This Fort Design Changed *Everything*

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The history of Star forts is super interesting - they sit in Europe (and around the world; look at St. Augustine) as visual artefacts of a literal Medieval/Renaissance arms race. Learning about them teaches us about technological innovations that ended the medieval period and created the groundwork for the modern era. It also shows how crucial the cannon was as an invention of late medieval warfare.
Ayooo, thanks for watching.

I would like to add another thing, castles are residences for lords, effectively fortified houses, while fortresses are military structures, built and maintained by the state

A note about the shape of the Pentagon in the US: it was originally meant to be built on a different plot of land in another location, which was pentagon-shaped. The building was designed to fit exactly within the pentagonal plot of land to maximize the amount of floor space they can fit on that land. Later on, after the building was already designed, they decided to move it to a different piece of land (its current location today). They didn't want to waste money designing a whole new building so they just took the plans they already had for the pentagonal-shaped building and plopped it there instead. The building's shape was *decided entirely* by the shape of the land it was originally meant to be built on and nothing else. I believe there are also some ideas that its shape was meant to withstand an atomic blast or something like that, but that's not true either. It's entirely just a weird historical quirk related to old property lines and nothing else.
