Things Not To Say To Scottish People
Ойын-сауық
Deep-fried food, bagpipes, an absence of undergarments: it’s fair to say that Scottish people encounter quite a few stereotypes about their lives and homeland day to day. But what are some of the most pervasive - and annoying? We asked some Scots to reveal all.

When we lived in England, people used to ask my husband why he wasn’t ginger. His response was always ‘I have an English grandfather, it polluted the bloodline. I married a ginger hoping to correct things, but unfortunately the children are similarly afflicted’.

That's awesome. I worked with a girl who was a ginger, and her boyfriend was a ginger. Even though they looked nothing alike apart from their hair colour, people would always ask if they were siblings. Eventually her boyfriend got so fed up with this that he would say yes and then start making out with her. She went along with it because the reactions they got were apparently hilarious.

We were doing archery that day guess where I wanted to aim it? 😂

My father worked with a Scottish man. He really liked him, he said he was so respectful. He said he never understood a word he said. Everyone called him Scotty. When Scotty would talk to him my father would say yes if he thought it was a question. No matter what. Who knows what he agreed to all of those years.
GET ON MA LEVEL! as a Scottish girl who has moved away from the uk and moved to the us (sadly (i miss the sound of bagpipes)) i am currently listening to 'Flower Of Scotland' on max volume at 22:57 pm 🙃😂😑
Olay so I'm not a fan of too many deep fried stuff myself but that's just me personally. I like bagpipes but not all the time. I live in Glasgow and there's always some busker playing bagpipes in the town. It gets old after a while. I like the English, bit of a playful rivalry going on but nothing serious as far as I'm concerned. I don't get the heroin thing either. I'd be quite annoyed if someone said that to me tbh. The one thing they didn't say which annoys me all the time is when people say British and mean English like "British accent" when they're doing a English accent and yes, that's technically correct but they're using British as a synonym for English, which it's not.

Never heard about any unusual connection between the Scottish and heroin before.🤔 Obviously everyone asks the Scots about hating the English because we all love it when you yell, "FREEDOM!" 👍
@bozieduble8541

It comes from the film Trainspotting (based on the novel by Scottish writer Irvine Welsh). Don't know if it's based on personal experience of drug culture in Scotland, but the association of heroin use in Scotland is more prevalent because of Trainspotting :)
It's been many, many years since I visited Scotland but I don't recall all that much deep fried food. We did have haggis one night. It was... interesting. The more they talked about deep-fried this and deep-fried that, the more I drooled. How many of them get asked to say, "Captain, my engines canna take much more!" How about, "Have you ever seen Nessie?? Can you introduce me???"
The accent ..freaking love it ...💕💕

I was sure that I want to firm a Norwich uni n make Aberdeen as my insurance, but literally I'm an overseas applicant n the vibes that Scottish people is soo great. Like people r so friendly in the gc n the staff and everything is soo soo nice. Like Scotland uni attracted me towards them even tho at the beginning I was sure to firm England.
I live in Canada and I remeber a teacher back in school who had that rich Scottish accent and I asked about it and she said " I just can't hide it can I ?" I remeber thinking " you were trying to HIDE IT ?"
Deep-fried Mars Bars and Creme Eggs are bloody amazing! Shut up! ^_^
I'm dating a Scottish girl, one of the best people I've ever met

Love this, get em told !
I’m Scottish and I agree with EVERYTHING that they said 😂🏴🏴
I visited Scotland last year for vacation and it was beautiful. And the food is great Also maybe it's just because I'm American but deep fried food is the best ❤
Bagpipes are awesome I’ve heard thunderstruck on a bagpipe and is sounded so badass
"I want my clothes deep fried. It's a fashion statement!" lmaoooooo I can't even XD

I know. I have a really thick accent and talk quite fast. It is really annoying when people watch things like this and then are like "OMG! I haven't got a clue what you are saying! Slow down!"

My dads family has crazy thick accents and I always had a little trouble tuning in at first (I'm from New Zealand). But then in high school I got a Scottish teacher and I was the only one able to understand her

It’s a bit irritating when people aren’t Scottish themselves and when they find out someone’s Scottish they say “oh. I’m Scottish too. My grandads sisters husband is Scottish”. So what if you have a connection to Scotland,I didn’t ask ?
The lad in the light blue t shirt favors David Tennant. IMHO. Also I agree with the guy with the plaid scarf. The sound of bagpipes gets in your blood.
I wish you didn't tell Scottish people they will go to jail for making a joke with their pug.

About bagpipes being “awful”- they were initially used to ward people off, so something that was created to make people go away isn’t exactly going to be the most appealing 😂 personally though I agree that bagpipes do make us Scots feel a wee bit patriotic when we hear them 💕🏴
Thank god for this

Been waiting for this one, come on the scots hahah
My top 4 worst things to say to a Scottish person: "Are you English?" No mate, we're not, now don't ever say that again if you want live "Wait... What did you say? I can't understand you!" Maybe not, but we don't care cos we still sound great "I have Scottish ancestors who lived 500 years ago!" If your ancestry is anything over 80 years, we don't care at all. And the worst of them all: "dO yOu WaNt To HeAr My ScOtTiSh AcCeNt?!" *NO! WE DON'T!* And if you do? We'll just make fun of you :)
My son teases me mercilessly because I happen to *LOVE* bagpipes! Always have... 🤷🏻♀️
