and died by the 16-35 and used to say the 24-70 was too good/convenient of a focal length its all come full circle haha
I love my 35mm f2.8 Zeiss on mr a7cii…..lovely little lens and cheap too….

Amazing combo! That lens was actually my very first Sony lens. I have a huge soft spot for it hehe.
I just grabbed a used A7Rii to pair with my a6500, but I’ve still never used a current-gen camera like your A7RV. I’d love to see you do a video comparing older and newer cameras in real-life scenarios. What improvements in autofocus, sensors, processors, etc. would a hobbyist really notice? Just an idea. Love your videos!
Keeping it very simple with an A7C and Sony 85/1.8 or 35/1.8 combo for all my photography needs, occasionally whipping out the Sirui 50/1.8 anamorphic for some cinematic photos if I’m feeling kinda adventurous. Wouldn’t mind a telelens but I’ve no real reason to purchase besides just really wanting one lol Since upgrading to the iPhone 15 pro, I’ve been exclusively using it for all my video needs which has been great so far

A perfect combo tbh!
The shutter button on those bodies are replaceable?
I started YEARS ago in Film. Finally got into digital with a Sony NEX-7. Now carry an A7C/EV-E10 and (thanks to you) a RX100v7. Now saving up for and looking at a A7R V or perhaps an A2 (if it comes out soon). However, my glass is primarily a mix of APSC Sony & Zeiss Touit lenses. With the addition of the A7C I acquired a Zeiss 55/1.8 and FE G lenses. The 20-70G and PZ16-35G never left my camera during my last two visits to Japan… I primarily shoot landscape stills, no video (yet). Next visit is in November. SO, I HAVE A QUESTION… In your OPINION: should I upgrade my lenses to GM lenses first or upgrade my camera body to an A7R V to take advantage of the higher resolution for my current lenses? Unless I win the lottery, I can only do one or the other.
Only half way in, but our kits are so similar! I am rocking the 70-200gm ii, 24-70 gmii & 16-35 gm ii with both the A1 & Aiii. Totally agree that the 24-70 is also my most used go to lens. Can legit do anything and everything 😝🚀
I’ve had my a7s iii since pre order. Got the rx100 vii at the end of April. Sold my Sigma lenses over the past 2 years so now I have the 20mm g f1.8, 16-35mm g f4 pz and since April a 70-200mm g master f2.8

I love all of your vids, from photo shoots, post-processing to photo-philosophy. I really enjoyed your "POV street photo series" but I think it would be interesting to see you tackle some photography genre that you don't mainly do, to see how you apply your experiences in those settings. Let's see you handle a concert or an event, or a photoshoot with some models. Let's see you having to go in and direct your scene :)
You have all the Sony collection! hehhe: I rock the A7iv + 24-70 GM ii &50mm 1.4 GM. I also pair the a6700 w/ 20mm f1.8 (kind of 28mm street camera set up)... although the 40mm it's also in the collection for street

I wish canon would release new versions of their gx powershots, those sony pocket cameras are looking juicy for a walk around camera.
I be interested with your A7CR set-up. As someone who is using the A7Cii, I'm interested in other people set-up. I'm trying to improve my set-up, so I can take pictures/videos with ease.
@patkay
Ай бұрын
I like the R vs the Cii for the APS-C Crop Mode actually! It makes the camera much more versatile in my opinion!
Hoping to see more videos soon. Also good job on outsourcing the editing, always frees up enormous amounts of time. I'm using some entry level stuff while trying to improve my skills, and waiting to see if I can throw $500 into this hobby for a new lens yet. Currently ZV-E10 with the kit lens 16-50mm. Though I wish the setup was even more compact than this. And being bad at photography that I am, coupled with the fact that I'm not doing it professionally, to me cameras like the Ricoh GR line look very appealing.
@patkay
Ай бұрын
There's something to be said about compactness for sure. But what you've got already is honestly such a great combo that will take you all the way if you want it to!
@watching-youtube-now
Ай бұрын
@@patkay there's some bottlenecks in this setup unfortunately. The biggest one being that there's no "minimum shutter speed" setting for the aperture priority mode, so I'm shooting all manual all this time (just approaching 10k photos total), and also there's no IBIS so it limits the lens choice unfortunately. I wish I had splurged out on a 6700 instead, but we'll see how far this ZV-E10 goes anyway.
I'm partially new to the game but i don't go to any job without the 16-35 pz the 50 2.5 g and the 85 1.8. I do want to buy the 85 1.8 Zeiss or the g master in the future. If Sony comes out with a new 50 1.8 i would jump on that as well as the old version is horrible. (Edit, I always forget about they 24-70 sigma lens. I use it mostly for photos but it's also great for video)

I use to coach baseball at a pretty high level and my players were always looking for the “best bat” to make them better hitters. I always smiled and told them that great hitters can get results with mediocre equipment, but poor hitters can’t improve their results with the most expensive equipment. Improve technique!

Yep, agree. But also once you become as good a hitter as you can become, having a better bat might take you from good to great.
@rfern263

@@patkay Not really. A piece of equipment just sits there. Knowing how to get the best out of it takes skill. Skilled individuals can achieve greatness without needlessly spending money on stuff they think will take them to the next level. It won’t. Unless your camera is more than ten years old it’s a waste of money. A few more megapixels, or the latest bells and whistles won’t turn a good photographer into Ansel Adams. It’s folly to suggest it will.

Christ.. Any lenses that you DON'T have??
No hate and appreciate the attention to detail but I found using two lenses that cost over €4.5k together just to get a bit creamier backgrounds on a podcast (!) insanely hilarious. Podcasts are so overproduced these days, most people don't even look at the video and have their phone in their pocket, hell Joe Rogan's podcast looks like it's recorded with a toaster, yet he's the most successful one out there. It looks good, don't get me wrong, but it's very over the top for an audio-first product. Hell, even if it wasn't audio-first, most people wouldn't care if you shoot at 1.2 or 1.8 as long as the lighting is good.
I either rent cameras or if I'm tight on cash for that month (which is quite common when you have to replace your fineliners for the 30th time that month because architecture student innit 🥲) I would just use my phone camera because it can also shoot RAW and it's pretty easy to get creative with the camera lenses 😅
