This Russian test skates gave me the chills !!! 🤩 Team Tutberidze is definitely the stronger to me. I was so surprised by Alina! I didn't expect that attitude from her, she seemed happy, enjoying her skating especially her free which you can say whatever you want but I loved it! 💗 The music, coreo, jumps are back, so nothing will change my mind, I hope she keeps that attitude always 🤞🏼 Also waiting for her dress hope it be nice as always. Trusova wow ! She might not be the best artist, typical delicate skater but that girl has determination, just look at her eyes, her stare 😱 If only Eteri & Daniil agree to open their team to more new people and experiment, I feel all the girls would improve even more!! Alyona beautiful as always, I actually liked her FP she did amazing!! So flirting and more refreshing ! 🥰 Anna looks so fragile like a fairy, so elegant, and she reminds me of a very young Alessandra Ambrosio. 🙊So I just waiting to see them competing and I feel that they will add a 3A, maybe it will be Alyona, or Trusova, Alina, Anna, all of them, who knows but I feel it... Ok Evgenia, she looks more mature, she's grown up and looks different in a good way. I liked her SP, well Muse is one of my fav bands, that song doesnt need much, she feels it, she did great! 🤩 Only in her free I am not convinced... Maybe because it's her 1st time presenting it but she seemed nervous, and she needs to increase the difficulty, more jumps, let's wait for the 4ad. 👀 I don't know I am not a skating expert I just see what I see and according to my taste and how the skater makes me feel I give my opinion. But yeah Evgenia looks better overall, she only needs to put more effort on the technical side and mental, she lacks that assertiveness she used to have before... Liza is so cool, very open, her 3A are great and she seems to be really wanting to compete and give a good fight! 💪🏼 I only watched them, Sofia and Stanislava I couldn't but I feel that they'll do their best. Conclusion: I feel that Russia will continue to be strong, lead this season! All the girls are good fighters and I'd not underestimate anyone, just remember last season! 😁 I can't wait for the challengers, gps, nationals, worlds etc...😱 Let's the best or at least the ones who do it better at the competition win! This is how sports roll, nothing is ever written in stone !! Good luck to all ✌🏼

I liked Sofia's costume in the FS. She still crosses herself multiple times before starting her skates. Her programs are exciting, and she has flair, but her skating does not seem to be at the same level as most of the other ladies here. Stanislava is perhaps my least favourite Russian lady, but to give her credit where it is due, she has gotten rid of the helicopter Tanos; her hands over the head are much more attractive now, and seems to be used selectively. She is still wooden (to me anyway) and that is why I am not a fan. I agree with Jonathan about "Team Tutberidze" evolving and improving, and that excites me.

I agree with Dave about Evgenia's free skate being too white washed. I think Memoirs of Geisha's music is the most suitable for SP rather than FS. The way music cuts were done had sth to do with that as well. In Evgenia's program, that particular part of Sayuri's theme kept coming back and it aided to the whole program looking almost quite monotonous. Even during the dramatic parts, there wasnt anything in particular that grabbed my attention (it almost looked like she was going through motions rather than feeling the music during the last step sq btw). On the other hand, Satoko's SP to the same music was done in a very clever way. It had a nice built up and putting that part of Sayuri's theme solely at the end of program had that effect, I think.

I think it's very difficult for Trusova to not be ahead. Her BV alone is 10 points higher than Anna's (who doesn't land the 4Lz often), and more than 20 points higher than Alina and Alena. And in terms of GOE, she does have good air time on her jumps, more than Alina and Anna, and her spins should get high GOE as well. With the 20 point difference, i think even if scored fairly in PCS, like you're saying in the video she gets 7s and the others get 9s/10s, I don't think that is 20 points.... I think fair and square, Trusova would win, because the GOE is there. It's not like she's jumping quads the size of Satoko's triples, and Alina/Anna are jumping triples the size of Polina Tsurskaya's.. I think her win would be justified

@@littlebachmonster Exactly. And it's not like she's going to get lower GOEs than the other girls (maybe in spins because the others fixed theirs). But Sasha's jumps are just as high if not higher than most of the girls' and she'll get quad GOE factoring, in addition to her massive quads. Anna/Alena/Alina just can't catch up even with 10s in PCS compared to her 7s (which is a huge stretch - because they're not even 3 points better in transitions, and Anna I think has even weaker skating skills). And then we all know Sasha is planning to add 3As and will if she can.

