This British Racing Green 2002 Jaguar XK8 is a Little Bit Clichéd, But Still a Luxury Car Bargain
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Sometimes Americans who buy Jaguars go a little overboard, what with the British Racing Green, Boots and Bonnets, Union Jacks, and that sort of thing. Many probably become Anglophiles, replaying their VHS cassettes of the Charles and Diana wedding, and celebrating the Queen Mother's birthday. It's all a bit too much.
But the allure of Jaguar, at least a vintage jaguar, is hard to resist. Swooping, elegant sheet metal, rich acreage of lush burl wood, yards of aromatic Connolly leather, and the mystique of having a car that needs repaired on a bi-weekly basis.
Actually, since Ford got a hold of Jaguar in 1989, the reliability and engineering factor has been on an upward trend. Jags may not be as romantic as they were during the E and D-Type days, but they look great, smell better, and offer a fair alternative to the sterile detachment of German luxury.
Still, there's that old reputation that's been nearly impossible to beat. The good news is the rest of us can benefit from that, as fear of Jaguar pushes used prices way down, presenting the fearless among us with a luxury car bargain. Cars like this 2002 XK8 can be had for a fraction of what a comparable Mercedes-Benz SL would cost, and offer many of the same fine features, beautiful appointments, and electronics by Ford and Bosch.
Not a bad deal at all.

Great review and a great car! You’re pretty spot on with the flags, we are subtly patriotic; I'd like to see us embrace more of an American attitude but after centuries of imperialism its best to lay low! Thanks for the hard work with these reviews, very entertaining!

You're right! I feel patriotic when I see our flag, but I wouldn't mention it. The most atrocious display was when the Rover 75 was launched at the Frankfurt motor show draped in a Union Jack while God save the Queen was playing. Cringe! I'll just take most pride in the musical contribution since the Beatles.

These Jags will be future classics, give it twenty years and in good nick they will be very sought after and will only go up and up in value, especially in the US where they can at least afford the fuel to run them.

I used to own one of these beasts. They go great, suspension is firm but not the sort that wrecks your back. Just check the plastic cam chain followers have been done as they are a weak point on the engine. I am right with you these cars should become a collectors cars.

As an Englishman of 54 years standing,I can confirm we don't really do the whole " patriotic flag " thing . You see the odd union jack in a back garden, but public buildings don't fly it and it's only recently that mini (German own) and land rover (Indian owned) have started incorporating the flags designs into the cars design.

Something these cars often do on their own. The ABS module has a flaw where the solder joints break and then that disables the ABS and the traction.
I have owned 2 Jags, a 93 XJ-6, which was a Lucas Electronics nightmare before Ford fixed those problems, but a beautiful, well running and smooth car, and presently a 2005 XK-8 which was my dream car for years. The XK is such a beautiful car and a dream to drive, and thanks to Ford, has much fewer problems than before Ford's ownership. I hate that Ford sold the brand to Tata because I have always been a Ford fan as well and they did so much to fix many Jaguar problems.
Yes Bill......the humidity in July/August is insane. It literally drives me insane. I feel you Bro. I'm in Ft. Lauderdale and it's the same here.
Love xk8 the 2005 was the final addition beautiful to my taste specially the one with out the stupid screen greetings take care
I remember when this car first arrived on the scene, 1996, a client of mine rolled up to the office in a blue one. Looked lovely. Althought I was more interested in looking at his lovely wife than his new car, tbh lol. He had a false arm, and a lazy eye, but apparently managed to drive it without incident. ;)
There's a bird just sitting on my neighbor's roof watching me. It hasn't moved in 30 minutes and I'm convinced it's a government spy.
I have woodpecker feeders in my yard to attract them. They never bother me. Always happy to see them. This guy finds them terrifying 😃
Oh no, they inflict the flags on us in England as well. One of the most popular options for a Mini is a Union Jack roof. Definitely agree about Ford saving Jaguar from the ends though. The 70's and 80's in the British car industry was a disaster.
The first 1.20 minutes of this video is hilarious 😂 the green XK8 is beautiful
My xkr has over 120000 miles on it and the ashtray and drink holder are still perfect. If you want a softer ride turn off sport mode and keep traction on otherwise the active suspension runs stiffer.
I'll admit it; I switched the voice settings to "Female" in my 2011 XJ just because when someone calls me and she announces the call in that lovely British accent it makes me happy. :-)
I watched a documentary on woodpeckers yesterday, got suggested this vid today.

