If you so much as mess up a bumper and have to get it rewrapped to match the rest of the car I'd also go with just painting it. Even if YOU are a good driver doesn't make the difference, if seen cars in my residential area get side swiped while parked in front of their own houses. Thata a mirror and maybe the door that now has to be rewarded instead of just hammered out and painted.

As a painter and veteran paint correction detailer, Im not a fan of wraps, but as a guy who also has experience with vinyl and still cant wrap anything without wasting more vinyl than actual stays on the project and damn near has a full meltdown everytime lol , I got nothing but respect for guys that can wrap on a professional level. Especially the chrome foils and really difficult vinyl that shows every imperfection. I still much prefer painting things but I can totally understand the logic behind wraps in many situations and I fully understand why they charge so much. #respect 💪💯

While there are some people saying it's easy, just do it yourself, the vast majority are just talking about the 10k part. I always thought it was cheaper and that's why people did it over painting. No I know it's not and think it's stupid. I agree that it would be hard as hell to do. But that skill required doesn't equate to 10k to me. I'd rather pay to get it painted. In the end, it will look better and it will be cheaper.

Same could be said for ppl paying crazy money for ceramic coating which any pro detailer knows is nothing more than glorified liquid wax. 10k would get you one hell of a nice paint job tho but I can understand someone with a super high end car that wants a custom look without potentially hurting the value by painting it, makes sense in that case. I actually have some ideas of combining the 2 by using vinyl on certain parts but actually clearcoating it as well. Like an overlay type of thing. I don't see too many ppl doing that. I've been doing it for years in my custom clipper business but definitely wanna incorporate it into car/bike stuff once I get a bigger shop.

As a car painter i do NOT get why wrap installers get shit about paint being better and stuff, like they are two different medias for two different reaults and are both impressive and amazing for their own purposes!! Love your wraps dude, they look sick

Yeahhhh, my family owned an auto body shop for over 40 years, i grew up prepping cars for my dad to paint and later doing estimates and insurance paperwork, and later yet would do estimates for my brother and cousin's wrap projects (we did everything, but we decided to sell when we were approached by an ex-NFL star walked in and made us an offer we couldn't refuse). I can tell you 10000% that a really good, experienced painter with a decent mixing machine can make any color you want and give you an impeccable paint job that would look 1000 times better than any wrap, would last longer, and wouldn't cost ANYWHERE near $10,000--*that's* insane. For the record, I've helped my brother wrap several car, and it *is* a time intensive job and not always easy work, so-to-speak.

It doesn't scratch if you know what you are doing. Most cuts like that are between panel gaps, so it's not actually on paint. Cutting on paint is usually done with knifeless tape. It's generally not a real concern, unless you find a real budget wrapper.

If you ever wrap your own car, you'll understand they are all dumb. It's really all jokes for people on the inside who know from experience. Especially the $50 alibaba wrap, like that's even a thing real professionals would use. The bare minimum is vivvid starting at $600. Paint scratches in accidents too. Blades in panel gaps don't scratch anything. I mean, it's all things you would think if you don't know, but none of it's true.

Did some more research and if wraps get dirty they have to be cleaned off “IMMEDIATELY” with paint you could probably do it after like a few hours and if it does get ruined just have them paint over one spot instead of redoing the ENTIRE CAR. That's pretty normal for chrome on an exotic or something like a g wagon. Most normal cars start just under $3k. Chrome vinyl is 3-4 times more expensive and more difficult to work with plus exotic cars are much harder to wrap

I understand what you mean but let me clarify. With a wrap, say you get hit at a stoplight from the side. Well, go pay 10k for an entire new wrap cause it's fucked. If it's paint only some of it has to be painted over. Obviously if your car is totaled it doesn't matter. But even small accidents and a scratch will make you pay the amount of 2 cars cause you bumped something. This is why I prefer paint

I don’t understand how people actually like wrap over paint. Wraps just cheapens the car and makes it look tacky. Wraps were a good choices because it was a cheaper alternative a few years ago. But now people are paying same if not more for a wrap job. A nice paint job will always look better

Think the big differences, unless I’m wrong which I might be if you get into an accident with a paint job, they can match the repaired section to the rest of the car, with this would you not have to re-wrap most of the car since it looks like it’s one continuous piece? I really don’t know much about car wrap, I just like watching him do it.

​@@yipperdeyipFrom most of it of what I can tell is people don't understand that when you get a car professionally wrapped it looks amazing and holds up slightly better than paint and can even retain it's paint coat underneath without it being ruined (so long as you get the wrap removed by a professional too when/if you get it taken off or switched out). Many of the problems presented only happen when you get an amateur who thinks they can wrap a car and then they screw up parts, use the wrong material, waste material, and or it gets damaged making you need to take it to get the wrap taken off and if again you go to an amateur than they are gonna tear up the paint coat underneath too. So again basically all of the problems presented are non issues when you get someone to professionally wrap a car, also if they are comparing it to stickers than that's one expensive long lasting sticker that isn't gonna come off unless you pay some amateur to apply it or get the car in a wreck.

$10K is so dang unreasonable...like let's say material cost $300. and let's say it takes 3 working days to wrap one car. You'd be charging 400$ an hour on labor. A bit of research tells you a typical wrap should really only be 7-9 hours, and material can be as cheap as 50$ for all the material for a car, so the above example is pretty generous on material costs and time to wrap. The only way this number makes any sense is if material costs you WAYYYY more and you are VERY slow at wrapping. (like taking 1 work week to wrap a car in 1k worth of vinyl, 75$/hr labour) I'm all for getting paid what you are worth, but it should work out to a reasonable hourly labour cost. (If it takes you 1 day to wrap a car and material cost you 500$, 1800-2500$ seems totally reasonable!)

Let’s put 10k for a wrap into perspective. This is coming from someone who is a certified painter. Assuming you’re painting a large vehicle (Honda Pilot, Hummer, F-350, etc) with the highest quality mica powder paint, you’d spend 2-3k MAX. After that, you’re paying for about 10 hours of labor. This includes full prep work, fixing any minor dents or scratches, painting, buffing, the works. Assuming you hire a painter who has 10+ years under their belt, that could be $300 an hour MAX. So… 5-6k for a premium job on a large vehicle. The only time 10k is an acceptable amount of money on a paintjob is when it’s custom designs on the car. For example, several different colors in different places that you specify. The kind of wacky car you’d see at a car convention in Vegas. Now remember that paint is forever when it’s well-maintained. Wraps aren’t. When paint gets messed up, it’s possible to repaint the panel. When a wrap gets messed up, however, it isn’t always possible to just do one panel. 10k on a wrap is highway robbery. You may find people stupid enough to pay it, and I applaud you for that. Just don’t expect sane people to back you up.

My daily driver has been wrapped for just about 2 years and looks brand new minus the few rock chips on the front splitter. My weekend car has been wrapped for 5 now and I'm just now getting ready to pull it off
