Always adjust the fan curve for the laptop before gaming. or set it to gaming mode or whatever so the fans ramp up properly. otherwise if it's waiting to ramp the fans up until you hit 99C, then you're still losing performance. fans should be at 100% @ anytime over 80C.

and remember for most laptops the GPU and CPU share a heatsync, so allowing the fans to work more, will improve the cpu and gpu.

I'm running my 11400h with 2 disabled cores to reach higher all core turbo frequiencies at 4.3ghz with my overclocked 3060 MSI GF66 katana. The bottom cover is super bad designed since it covers the fan intake. Either take the backcover off or do as I did and cut the plastic off so it can recieve fresh air. I went from 95c to about 75 degrees. Also lift the computer up a bit does a huge difference.

I got the 15.6” model, i7 11800H cpu, 3070 GPU (85w) and it’s very good at 1080p. Cost £850, plus I spent £150 on another 2tb ssd. The cpu runs too hot though (90-100 degrees) even at low loads. It’s unacceptable and not good in the long term. So, I changed the settings to 99% max usage on the cpu, so it wouldn’t turbo-charge to full power. That keeps the temps down and my fps still seem fine.

It is super underpowered for the cpu making the specs rather imbalanced, if they made them with a 12400 it would make more sense. The nearest Micro center to me is a three and a half hour drive each way, in Atlanta Ga. I hate driving in Atlanta, not to mention the driving time, so no Micro Center in store deals, and many of their products are for in store pickup only, and cannot be purchased online. For electronics, especially computers, my choices are Newegg, or Amazon. Thank you for all the teasing, and disappointment Micro Center. Until there is a store near me, Birmingham, Montgomery, Oxford, you will not be getting my business.

That i7 hitting 94 degrees Celsius while only using 30% is insanely bad. Gaming is usually a pretty light load compared to benchmarks and other programs that really use more of all cores on the cpu so the fact it’s hitting 93 degrees Celsius is not good at all.

@AntonEugeneLanthier i think 12 inches is the perfect size to carry around, i just need them to be powerful enough to play games at 720p 120hz on ultra settings. I play mostly rts games like Starcraft or Age of Empires, not really asking too much.

ik this is purely anecdotal, but everyone i know that has owned an msi laptop has had issues with it within a year. their build quality feels absolutely terrible, I've tried a few of their laptops and the hinges feel like they would snap if you breathed on them too hard.

Question: Is there ANY way to turn off the keyboard lights? This and the bad screen are my major dealbrakers. EDIT: Wait, this is the 17 inch version. How come the 15.6 inch version is soooo different in terms of screen quality and non-matte finish look? I don't understand.

I don't know if this applies to this laptop, but in mine (a 15.6 I believe) it's the FN button and then either PGUP to turn the lights on and PGDN to dial it down a bit or turn it off altogether. Although I do have to mention it's not usable without the lights on, at least for me, you need to be in direct sunlight to be able to use it while it's off (that's if you need to look while typing that is)

IdeaPad gaming 3.(2021) Is the best budget laptop right now. The new IdeaPad model is a bit overpriced right now. But just be careful when buying you don't buy a model with a crummy 11300h cpu. Always go for a 5600h or a 11400h. Should cost the same as a trashy 11300h or be 10$ more expensive.

The problem of theses MSI laptops (GL or GF) of this generation is the hinges... they screw automaticly when you open and close the laptop and break the shell or the sreen. They have good specs tho but keep in mind MSI's laptops are REALY fragile .😑 And the CPU is overheating frequently if you don't clean it frequently... that's why they are cheap