I owned a 1999 XK8 from 2011 to 2015. The wife failed to heed the maintenance requirement of having the cam chain tensioners replaced at 100,000 miles. She cried her eyes out when the engine suffered two bent connecting rods and a host of other failures. I bought and installed the infamous "octopus" rubber cooling line(s). I still have the permanent scares and punch holes on my forearms to show for it. Other than that, I feel that it was the sexiest, sleekest automobile ever.
Best video I seen today....good Lord!
*Way, WAY lower ownership expense than a Mercedes R230* as well, but much the same experience. I'm not a Mercedes basher, as my daily is an R171.
Thats a beautifully styled car. I just wouldn't want to pay the money to maintain it unless this, for some reason, was my dream car. Its not mine, but it probably is for someone. My older sister almost bought a Jaguar for her first new car.
@chaos.corner

Not horrendously expensive to maintain actually. It's a Ford engine.
The best V8 ever built..!!!!
Bill, don't put the Jaguar down, looks like a very nice car!!
they had union jack mats here too ! Just like the modern mini has union jack rear lights
My grandfather had a XK8 with British Racing green but his was a 2000 model!
U R the Greatest character on KZread, Bill 😂 U just do U so well 🎉
this is hilarious! LOVE IT
Watch out for those wood peckers . Great car . Great review.
Great car! Yesterday I saw one of this in Bucharest.
I'm in the UK. I drive an X351 Jaguar XJ, diesel twin turbo, V6 3000cc. . There's no Union Flags on the car which I'm pleased about as it's an Indian company that owns Jag nowadays. The only cars I've had with the Union flag on them were MGs (prior to MG going bust and being bought by the Chinese). The ZR, ZS and ZT had them on the C pillar,
I just replaced the right headlight lens and gasket on one of these a couple hours ago.

Love how Bill talks about non car shit for half the car reviews. Keep the Whiskey going Bill
British Racing Green Metallic is just synonymous with a Jag XK
Funny as hell,as ever. And that's a gorgeous car.
Good luck with the sale. It's a lovely car, for a fraction of the price of a similar Mercedes I'd hope. We British don't really do much flag waving, not to the extent that the the USA does at least. I'm Scottish living in England so the Union Jack floormats dont't do much for me, but I don't get excited about Scottish nationalism either. As far as Germany goes, the only people who are into German flags tend to have shaved heads, neck tattoos and bomber jackets.
Thank you sir. Kg
Got an 20O2 xkr British racing green w/ all kinds of shelby tech= 2 blowers, supercharger, intercooler,& custom exhaust... Thinking about chipping it, but I already hand the base model 911, clk,6 & 3 series owners their own @$$'s on the daily... Despite how hard parts & service are I truly love my stargazer lilly!
Right to the video. God bless you
Cliched nothing. It's beautiful. I have an 03 XKR and love it. No Union Jacks anywhere on it, though.
Glad to see you back at home Bill. Oh and no one, repeat no one in the UK would have Union Jack flags on their floor mats. Yuck!
Woodpeckers regarded this earth with envious eyes, and slowly and surely drew their plans against us.

Using the J shifter can be fun but not as much as a full-manual car. Handy for when you're waiting to overtake and don't want to wait for the slushbox lag. Note that it will still automatically shift to lower gears.
Yep Bill- it's cliche to a degree or 6, but the formula works
We live for Bill’s exasperating sighs.
