Hey James , have you ever planted the small little cloves of garlic an grown them very close together. Pull them when they get the size of a green onion . They are great . Just chop them up like you would a green onion an you have the garlic flavor for stir fry or soups an stew.
Our 2 year old son has just harvested the last carrots of the year, he loves it in the garden 🙂 Also he independently recognised a volunteer lettuce, and said 'lettuce' amid the spinach patch! Made me so proud. We're planting garlic today. These are invaluable lessons I'm so happy to be able to teach my son ❤🥬🍅🥕

Great way to start kids eating healthier and teaching them to be self-sufficient. My nephew started by planting seeds with my mom at 2 years old, and loved to pick vegetables for his soup. He always ate all his veggies growing up.

He'll remember that and it'll stay with him throughout his lifetime. I grew up that way. Learning so much just by watching, helping. I'm thrilled that he already knew the lettuce from the spinach! ❤
Tuck and his carrots! I could watch him all day.

Yes Tuck is enjoying his carrots. So adorable. Wonderful you help him get his snacks from the garden. So cute! Thanks for the Garlic planting tips! Hope you have a great harvest of big tasty Garlic in June or July!
Tucks ears and carrot crunching is irresistible. ❤️
I just love how tuck enjoys fresh vegetables.
Inchelium is pronounced inch-el-ee-um, I live in Washington where that variety was discovered here in the small town of Inchelium located on the Colville Indian Reservation that I am from. It is a great garlic. We are growing it here too, as well as a couple hardneck varieties that are Spanish Roja and Romanian Red. I love your channel, a lot of great information every video. Thank you.

Is it too early to plant it in the Seattle area? It's been down to 29 degrees a couple times but typical weather will be mid-30s and above except for some cold fronts.
Tuck is just the cutest little guy. What a great little helper in the garden!
Long live Tuck! Everything must be Tuck-approved!

Agreed!!!
By the way, the garlic scapes are delicious when sauteed or used as garlic is used, and gives an early garlic flavor while you're waiting for the bulbs to develop. So it's somewhat worthwhile in my estimation to let it grow but not to get even close to flowering.
I mulch them with straw, and in the spring the garlic shoots right through the straw to grow healthy bulbs. The straw keeps the weeds out through the summer growth.
"Whaaat's going on!"...lol...you crack me up every time with your cheerful greeting! Love your idea, I will try it next year.

Little tuck really makes the video..He’s just so lovable cutest little thing ever🙋🏿♀️🙋🏿♀️..Thanks for the video I learned a lot..🙌🏽🙌🏽
Just found your videos a couple days ago. You and Tuck are inspiring to Phantom pup and I. Btw; it’s “Inch-uh-Liam.” At least according to the town about an hour north of me in Washington State.
I love wen tuck harvests his own veggies!
Since I love fresh garlic so much it makes economic sense to grow my own. Recently I tried fermenting some in raw honey. Great stuff for chest congestion. My favorite snack is grated cheddar with mayo, at least one crushed clove (depending on the amount of cheese). I add some Italian seasoning. Makes a great spread on saltines. Now and then I mix in some sriracha when in the mood for spice.
I planted some organic soft neck garlic that I bought from my local grocery store. I went organic because I heard the other garlic could be treated to prevent growth so not to grow in the store. They have small green stems popping up about 2 inches tall. This was my first time. I can't wait for spring. I hope I get lots of garlic to share.
James, could you do a video on where to order garlic, onions, berries, fruit trees etc online? There are so many places but would love to hear your favs! Gabby

I ordered a ton of fruit trees and berry bushes from Stark Bros nursery and they all have done great. I know in some of his vids he references Rain tree nursery. Other than that you can search your areas for nurseries and also check Facebook marketplace. I found homesteaders super close that were selling fruits, veggies and trees at very low prices. You might be surprised how many growers are in your area.

I've had great success with Filaree Garlic Farm, and am also trying Keene this year. Waiting for potato onions to come back in stock at Filaree. I tried a variety of garlic one year, and Persian Star was a hands down favorite me.

A quick way to separate hardneck garlic: hit the neck on a hard surface and the root end will pop off. Thank you for your videos 😊
Precious Tuck ♥ ! Zone 4 Canada, planted 210 cloves this fall. Half on Sept 30 and half on Oct 3. Cultivars are : Majestic, Susan Delafield, Great Northern, Red Rezan. We like garlic.

Here on Vancouver island last night, as the tradition goes, we celebrated Thanksgiving with friends. We had a nice dinner where we shared with each other our vegetables, berries and fruits in delicious various recipes. It was a feast! Everything, but the turkey, came from our gardens. Thank you for your great gardening lessons, James. They inspired me and my husband all kinds of planning in our backyard. Plus, your abundant joy overflows in our gardens :-) God bless you!
Hi sir im from the uk .i built the raised bed with the cover .in june this year .my husband made it .and its amazing .everyone loves it .thank u.
I love planting the smallest garlic cloves for the continuous harvest of their greens! :D
Hi James and Tuck, I have just found your channel and I love it. Tuck is an amazing little friend and so well loved by you and you can tell he adores his daddy. I really hope I can try some of your advice soon we live in zone 7 in Alabama. You have a very pleasant voice and a great teacher. Thank you so much from Bama
Worth noting that scapes can be eaten. Stir fry seems to be the usual suggestion. But don't leave it too late to remove them or they'll become tough & fibrous and most unpalatable. I know from experience; I'm not going to leave them until too late next year.
you bring smile to peoples faces

