Why so many great companies use mov steels instead of 14c28n is mind boggling to me. There are so many knives I'd buy in this great, inexpensive steel. My Ruike knives have been indestructible, easy to sharpen n have never had even the slightest bit of rust. 14c28n for the win. I don't even bother looking at any vids w over $200 fixed blades (ok don't care abt knives over $100 anymore, lol); I start stressing abt ruining that beautiful, expensive knife. I want a knife that I can concentrate on the cutting job, not on preserving my investment. oh n BTW, scandi is too limiting. Jmo , peace

14c28n is a great steel. But edge strength isnt the best compated to lets say 3v ... retention is good. Bradford guardian makes great fixed blades, especially for hard use. 3v, rex45, vanadis 4e...etc

Actually, if you follow Larrin Thomas, you would know that the toughness of 14c28n rivals CPM-3v. Sure, its edge retention is less, but the steel and the knives that use it are much less expensive. The steel is far better than 1095!

@@donrichter3523 that's what I'm saying. I Wish 14c28n (an exceptional budget steel) was used INSTEAD of the crappy mov steels. I love my 14c28n folders.

I bought the Ruike Hornet long ago and I love it!! I've had my eye on this knife for a long time. I prefer American made, but Chinese manufacturers are putting out great products, with good materials and good fit and finish, at half the price of most others with similar quality. As a consumer, it's hard to ignore that. I don't like the belt loop attachments Ruike uses. I intend to make my own leather backers with a drop loop.

As a tip: if you are not satisfied with firmness of the knife's sitting in the sheath you can always replace the plastic spacer in the upper corner of the sheath with a rubber one and just tighten the screw.

Great review. I just found you and subscribed. I like your energy and style. Just a pointer on knife terminology: the space between the sharpened part of the blade and the guard is the "ricasso". I think you stumbled on this a little when describing the knife. I'm glad you have discovered Ruike. I bought their EDC folder on a whim just because of the 14c28n steel and have loved it except for the thumb stud, but that's another story.

I was the same, had in my Amazon cart for a year and then the price dropped $10 one day so I bought it. I like it a lot but it doesn't make it into my normal rotation over my BRK's, LTW's or BHK's. However, it's definitely a great knife, especially for a SS blade. Agree on the jimping, I normally hate it but this knife its no problem. It did everything I needed it to so far. My only complaint is the size of the ricasso and that hole in it, wish the edge was closer to the handle. Enjoyed the review.

Been thinking of buying one of these, so looked for a review, saw you did one, and immediately skipped all others and clicked on your link. I really appreciate your in depth reviews, and the way you compare other options. I am a big fan of 14c28 steel for the sub $100 price range. It's a very good steel choice if you want a stainless without spending a ton of money for a super steel bladed knife. It holds an edge pretty well, better than 1095 in my experience, is easy to sharpen and takes a very nice edge. It also responds well to a strop, so easy to touch up and bring that fine edge back without having to hit the stones, as long as you don't let it go to dull. Thanks for the review..think I'm going to pull the trigger. I love a nice scandi grind for carving and bush craft tasks, but a saber or flat grind is better for an all around field knife, which is what I'm looking for. I already have enough scandi ground knives to last a lifetime or two, lol.

Gerber same price looks like Morvakniv made it but no Scandinavian grind blade & crap steel too. Morakniv Garberg is $80 and $99 if you get a leather sheath. I got one for €50 with an awesome discount, I agree that it's an awesome design and I'm a big fan of the steel, but what makes it special is the price not the design. It's a very common hunting knife design, I can probably give you 5 other examples off the top of my head. Some have the hole at the bottom of the finger guard, some don't, but the overall shape is very common.

So I bought lightly used Lionsteel M5 G10 version, for 80,- Eur and it is much better design of handle (or may be just bigger handle). And also I like much better the mole sheath on Lionsteel M5. And also this Sandvik steel seems to be softer than Sleipner steel on Lionsteel M5. One thing I dont like on Lionsteel M5 is spot/selective corosion, especialy in salty or humid enviroment.bit

Sleipner is nothing like D2 although it was developed in answer to the lower toughness of D2 for similar applications. Much lower carbon and chromium content than D2. Its in the same "family" as 3v (7% chromium tool steel) and is very tough and holds an edge for a decent amount of time (not as well as D2). A great steel for "survival" applications.

@@peniakfoto much better steel indeed, but leather sheaths rot, I threw away several knives which came with leather sheaths because the sheaths just corroded with time. For an expensive survival knife to be used outdoor in rain and sun a kydex sheath imo is a must.

@@BOOSTEDLASER For a stainless steel, 14c28n is one of the toughest available in a knife, on par with AEB-L and NioMax. No other stainless is even close in toughness. Edge retention, for this toughness excellent, on par with 440C, and much better than 1095. It is clearly not low grade garbage.

The Chinese can make the worst garbage, and also make the most of the eletronics that you use every day, they do what you are willing to pay, they make excellent products, or of the quality that you are willing to pay. In fact they make the same product of different qualities and at different prices. For example, a glass, they make $0.10 one that breaks easily and another one that costs 1 dollar with the highest quality. To think that everything the Chinese do is of poor quality is a mentality of 30 years ago. They simply do what you ask them, with the quality that you ask for and they charge you appropriately.
