Yeah it would be different if it was forgotten in a garage for years and you just got it, but to be in the hands of a dealer and just broke down. I kinda feel the same way.

Yeah but it's not a Rolls, it's a tool that was used for a purpose and is more of a piece of history than a functional watch. I'd absolutely buy a car like that if it had the same kind of history

I think it’s more of the equivalent “barn find”. Like when a completely original Porsche Speedster was found in a barn, completely unmolested. Ya it wasn’t running but it’s a piece of history.

Actually, if I walked into a Rolls dealership in Beverly Hills, Dubai or another top-tier location, and there was a Rolls there in the middle of the showroom and there was a "special" Rolls there not serviced etc and they didn't want to service it... ya I would think that was a 1/1 Rolls.

That feeling of seeing your grail for the first time man. Nothing beats it! I had the same feeling when I was collecting shoes and bought my all time grail. Beautiful!

As a horologist I must say the comex is a one of a kind. Now that's a dive watch I'd love to have,and how cool all of the mission papers are there !

Wow brings back memories as I used to work on a rig with comex divers all sat and air divers

There’s zero excuse for not servicing that watch and conserving it properly. It’s not some antique that benefits from patina, it’s a precision instrument which needs maintaining. If I could afford it, I would pick someone with expertise and good reputation and service it….and wear it….just not in the streets of London (innit?😂)

It’s known as a “survivor piece” it’s impressive because rarely does something this rare “survive” without damage or replacement parts and still essentially function. If you were to take it apart it would lose that survivor tag and become reconditioned. It’s just another way of being an enthusiast. Cars are similar since it’s rare to find an untouched antique car.

Beautiful watch the history behind the 5514’s is interesting basically they added helium escapes valves to the watch because at greater depths helium kept getting stuck in the cases. And to have the papers and docs makes this much greater.

Yeah, I think this is just a clear example of the extreme end of it. Similar to the car collector who has a hundred historic cars in a warehouse. Not my taste but to each their own.

It doesn’t. Automatic and Mechanical watches NEED to be serviced or else they stop working. The jewels that act as pivot points for all of the clockwork have a very thin oil on them for lubrication. Over time that oil will dry up and the watch stops keeping time. Polishing scratches out could potentially lower the value of the watch had a great provenance, like this one does, as it ruins the story associated with the watch. Imagine buying a car and the salesman tells you “This car traveled across country 600 times, and it’s never had the oil changed. Also, it’s never been cleaned, and the door doesn’t open. But I have the original bill of sale for the car, so it’s amazing.” 😂