Watched all the test skates, interviews, and behind the scenes shot by Russian television all of yesterday. It's going to be a blood bath among ladies this season! I absolutely loved Alena Kostarnaya (I've never seen anyone float on ice in the 15 years I've been watching figure skating, if only she showed us her 3A), Sinitsina/Katsalapov (their short is extremely beautiful; and their interviews are so level headed), Morozov/Tarasov (in their interviews they sound happier and more hungry than I've ever heard them sound; they also said they spend about double the time on ice than they did in Moscow and that has contributed to their improvement, and are practicing with dancers, not pairs; they said that dancers have higher blade skills and they've seen improvement as they're trying to keep up with the best in the group; they also said they only moved across the big pond for results and sound like they have the highest of results in their mind, very serious about that). I also loved Stasya's short program (what a beautiful image she creates, and that dress!). And I got to give props to Sasha Trusova, where it's due (even if I like her skating less than other Eteri's girls and Genya) - 3 quads in one program! And she didn't even sound tired in an interview right after she got off; she was ready to go back on ice and do it all over again. That girl cracks me up, because in her interviews she is extremeley shy and coy, unless she talks about her jumps :) When asked once, what will she do if men will start jumping 5s, she answered, without skipping a beat,"jump 5s as well, of course! Who said women can't do what men can?" And for that, you got to give this kid credit :)

This is the weird thing for me about Alexei Mishin. Everyone talks about what an amazing coach he is, particularly on the technical front. But why is it that he ignores - removes - complicated transitions and intricate choreography when these are an essential way that skaters rack up the points (and not just the artistic score but also the technical score)? Anyone who takes the time to study Eteri's girls can see exactly this. Yes, their routines are too cluttered, but all these additions help them get the scores they need to come out on top. Elizaveta seems to be putting all her eggs into the "I have two 3A in my Free Skate" basket. Even if she lands both of them, she is going to have to have some misses from her competitors in order to medal at Russian nationals. It's a bit insane the depth in ladies' figure skating in Russia right now. Think about it: it's entirely possible (in fact, likely) that a skater doing two 3As won't even get selected to compete in the WC.

  • @grisgris6908

I also feel this way about Mishin. He might be an incredible technical coach, but I don't think he shows smart coaching in regards to Elizaveta or Sophia. IJS is a points system, why wouldn't he encourage racking up as many points as possible? And I love Elizaveta but I agree her programs are not up to the standard that they should be considering the depth of talent in Russia.

I would agree Trusova's skating skills need improvement. But generally that's what I want skating to be - unladylike (!). Since last season, I have been hoping Sasha (with the help from her team) keeps, develops and refines her own style - athletic, 'futuristic', genderless. There's amazing potential there for 'ladies' figure skating to stop being attached to outdated stereotypes associated with feminine expression. C'mon, it's 2019.

I was shocked by how amazing Tarasova and Morozov looked skating to Bolero. I’m impressed by the Knierims’ lifts since switching coaches. Doug likely isn’t aware, but Alexa said Chris actually forgot part of the program, which explains why they just stood there at one point. The only part I’m a bit leery of is the stop after the death spiral very early in the program. I would keep the speed going there. Other than that, the program flows well and has plenty of potential. Cain and LeDuc skated one clean program last season at US Nationals, had jump errors at every event, and are behind on the pair elements to begin with, so I don’t get the impression Alexa and Chris must land everything to win Nationals. They need to land at least some of the jumps, but I feel like we sometimes place unreal expectations on them. Sui and Han have rarely landed all the jumps and they are winning everything. Alexa and Chris should never feel pressure to have to be perfect. If the US’s aim is to merely give the National title to the pair with the fewest mistakes or the most warhorsey music, then they’re only encouraging very safe and cookie cutter pair skating that isn’t competitive on the World level anyway (not mentioning any names). Dave, I appreciate your comments and I’m on the same page with you more these days.