I’m so happy to have found your channel about a week ago. I watch a few every morning, and get motivated. This is my new happy place! For the record… i love Tuck ❤️, and i appreciate you spotlighting him. Such a champion. And i DO learn something from each of your episodes. I am using many of your ideas (garlic & tomatoes), leaf mulch, hooped garden beds, pallets… i am so busy and excited. I have always loved playing in the dirt at home, and i feel like i have harnessed and zoomed into some great ideas. 👩🏼🌾🍓🥕🍎🥬🍅
I'll try this next year

So far you have had the best information on planting garlic. Tuck is such a good dog and has a healthy diet with all those vegetables that he eats.
I love your energy and expertise! You and Tuck are the best!
Always love your posts! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and ideas, and of course, Tuck!
We continue to learn so much by watching you. I really enjoy that sometimes it is about the gardening, sometimes making own soil, sometimes its building something (loved the pallet to raised bed). I'm starting to realize that what you are teaching us is about a lifestyle and I really appreciate that. Love you and Tuck - hope he's feeling better. Hearts for him! ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
I didn't realise that I should mulch the garlic over the winter. Thanks for the heads up. Always something new to learn. Hi Tuck!!!❤
I love this channel, you get to the point & have a lot of good information & enthusiasm. Thank you!
I'm thinking about trying garlic in a grow bag- figure it can't hurt to try! Wish me luck! Thanks for the smiles I get just watching Tuck munch on carrots in the garden😀!
Hi James and Tucker! I love your videos. Keep doing the great job you’re doing! I love your energy, it makes me smile and want to be in the garden.

Hello James and Tuck! Planted my garlic today, woo hoo! Also emptied my two compose barrels to check progress (started in the winter) I am amazed at the volume ready to use. Black gold! So gratifying. Love your videos and learn so much.
I love this. I grow my garlic beside tomatoes never thought of integrating it. I see the beautiful rosemary my favorite herb in the carrot patch and so enjoy Tuck crunching on that carrot. That is just amazing! He will probably live to be 25 with his amazing diet!
Love that Tuck enjoys the garden as much as you.
Purrfect timing thanks!!!
Thank you James, since I’ve found your channel you’ve been a reliable reminder for my own Jersey garden tasks. Today’s a great day to get my garlic in too. Thanks from Tom’s River :)

Glad to hear that Sang Mai Thanh, me and Tuck love sharing what we are doing in the garden!
I really love the scapes. Great to add to salads and soups and stir fries. I have a 4x4 bed that has Thyme and Parsley . I let the Parsley go to seed. Raise it mainly for the bugs and birds.
Nice too see an American living in the British Channel Islands doing such good gardening
I love your energy!
Thank you heaps of info. It is warm here and we dont get much of a frost. Thanks for the info on cold. Will hold off planting until winter kicks in and put in crisper like the tulip bulbs. Worth a try.
Thanku
Tuck is wonderful! We love Tuck and James.
Great video, thank you. That’s the first time I’ve seen someone clearly explain hard neck and soft neck garlic and how to grow it. I now realise I’ve been planting my garlic way too early, hoping for those tall green shoots to come before winter sets in, then watching them suffer in snow and ice. I’ll change it up next year.
That’s easier than what I’ve done in the past🇨🇦❤️

I am in love with your pup, Tuck. What a great garden buddy! ❤️
Love Tuck! Thanks for the tutorial on planting garlic.
I love gardening with my 2 shih tzus. Loved watching him eat his carrots
Thanks James for suggesting intercropping with tomatoes. That's exactly whaayt I'm going to do. My tomato bed is jst waiting to be mulched now it'll have something planted in it . Watch out. as I might make a video of it.
I love Tuck 🥺🥰 I hope my next dog loves the garden as much as I do!
I literally just uncloved my garlic yesterday.
So cute 😍 gardening dog
I just love your videos. I love how tuck is always involved. Your a good pet owner. thanks for all your information. I have told many about your videos. thanks for all you and tuck do.
Thank you for this. I have wanted to try growing garlic and have been a little intimidated. Thank you for explaining this in an easy informative way.
Thanks
I plant hardneck here in NH. German varieties and Music are my favs. I put in 116 cloves a cpl weeks ago. Mulched with ground leaves and grass clippings. Now, back to chorin.
Your videos are really great. Lots of good info.
Great garlic session. Thank you. I'm up in the greater Ottawa area. Zone 4. My hard neck, 'Music', if dried well for 5-6 weeks, keeps until July of the following season as long as it is stored at room temperature in paper bags and in the dark. It is wonderful stuff; 4-6 cloves per head. It goes in Oct. 20th, top knuckle deep, in compost, topped with leaf mulch. A-1.
Thank you! first year planting garlic and yep, green shoots on a few due to the abnormally warm weather we had. I cut them, hopefully that wasn't wrong. I planted slowly over time since I'm partially disabled, so the rest is more recent.
I just finished garlic planting yesterday 😊 what it comes to weather it was pretty perfect time: we are now having light frosts a couple of times a week. It was also a "root day" which is a good time for garlic planting in biodynamic calendar 🙄
Tuck is such a sweet boy!❤ Thanks for the video James.

I love tuck. Cute pie
I'm in my 3rd year of the Moroccan Creole. It has gotten better every year due to it becoming 'used' to the environment that I am in. 1st year was disappointing after the initial bulb sizes (looked like yours in the bag, likely Baker Creek as well). 2nd year, they formed much better and more even. I've got large expectations for the 3rd year after the 2nd year. This upcoming year I do plan to learn how to braid the garlic for curing.
I, too, love your happy opening greetings.
Great video. Loved little Tuck eating the carrots.

I plant two varieties: inchellum and red toch. I bought the first ones about 20 yrs ago and have always planted from my own stock ever since. I plant the biggest cloves. I leave 10 or so in the ground for early fresh garlic the next spring.
I just started growing garlic for the first time this year! I'm also in NJ, and can't wait to see how if they grew well, and to use some fresh garlic in my cooking.
