This event was the last straw for me.

It seems that there is no goldilocks zone for smash commentary, you’re always doing something wrong. TK has had enough, and he’s telling you exactly how he feels.

I love your commentary style, you and Coney and Charles add a layer of "not taking it too seriously" maturity that makes it fun to watch the sweatiest of games. People who play smash at the highest level sometimes have difficulty connecting with a wider audience socially and it makes is really difficult for casual people to consume and watch the game they love. You guys help bridge that gap. Talk your shit! You've more than earned it.

Totally agree with everything here, it's incredibly frustrating when people want to dismiss/criticize what is your professional trade and life's work, especially when there's nothing they bring to the table. To your point on leniency in Melee commentary compared to Ultimate, I think it really boils down to average viewer age and what they believe they're entitled to. Melee scraped by for years with simple 240p vids with blown out mic commentary that lacked a professional air (IMO this is what makes smash iconic) so their viewer base sees how far they've come and knows how good they have it, on top of just being generally older and more mature. Ultimate on the other hand, while still having a healthy number of older viewers, also served as a gateway into Smash for a lot of kids, like actual children, who never were exposed to the olden days of smash commentary and don't know how good they have it. On top of this, they've got more free time to be on social media and less of an understanding of what they're really even complaining about in the first place. People say stupid shit when they're kids, and while it can be hard to separate the uneducated from the genuine trolls, it all blends together to create the discourse we have today. Keep doing you TK, you're a staple in the industry, a certified GOATed commentator, and someone who tells it like it is. Long time viewer and listener, first time commenter, but thought I'd give my take :)

I can't remember if you were commentating during the Leo vs Dabuz, but that was some of my favorite commentary ever! • @drakejoshofficialyoutubech5569

I feel like the Smash community suffers from having a silent majority of people who are chill and just love to play the game while having a vocal minority of people who are just unbelievably negative and toxic, who want nothing more than to bring others down. I think part of this stems from sites like Twitter and Reddit basically encouraging people to take really extreme stances on things, and people not caring/calling you a meat rider when you post something positive about someone. Twitter and Reddit users who use the site too much also seem to have a bit of a disconnect from reality and will see commentators less as a person with feelings and more as just a talking head that they're free to criticize without much push back.

As someone who doesn't know anything about Smash but really enjoy watching Smash matches I have to say that watching those matches with commentary it's great, listen your reactions to good plays explaining why that play is amazing it's just very fun, and even when you talk about anything else is fun too, I think it just feels better to watch something with someone, and it feels like that. Just don't take people on twitter or Reddit or any social media serious, some of them are really a cancer growing bigger and bigger every year, I don't use Twitter very often, but every time I log in there's a stupid discussion and people talking shit to each other, every fucking time. I know it's hard to do when your job need you to know stuff about events and players, but learning what is useful to you in social media and ignoring anything else will make your life and job so much easier and relaxing. Hope you find a way to enjoy doing what you love! Good luck!

We had a little fun local at my uni and the matches without commentary were straight up boring, so I tried commentating a little and it was pretty fun! I was trying a little more analytical approach, going like “oh, that was a nice punish” or “I don’t think that character is fast enough to make that edgeguard”, but I noticed some people were actually paying attention to the match because I was commentating, and that was nice. Then it was my turn to play and a guy said “hey, can I commentate?” and I said “sure, go ahead!”. He was struggling a bit with analysis, so I just turned to him and said “man, go for the hype” and his eyes shined and his commentary was really really fun! I was playing Loser’s Finals, Grand Finals and True Finals back to back to back, and I got so hyped I actually won the tournament! But all this goes to say, I think commentary is essencial to the game and all commentary is good commentary as long as the commentator is having fun. Personally, I love hearing TK’s commentary on sets, I just like it a lot, but most people should just be glad they even get to have commentators, especially top commentators

As somebody who's done commentary at a local level from a more analytical view, I understand those who want the game to be discussed more. That being said, Blast zone (TK, EE, Coney) are my favorite commentators, especially for events like summit/invitationals, because they know what they're talking about when they are talking about the game, but they actually have personalities too. If you listen to league commentary, its more stiff, and the best moments to me are when the commentators loosen up a bit. Gotta have that mix. One thing i will criticize most commentators on is missing or not talking about the small details that are bigger, to alert the viewers of what and why. In this aspect, Charles does the best easily. So the ludwig invitational had a little bit of everything and i watched every second of it, to EE's chocolate cringing to Coney's dog pissing to tk and charles holding it down, as well as ludwig not knowing shit about ultimate and hazmat nutting over riddles and asimo. Shit was a great experience as a viewer and the fucking twitter goblins need to chill the fuck out. It why i deleted twitter a long ass time ago lol. Idk if you'll read this TK but you're easily the best mix of chill and professional, reigning in EE when you have to and loosening up charles when he gets too technical lmao. These are assumptions based on my viewing experience, maybe I misplaced the individual commentators attributes a little, but hopefully my point was clear: you're good man :)

The absolute peak commentary in ultimate is EE, coney and TK. It will never be a bad time with those three on the mic bouncing off each other. I always wish GF has some combination of those three.

I think the amount of time between people wanting something and being able to have it has been shrinking to the point that it's so short now, that people have developed these rediculously high expectations for human created content that are completely unrealistic. You are not entitled to FREE shit being exactly the way you want it exactly when you want it to be that way. Y'all gotta relax and be grateful for what you have, and have the humility to understand that the ability to interact with different human beings and watch games and stuff is a privilege in and of itself. You'll be much happier if you can learn to just sit back, let the stuff you don't like go and enjoy the stuff you do like. We'll all eventually go crazy if we stay hyper focused on addressing, criticizing and scrutinizing every little detail of the things we don't like. It's not healthy for anyone 99 times out of 100.

TK you're awesome bro, and you do great work. It sucks that people have nothing better to do than complain. I thoroughly enjoyed the fact you were being honest throughout this whole video! I look forward to hearing more commentary from you in Ultimate's future!

for what it’s worth, i barely watch smash, mostly just look at GRSmash highlights, i’ve always liked your commentary when i see it one thing that bothers me as a casual viewer is when casters talk over the players in the moments when the players talk. other than that, big fan of the profession. TLDR: good job, keep it up, thanks

On one hand, TK is spitting facts. He's a GOAT commentator for a reason, he should do what he does. On the other hand, he shouldn't get so tilted over a couple sub-humans (redditors) that don't like him. He's above this. Smash commentary has been great for a long time.
