What’s the best way to keep the garlic 🧄 fresh the longest?

Can you make a video in how to deal with common garden (unwanted) critters, like neighborhood cats, skunks, groundhogs, squirrels, mice/rats,and even deer? Just ideas on what a home gardener may use (short of bb’s or electric fencing) thanks! 💚🦉

Please grow solo garlic . Single clove round ping pong ball size . Only ever bought it in Japan supermarket, can’t find it in USA . Other videos are long winded and non explanatory. Culinary pleasing in Asian cuisine , an easy one and done peeling and best when making fried garlic chips . Also Japanese cuisine use garlic stem/shoots/neck , Sold in bunches like at the veggie market ( but always found to be straight !lol). Texture like asparagus/ broccoli stem crunch , mild garlic tastes so no need to add actual garlic cloves , can finely chopped and used like spring onions for garnish . I want to have solos in my garden , please try and let us know how … the easiest and best way please .
My mum taught me to plant garlic on the shortest day of the year, and harvest on the longest day of the year. Nice that you did the shoot in the rain. I grow Russian garlic here in Australia. Thanks for the vid guys 👍🙏🏻

In my region there will be three feet of snow on the rock hard frozen ground by then 😂 I'm envious!

Same. Where I am the ground will be frozen down 3 feet and we will have at least 5 feet of snow. My garlic is planted this weekend.

Put pad on right knee, kneels on left knee. 😆
“ ice in our rain”. In the Midwest it’s called hail. 😂😂😂😂 that’s dedication guys.
I grew up in SD and I'm ROFLMAO watching you guys! Thoroughly enjoyable ;D
Filming in the rain...THAT is epic. That's what I call dedication! 😂
Never planted in the rain? Here in the PNW I've done so much gardening of all kinds in the rain, since that's what it does half the year here. I have a black wind breaker w/hood that's water proof that keeps me from getting soaked at least in some places, and doesn't show the mud. Thanks for the video! 💕🌲 Loved the green garlic sniffing slowmo's. Super cute!
Honestly, I am going to have to watch this again. I didn't hear a word you said because I was laughing too hard at you two (loveable) goofballs.
Cutest gardening couple on KZread ❤🌱
First of all I love that Kevin has a knee pad on his right knee and keeps kneeling on the left... second, your entire garden is clearly loving all the attention you give it and the rain makes it stunning... third, I am one of those folks who thought I needed to freeze the garlic and killed it instead... I'm in Hawai`i, tough to grow here but I feel inspired to try again later in the year. Love you both!
This had me laughing out loud hahaha the rain is giving an "apocalyptic touch" to the video, like you're planting for pure survival 😂😂😂
Thank you 2 and the rain for this laugh.
My father in law just gave me a huge bag of garlic that he’s been growing for 20 years. I’m new to this stuff so this video was perfect timing. Much love from New York🤘🏻
Welcome to gardening in Florida brothers. Grow on! 🪴💕
7:40 In cold climate zones you plant the garlic the same : 1-2 inches down, the ground will freeze in the winter but the hard-neck garlic is fine because it has protective chemistry, much like anything that survives winter.
What? 250 cloves in the ground? Hard-core! That rain bit was hilarious...
It's always great to have rain in SoCal!
You guys are awesome. Thank you so much. I just planted cloves from the store. The sprouted in the fridge and set them in my porch rail planter. They are growing along with my multi Herb Planter.
Love that you did this in the rain!
Gardening in the rain is my FAVORITE thing to do. It’s so peaceful. I live in Houston Texas and it’s sooo refreshing.
Groovy editing, my brothers.
Tip for removing the paper on small cloves: put them in a bowl and put another bowl on that bowl (creating a sphere) and shake. Steel bowls work the best, but any bowls will work.
10 years ago, I bought 2 heads of Elephant Garlic at a fundraiser. I planted those cloves that fall, grew them on, and them have been growing their descendants since! Seriously the most rewarding crop and not to mention easiest. I love that dibber and happen to have a broken shovel that I can use to make my own!!

😂😂love the planting in the rain😂😂
Fav. Video so far…love the rain!! 🌧️
I loved the smelling of the green garlic, I often do that with my garlic and basil lol. I won't feel so weird now... I quit digging my garlic up a while ago, and exclusively just use the greens in a permaculture bed of shallots and garlic, it's just quicker and easier to get that flavor from the greens without washing and peeling. The sets lean over and drop on the ground, and I just throw compost over it in the fall. They literally plant themselves!

You guys are so dedicated. I run for cover usually during the rain but sometimes I love the summer rain when it’s light and I remain. I’m laughing too hard while the bags get so wet.
An organic conversation in an organic garden….rain included. 👍🏻
Aloha from hawaii 🤙🏽
Starts shooting without rain... Starts raining while talking and shooting.. Ends the planting and shooting still with rain... The dedication on all of your team, especially Kevin and Jacques. You make it fun whatever the weather is.
This was a hoot! I really enjoyed watching you two break down the bulbs.
Garlic are heavy feeders I water the Garlic with seaweed solution at the beginning of its growth.
When life gives you rain, the show must go on. 😁🖖🏾🤌🏾
The dedication to the video ahaha amazing!
I love that you guys filmed this in the rain 🌧️ 🤣. Little touch of ASMR does the soul good
Such a hilarious video. Thanks for the fun!