It really pains me to say that, but if all the Eteri girls have a good season start, then Alena seems the more likely to be cut from the Euro/World team. Alexandra/Anna will rack up too many points if they land their quads, so it’ll eventually come down to Alena vs Alina... But Alina has the lutz/loop combination and the titles/confidence. Such a shame, because Alena is just stunning

It seems either he didn't want to do it due to personal bias or just didn't watch her short at all. P.S.: also not a word about Akatieva's two 3As in her free is somewhat disappointing. You raised good points. I'm sure Raf's technique isn't for everyone, especially if we expect skaters to master it overnight. Any severe movement into a triple toe seems like it might hamper one's timing more than aid it, but that's just me. The less movement in the entry, the fewer places for something to become off. Remember Adam's huge curve into his triple axel? Certainly not the technique for most people. If the jump entry still feels foreign and needs more muscle memory, then it might be a technical issue more than a mental one. Only Alexa & Chris know, but I don't think they need drastic technical changes, more like tweaks. Chris had gotten over the popping tendencies for the most part and rotated a lot of jumps last season and now they've changed the technique again, so that takes time. I like the suggestion of having cue words. That might be more valuable than sports psychologists. It's also important psychologically to not dwell on one element out of a 12 element pair program, so I'm doing them a disservice by only mentioning jumps. They are definitely improved overall and obviously have a lot of strong qualities that put them in good stead and make them potentially more competitive against stronger pairs. Didn't Meagan Duhamel once say she wasn't fond of the Mid Atlantic competition? The skaters should treat it as a low-key warmup event, not get worked up over mistakes. I would hope Alexa isn't that hard on herself when she falls on one jump. Find me a pair girl who never misses. She's wonderful and needs confidence. If she's nailing them in practice it will translate to competition in time.

From many interviews from Yuna, she claimed that she asked Orser to be her coach after having some classes from him. And the fact that Javi and Yuzu stayed with Orser for years. I believe Orser can teach. The question is whether Orser is the right coach for Evgenia or whether moving to a foreign countries for a young girl is too much to handle. Either way it seems that it has been too much for Evgenia mentally to handle. Orser’s facial expression was different from what he looked when with Javi and Yuzu. Anyway, I wish Evgenia can overcome difficulties in her life. Anyway the Japanese music does not fit for Evgenia. Asian music choice is also a good one, but it needs to be easy for people from different cultures to understand melody-wise. That is easy for people of different countries to follow and enjoy without knowing the story of that piece of music.

@@evanperilstein5308 I don't think you're fare to Evgenia. Her programs have potential, they will obviously add more elements to get better points. Let's not forget how much her free program changed throughout the last season: they added 3s+3lo in the middle of the year! I think they both, Alina and Zhenya, have a chance if they are clean. However, it's unpredictable. Your point on Alina's placing second is shaky, cause there are still Liza with three 3A, Anna with 4Lutz and Alena with crazy components and overall good technique. I believe all thses ladies deserve a place at the podium, so which one would win is a case of fortune. Trusova can be the absolute champion, but let's not forget that she doesn't always perform her quads. Last year she lost to Sherbakova and Kostornay. So, we can't really predict anything.

I feel like zhenia is doing as many lutzes as she can because she needs at least one in her free and she needs to practice it under pressure, right? I mean if anything they're trying to get her to correct her edge by just having her doing it lots of times? as for her programs, I think they're better than the ones she had last season and her flow/speed seem better than last season as well. At this point I feel like she should just worry about enjoying skating and improving for herself rather than worrying about competition and winning and all that. I was so impressed with Zagitova, not only in terms of her jumps being fully rotated but she was actually allowed to hold positions and her programs weren't a complete atrocity!! she still has the hunch problem but I actually feel excited to watch her this season

Hair, costume, makeup, as well as an aesthetic created by music and style of movement...otherwise why have music playing...they could just wear black bodysuits and each attempt jumps and spins. Of course we are all going to have opinions on what we prefer to see from a skater. Medvedeva should change the entrance to her 3lz entrance or remove it from her programs. I have seen her doing the same entrance as Alina few seasons ago, looked way better. That entrance can hide flutzing quite well. I loved evgenia and Vladimir’s short a looot but long was boring. Evgenia seemed more vivid but the guy is still boring. looking at Ksenia was still more exciting despite her technical errors Btw there was a show with Tarasova, she was invited in the music show as an ‘expert’ in music. She said she has one piece that she is dreaming to make a program for pairs but she did not have a pair for that music. I have a feeling she will make that program for Stolbova, May be for Olympics if she reaches that far

Adult ladies don't have the endless energy of 15 year olds so have to pace themselves wisely. I think she needs more transitions in her free skate and maybe a spread eagle on the first chorus section of her SP to add more effect and wow factor. Her SS have improved but I think it's hard to tell when she clearly hasn't rehearsed her FS that much compared to her SP. but the way in which she held those edges at the beginning of her SP is a good indicator.
