I work at the James Cook Museum in Cooktown, Queensland, Australia. We house the only known anchor and one of six cannons thrown overboard in 1770. They were all found between 1968 to 1971 using magnetic technology of the time.

@@Magneticg Have you guys thought of buying a trailerable boat like a Shetland family four and use that to explore the canals off the beaten track? Maybe fewer finds but less junk... ... and more fun :-) Have an on old aluminium boat to tow behind you for all the smelly stuff. LOL

Hi yes we have considered upgrading, we already have a rib boat with outboard but found it tricky to magnet fish from last time we attempted it. We have a place to magnet fish that should produce some interesting finds but will require a boat to access it, watch this space!

A day out with your son and showing the great wonders you live near, Almost like a mini vacation from the NY Blizzards we had this year...I do remember my dad taking me and my siblings out to places were we lived like this even now 30 years later they are very fond memories, take care keep safe and keep throwing.

How refreshing from the normal videos. That's cool to see how people held something so important that they built a shelter for the well and made a space to dip your hands, feet or whatever, into of this most coveted water of their time. I have away thought that throwing money into a well is for prayers, wishes or symbolic of not being attached to money bc it is said to be the root to all evil.🤷‍♀️ Me and my boys love to see you two have different adventures.

What a beautiful area! I am thinking the larger one is clear because of the limestone used in it. Back in the day, limestone was used to “white wash” walls of cabins and homes to “disinfect” after a harsh winter. Farmers also would white wash the inside of barns and animal enclosures. I still do this in my barn and chicken coop with every spring clean out.

The things other than money could be wishes prayers or memories, or blessings from those that believe. Wells like this are cleared of the coins etc now and then and collected usually by the owners of the land the well is on for or by the local church, or charity.

MAGNET FISHERS TIP! Allways have a rool of good tesa tape in your toolbox ! In that Way you Can tape the spoon to a handgrenate for all safety… If the split are rotten or the hinge on the spoon 👌🏻 Dry the grenade off for water! Give 5-6 turns of tesa tape🥰 And you should be safe! The EOD Will Love you for that💯 We use Black tape in hot weather - and blue in the cold weather 🤜🏻💥🤛🏻

When I watch some mud larks. Getting stuff out of the water I think of my dad, always when we were near water he would throw a penny in for luck. This was probanley ingrained from our ancestral/pagan roots.