YES,YES,YES. LABLE MARK THEM WITH STAKES. I HAVE A GARDEN MAP. HAD SO MUCH HAD TO KEEP TRACK OF WHAT I PLANTED.
love the chemistry and humor
Transylvanian garlic is awesome. I grew it last year and it was the first variety I ever grew. Chose it solely because of the name. 🧛♂️🦇

The rain is hilarious
This brought me so much joy 😂😂😂
Jacques CANNOT keep a straight face during this rain LOL 😂❤
Somehow I am smelling garlic now... not kidding! and I have no garlic...
I have rain envy! Believe it or not, I'm in Western Washington and we haven't had measurable rain in 4 months. There were just 2 days when it misted Just prepared my beds today and will plant my garlic once we get a real rain. Enjoy guys!

Right? I'm in Houston and I purposely didn't plant corn in the ground bc it rains so much and everything gets fungus. Well, this year it didn't rain for months. Then it did once, and not again since. It's weird! Definitely could have planted some stuff!
We get down to -25F here, I'll put a light mulch of straw or leaves over the garlic and potato onions. then some 4 mil clear plastic over the top and brick it down good. Stops the heaving and drives the germination rate up to around 95%.
Love you guys. I was in San Diego just this week for business, the weather was so atypical with the rain, I wish I could have stopped by to say ‘hey’. My garlic from last year is coming up now, I’m in 7b on the east coast. I will add, I plant it to keep animal pests away in addition to harvesting.

loved the epic rain haha
carrots in the ground ready for the rainy season in LA
And I grow garlic two times a year, so as my old harvested garlic begins to grow bad. I have more to harvest.
I really miss coastal SD! Lived there for 16 years!!
Wonderful timing I was just wondering about planting garlic! 🤠👍
Jacque, you should get a longer rod, like a standard shovel, and put a foot push at the 4” or 6” height so you can make those holes faster, with body weight, and while standing.
Sticking to the bit.
Enjoying in the rain. ha ha ha 😂😊
I just planted garlic today! Took a day off from the day job to do my ritual! I only grow hardnecks, Music and Special Idaho. plant 3" down 😁 Iowa
Popping garlic in the rain.
This is the best video ever God bless a dedicated Gardner 🙏 🧄🧅🥕🌽🥔🥒
Planting garlic while it's sprinkling for a moment over there. The plants in the garden are like what it's raining!!
Kevin: puts on one kneepad - kneels on his bare knee. 😄
Great video, Thank you
I have always loved green garlic because it is less acidic compared to onion greens
I wait to plant my garlic until Thanksgiving here near Gilroy, CA like all the local growers do. Harvest in late June.
Hello from Zone6! Another season another year I am late in the garlic game… this is getting embarrassing 🤦🏻♀️😬 2023 is my year!
Wow.. going hard in that rain!! 😅
LOL. Guys are great!
So, add a 3/4" dia. dowel up 4" from the end, 6" long out from the handle so you can measure 6" spacing and then step on the dowel to help sink the end to 4" in compact soil.
Excellent video Brothers. You all had fun hoffing garlic, LOL. Elephant garlic is my favorite because of the size.
I planted my first 13 cloves in March. I am exited to be able to harvest them in December. All store bought. So we'll see how successful is will be.
❤- you are going to love the Music variety- outstanding flavor, large cloves, easy to peel. Stores well! I save my largest heads to plant for next year. Thanks for the video.
Kevin - "It's so nice to just sit in the rain." All of us in the Seattle area - 😒😒😒
Planted today. More tomorrow. Hello from GA.
I just wanted to say how much I love your cat! 🥰
And I would lay down all the cloves where I wanted them planted, then I would go around and plant each one. And I would use fish emulsion or compost for fertilizing.
I just planted my garlic today. This is only my second year planting garlic. It went well enough I'm planting again, yay..
This was great 😅🤣! When that rain started pouring down I was cracking up! Thanks for soldiering on through the video! Haha.
You guys gotta be hardcore if willing to continue to do video despite rain! Enjoyed listening to rain.
I would’ve planted the other way and seen what difference roots make!
I live in zone 3 in Canada and plant my garlic in September to maybe November depending on the time I have. If I go any later the ground would be frozen solid! We can get winters down to -30 and the garlic always comes up in the spring but then we can only grow hard necks. One thing that was not mentioned was how heavy a feeder garlic is. I throw everything at them from compost, commercial fertilizer and mulch and always get an amazing crop. I almost grow garlic just for the scapes. I will share anything out of my garden with my neighbors and friends but don't touch my scapes. My favorite garlic is of course Music.
I just died cracking up at y'all cracking up! Thanks for the information and the laughs. Also, I'm glad it actually rained for you this time of year. ❤️
You should be about ready to harvest these. I'm looking forward to the results
Love the vids planting my garlic in the morning 🎉
You guys are cracking me up! :)
my grandma grew elephant garlic when I was young. I went with Vietnamese red this year.
Wow it’s raining in California 😮
Nice job guys, great video.

when I was repotting chives, they came out of the pot all roots and barely any soil. I smelled them and the roots smelled so wonderfully garlicky, and not at all like a soil, I almost wanted to eat them right there. it really shows how all these species that we eat today were selected for, and why if I were a president of my country, I'd ban not only gmo, but also imports of any and all kinds of copyrighted plants.
