Zagitova has a personality. She is just shy and soft spoken probably that’s why people don’t realised. I find her humble with lots of kindness and love. Look at how many little animals and pets she’s been taking care of. Anyone read about a French lady written something on Alina trying pace and play with her kid and she asked Alina what is studying/doing currently. Alina answered she is a figure skater and the lady (most probably not a Skating fan) asked if she would want to participate in the Olympics and Alina said she had participated in it and was a great experience. The lady then after that knew she was the olympic champion from someone else, she felt Alina was so humble and did not talk about her winning.

Ok, a little refresher for Dave and Mr. Artistic Soul Singer here: 1. Scott and Tessa did not start the rumours of the so-called judging scandal, it started from a French tabloid. They personally never claimed that it was fixed - only that they wanted a relatively small sport like ice dance to be taken seriously on the world stage. The most insincere thing Scott said was that they felt Marina wasn’t in their corner (which is partially true - Marina was not at their practices and Patch was practically their coach in Sochi) 2. They have repeatedly said Sochi was their greatest Olympic experience, topping both Vancouver and PyeongChang 3. They also recently won a Canadian Walk of Fame Award. They specifically called out Marina to thank her and the Canton coaching team in their acceptance speech 4. Literally every press conference since the day of their comeback, Tessa and Scott have always mentioned how incredible it was to train with Meryl and Charlie My point is that it's pretty obvious that you guys are convinced they were soooo salty after Sochi, despite of everything above. Yet this article comes out about Gabby and Guillaume, and you guys can’t even admit they they’re *gasp* sore losers for once. If this situation were reversed, you guys would be SALIVATING while ripping Virtue and Moir to shreds - let's be honest here

RE: Alina Zagitova Perhaps you may think that she has no distinguishing ability, no individuality. That's your personal opinion and that's fine by me, anyone can have their own opinion even if I may not agree with it. But to say she's got a "pretty face" and a "Lutz Loop combo" "and that's it" is so terribly degrading and inherently sexist it disgusts me. You invalidate her achievements; yes she's beautiful, but she's not JUST beautiful; she's incredibly resilient, she's strong and she's worked her ass off, not just for people like you to call her "a pretty face". She is THE Olympic champion, World champion, youngest winner of the 'Grand Slam of Figure Skating', only 2ND ever behind Kim Yuna. She's the ONLY Olympic ladies champion other than Katarina Witt to do a Grand Prix circuit after winning Olympic Gold, and she actually did pretty damn good with a Silver. She didn't win any of her medals because she's "a pretty face" but because she out skated her competitors. And its not just because of her Lutz Loop combos either. She is by far one of the BEST Spinners aside from Satoko, you'd be hell pressed to find another skater who's spins are as well done. Call it busy what will you, but she's never got anything less than a Level 4 on her step sequence, not once. She doesn't need to telegraph her jumps, unlike most skaters. And yeah maybe the Lutz Loop helped her win Olympic gold in 2018, but it was only because she had the guts to throw in a Lutz-Loop after she missed it, in a program packed with jumps. And again at worlds, yeah she may have a Lutz Loop, but she can also land it when it matters most even when her competitors fail to hold things together. She's much more than that. NO SKATER deserves to be spoke off in such a manner.

@m m Yeah, as if Medvedeva is all that interesting. Ok, she likes anime and kpop and is a quirky teenage girl who wears skimpy warm up gear now (via contract). Skating wise, she doesn't have much personality. She couldn't even pull off a program even slightly different from what she used to do (OCS). It's amazing how people legitimately see her skating as better now just because they think her coach is better. TSL has talked about this sort of thing before and they fall victim to the same thing. Everyone says Medvedeva is so much better because they want her to be better to stick it to Eteri, when she's just really not half the skater she used to be. Her skating is labored, her jumps aren't there, her programs are empty and say what you will about Eteri, but she kept her spins in line unlike with Orser. I'll take Alina's "personality" and skating over Medvedeva any day.

