That meat grinder comes from a hand cranked mincer, which most people of a certain age (l still have one somewhere!) would have used for mincing meat to make sheperds pie or cottage pie, depending if using beef or lamb/mutton. There were different sized holes, depending how fine you wanted the mince to be. So nice to see you back. Wishing you all the best, for ever, not just 2023!

So good to see you two back at a river! That is a powerful light if it needs a fan! 😮 what is the name of it? I could use something like that since very often I find myself out after dark tending to my animals. My biggest fear is being out there and not seeing a mountain lion, bobcat or coyote , or even one of many wild pack dogs in our area, and having it sneak up on me. I have a decent light, but that would be so much better! Maybe I can order one, straight from the company? Please let me know, at 60 yrs young, I’m not as quick as I used to be . 😂

Happy to see you guys out and about again. ☺ That is one powerful magnet. Only problem I'd see with it is if you "catch" something that is way to heavy to budge, I'm hoping you'll be able to get the magnet off of it. Perhaps you should have a grappling hook in your equipment if you don't already have one, to help pulling in the heavier items you find. Loved the feisty mini "lobster". 😂 And yes, even if those claws aren't that big, they do pack a healthy pinch! 😱 Thinking about all the tools you fish out of the rivers/waterways. Do you keep them and add them to your own tools? Some/many of them seem to be quite nice and also expensive to buy new. Anywho... As always, please stay safe. Much love to all 3 of you. //Solani

Hi Solani yes that’s always a concern with such a strong magnet! Yes we do have a grapple hook that’s always out with us. A portable winch is good way to get heavy objects out of the water or if your magnet gets stuck. We’ve also had to use our truck to retrieve a stuck magnet but both methods are dangerous so wouldn’t recommend anyone doing them. The tools we find do get repurposed they usually clean up really well, we now have quite a collection! Take care, Kev & George 😊

Great vid guys! Good to see you back out there. I have been watching a few of you UK-magnet fishers for a while now and I’m amazed as well as slightly taken aback at what you seem to find. Both the amount, as well as the variety of items. I’ve always thought of you Britts as (mostly) tidy and keen to appear law-abiding and correct, very concerned with the opinion of others. Nearly, but not quite as much as us Swedes. But lately, I’ve been forced to reassess my opinion. What the he** are you guys throwing in your water!? A freakin’ meat grinder!? Why?! Tools, most of them in working order and years left in them, as well as an abundance of coins. I could continue, but I think you get the pint - sorry point, accidental thumb slip. Anyways, your waterways seem to be in dire need of cleaning and luckily some of you (like you guys) seem willing to put some effort in it. Good job 👍🏻

Hi Christian it’s crazy what gets thrown into our waterways, nothing we find surprises us anymore you name it we’ve found it! The waterways are in dire need of a clean up, it’s why we like to magnet fish and if we find something interesting along the way it’s a bonus! We hope our videos help to highlight to people just how badly polluted the waterways are 👍

Always good to see you at work.... I don't know if you, or any other Magnet Fishers want a challenge ? There are some very shallow spots on the Birmingham Canal Network. They are so shallow and filled with debris (and silt) that the narrowboats in the area are running aground, or getting their props gunked up with garbage - some with magnetic parts ? The areas are noted on Cruising the Cut's latest video: No. 301, at 16:17 - the narrow part of the canal past the 6 Oldbury Locks, leading to the Tidford Pools. You will see the incredible amount of stuff that got wrapped around their boat propeller. Would you, or any other Magnet Fishers, fancy the challenge ?

Hi Sian, we have magnet fished quite a few times in Birmingham but unfortunately don’t live that close. There are many many magnet fishers that do magnet fish Birmingham so pretty sure it will get cleared soon. As it happens, part of the 'contest' for the Birmingham Canal Network was not only to cruise into different, maybe smaller, or off the beaten track canals, but also to pick up whatever they could from the canals - there was a prize for that too. Hello from the North Country NY, I was happy to see you two out and about enjoying the outdoors and throwing the magnet around, I cant wait till we thaw out and I get to try out my new magnatar 360 my wife got me for christmas. it actualy almost got to the 40*s today with rain no snow lol... those carbine bits were a nice find especialy if you can still get some use out of them, and that new magnet was pretty neat I am setting my (smoke) alarm to get one 😁. Thanks for your videos. They are always enjoyable to watch. The Swiss Army knife is one of the small ones. I carry one on my key ring. The notches at one end usually hold a plastic (bit flimsy) tooth I know, and the other one a small pair of tweezers. Both item available as spare parts, if the knife can be cleaned.