You guys really need to clarify about that Instagram video from Sambo 70. What happened looks horrible, but the coach in question is not Eteri, or any of the coaches on her team. Just like in rinks in the US, there are several coaches that coach in one rink, and the behavior of one coach doesn't reflect the behavior of the others. Heck, I've been at rinks in the US where there are some crazy, borderline abusive coaches, but other coaches that are just fine. In this video you made it seem like this was someone on Eteri's team, which really is not correct journalism. You may like to speculate about her methods, but really, there is no proof that she is at that level, no matter what you'd like to think. You literally used the hashtag teamtutberidze in your Instagram post, when it isn't them.

Just about everything they said was pretty accurate by way of Google Translate: They hoped Tessa and Scott would fall, that Gadbois was a family until they came. Roomie said that she personally uses the word "plantent" in the context of either fall, mess up, implode etc. I do think it was rude of Gabby to apologize for "people getting the translation wrong" when everything was in fact translated correctly, and then say they "have nothing but respect for everyone last season" without even mentioning the name of the people she spent the entire article complaining about

I think it’s more about how people make a huge deal of it of something that’s normal a.. they hope the adversary makes mistakes and open doors for them to win. I’m sure every athlete have felt the same. I’m Portuguese but I understand french from France and English. And in the hole context of the conversation the meaning is clear. I don't follow Mao as much as I used to, so I hope I'm right : Few facts about Mao's ice show: (1) The tickets are sold cheaper compared to other ice shows so it will be affordable for the general public. (2) The priority is given to the residents of the prefecture where the ice show is held (Japan is divided in 47 prefectures). In this way, it prevents repeaters and a long-time fans from taking all seats and it will be easier for people who are interested in watching Mao's skating or ice skating in general for the first time. (3) Mao's programs are re-choreographed by her so they can be performed in groups. I am unsure if all programs are rechoreographed by her bc some programs are skated by her teammates: ex. Mura skates to Bells of Moscow and Haruka Imai skates to So Deep is the Night. (4) Mai Asada, mao's sister, used to be part of the team and she was replaced by Haruka Imai, who was working as a coach at the time. (5) After retirement, Mao thought she will not experience the feeling of accomplishments like she did as a individual competitor, but she feels more accomplishments working as a part of the team.

Elena Vaitsekhovskaya, the 'journalist' you guys are refering to is biased, as she had a conflict with Tutberidze right before Sochi Olympics. There were at least 2 people who witnessed their argument and confirmed it publicly: 1) Russian Figure Skating Federation spokesperson Olga Ermolina 2) journalist Arthur Werner. Eteri has been Vaitsekhovskaya's personal enemy since then. She used to criticize Medvedeva mercilessly, but as soon as Zhenya switched to Orser she suddenly became the most talented skater with super lutz in Vaitz's eyes :D Just saying. Totally fine for a journalist to criticize different coaching styles, coaches, skaters, but the thing with Vaitsekhovskaya is that she ONLY criticizes Eteri and her camp. :P

To those who are interested in some background on Vaitsehovskaya - Tutberizde situation. Vaitsehovskaya is a very intelligent woman and very talented journalist but she is human and her articles on Tutberidze are of very personal character, to say it mildly. It all started from Sochi Olympics when Lipnitskaya was chosen to skate both SP and LP in team event and Sotnikova was not selected. Everyone knows that Vaitsehovskaya is Buyabova’s friend so she wrote an article accusing Tutberidze of some networking with ministers for Sotnikova not being chosen. As it was not true, Tutberidze approached her in front of everyone and made deny her words and write an article confirming that the previous article was a lie. Since then , Vaits started her crusade on writing hateful articles on Tutberidze and all her students. Lipnitskay, Medvedeva, Zagitova were totally slated by her. Yes, even 2 time World medallist Medvedeva didn’t escape her criticism and even Tarasova during live event had to defend Medvedeva from her. That’s why I was very surprised that Medvedeva gave interviews to Vaits after she left Eteri. Vaits became so obsessed with Eteri that even when she interviews other people , she just digs for negative stuff about Tutberidze that she is not even interested in the person she interviews. Tbh it is hilarious! She is obsessed and it is quite sad that such a talented journalist become so unprofessional because of personal hate. Of course, she does not write anything negative about her friend Buyanova even though there is a lot of reasons this season to question her work. Also, Vaits who is apparently worried about Eteri’s students wrote such poisonous articles about these girls that you can get mental issues just from reading these things about yourself so she really has double standards.

so true. She often contradicts herself, saying one thing one day and complete opposite next day, and looking back, it's obvious not once has she made a somewhat factually correct article. They take her words as complete truth, and if they actually read her articles throughout the years, her incompetence is so obvious.

That was interesting. Thanks for sharing. But still, because none of Eteri's skaters seem to make it past 17 or 18 and her students seem physically "broken" when they leave, people will continue to think it isn't a healthy environment. I hope that changes with Zagitova and her new crop of skaters. That she and her team learn to guide them healthily into adult careers, not just short whiz kid careers.

TB , none of the coaches in Russia had success with girls who are older than 18 in the past many years. Sotnikova won Olympics at 17 and never continued. Everybody likes to praise Mishin with Liza Tuktamysheva but she also won gold once in 2015 and disappeared for years. She has not qualified for 2 Olympics. It is amazing that she returned this year but she has not even been sent to Worlds, her 16 year old team mate Samodurova went. So why pick on Eteri? It is not just Eteri, it is everyone. Actually, Eteri has the best record, as she had Medvedeva winning gold 2 times and becoming silver Olympics medallist at 18. She also has Tursynbaeva who won silver at worlds at 19.

You don't have to be native speaker to think logically. Falls are very rare in ice dance so it was very unlikely that Tessa and Scott would fall. Gabi for sure meant 'making a mistake' which is much more likely for ice dancers than fall and actully all they would really need to win. Btw, Zagitova also admitted after GPF that she hoped that Rika don't succeed with her 3 A, when she said after competition, that she needs to learn how to focus on herself and do all she can, instead of hoping that 'other competitor won't do something'.

I worry the Medvedeva is going to have the same compressed off-season training time this year as last year. Her last show in Japan is in mid-June. She may not have enough time to fine tune her new programs, work on her weak points, and rehab her various injuries before the new season starts. I know that she’s got to make that show money to be able to train with Orser, but she may be spreading herself too thin. Also, if what you say about the culture of trauma in the Russian system is true, it doesn’t look like it really damaged Medvedeva mentally. She has physical injuries, but she’s never appeared to be fearful like some of the other girls.

I can't wait for 2002 men video!! There's Japanese comic book about the author being a figure skating fan, and it starts from the 2002 Olympics men. "Yagudin performs to all direction of the audience and has a large magnet that slowly attracts the audience into his world. Before you know it, the whole arena is sharing the experience with him. In contrast, Plushenko is 2% Carmen and 98% Plushenko. The only statement he makes through his performance is 'LOOK AT ME' and you are forced to watch him like being sucked into a black whole. For his fans, that presence itself is exactly what they love about him." SPOT ON. Takeshi Honda, while not having the special 'it factor' himself (but with excellent technical content), definitely paved the way for the next generation of Japanese male skaters to shine on the international stage (i.e. Daisuke Takahashi). Also Takeshi Honda is an amazing figure skating commentator. His statements are so informative; explains the technical element, discusses his thoughts on how it may be scored and why, and always gives the TV viewers new knowledge on what we should be looking for in a certain program or skater. Also love the shout out to Tatsuki Machida in the beginning! His 2014 worlds short was the best artistic program in male figure skating history in my eyes!

That video is very worrisome, but also very unclear. It must be from 5 years ago, because the banner above the rink says "10 years Hrustalni", while the club recently celebrated its 15th anniversary. Just curious, how did you find it? Why would Sambo 70 post such an old video and then delete it? Did someone send it to you? If so, do you have the name of the angry coach? I hope she or he isn't working there anymore.

Or as to get one of theit training mates to the top? Wouldn't be discouraging for potential teams for the camp ti think that as long as P/C were there the camp coaches won't be pushing another team as top 1? One thing is how you feel, because we are all humans, but another thing is expressing it the way they did, showing how imature they still are (at least Gaby!!! What? she thought they will never have teams cappable of beating them?!), because I totally understand how she/he felt. They/she showed their/her true colours, and, for me, it was a big disappointment (I expected more maturity...), and, even as question of respect for one of the biggest teams of all times (for sure Virtue/Moir had the same feelings towards Davis/White, for sure, i am not that naive), they shouldn't have said it in my opinion (it's worth what it's worth), knowing that in all interviews Tessa and specially Scott always had good and complimentary words towards them, saying they were better beacause of them, (feeling it or not, but smart/intelligent enough to say it). Every team going against them now know that they want them to fail, no matter how good they are or do, so this is bad sportmanship. One thing I'm sure Virtue/Moir didn´t want the dressgate to happen (they didn't deserve the score they got, because they failed, even if it was because of the dress - I trully felt sorry for her/them, but scores should be based on what you do in competition!!!) Plus Gabi is the last person that should come for Tessa/Scott when it comes to mysterious/odd judging puh-lease. And this isn't the only thing immature/childish/sore loser thing P/C has done they have also: - Gui said they lost only because of gabis dress mishap when they had twizzle mistakes in the SD and an underwhelming free dance - Skipped over hugging/shaking hands with the shibs on the Olympic podium - Gabi retweeted an article during PC that was basically said they should have won that was also very anti shibs and anti tessa and scott not to mention the article itself was poorly researched and the author referred to the shibs Coldplay fd as "sensual" *facepalm* - Gabi had an instatory with a sticker that said Olympic champion on it

French is my first language and I have read the interview : in the context, it means to fail to achieve your technical element, by a fall or any other cause. In general, when you use «planter» it is for a really big mistake. For example, if you «plante» your exam, you fail or you are below the average by a good margin. She was wishing for a «fail» from V/M rather than a simple «mistake». For a mistake, she would have used the word « se tromper» (make a mistake) rather than «planter». In some context, «se planter» is use to say that you fall and I think that this is the origin of the slang because the word is close in spelling to «plancher» which means «floor». I hope that makes it clearer for everyone.

From the interview I read in French, I'm bilingual, P/C lost trust in their coaches once V/M arrived. Then, P/C were told they should aim for gold and should win gold at OG, as they did not believe they could at first. Then, they had their dream chattered, because V/M made no mistake and V/M were better. Like said below, every competitor who can only win if their rivals fail will wish their rivals to fail. Also, Gaby said she went back to the Olympic village crying and wandering in the village like a lost soul. She said it was a trauma. Sure that's an immature reaction, but how old is she ? You're not adult at that age.

If you need a team to fall to win, you should go back to the rink and work :) they are fab skaters, but it seems like a really unhealthy attitude to have. The most confident people I've met know what their competitors are doing and make sure to do enough so that they never have to worry about their competitors again. I think V/M probably had those thoughts earlier in 2014 and sometimes earlier in their career, but the wonderful part of their return in 2016 was that they looked like they didn't give a shit what anyone else was doing but were chasing excellence. In other words, focus on your talent Gabi, you don't need people falling to win. And btw, as a French speaker, the article was not SO badly translated, the meaning was there.

Saying this technique is specific to Eteri school is wrong. If you watch figure skating often enough, and as people indicated above, that technique is common to around 99% of female skaters and a lot of male skaters Shoma, Junhwan and so on. The critique pointed exclusively at Eteri school is unfair, as so many others aren't criticized as half as much despite having the same technique
