Living full-time in my rolling tiny home has been the best decision of my life. Off-Grid living offers a peace and connection to life that you just can't explain. When i first started van life i build a stealth camper van with the mindset the you had to live a stealth van life and i soon discovered that you can just live the city van life and boondock in the countryside and as long as you are respectful of the backcountry and cities you live in. Stealth van life in not necessary. Be proud of the life you choose to live, Share this van life journey with everyone. Remember Tiny Homes and The whole tiny house lifestyle is very popular and #vanlife is no different. When you don't hide it people will come say hi and ask you questions. The world is more curious than hateful. Well......Welcome to my everyday van life adventures. My name is Chrome Valdez and i travel full-time with Cruz the bulldog. Stay weird everyone and thank you for being here.

Sorry about ur mom. I lost mine 7 yrs ago (but who's counting?)... when I'm sad, it makes me feel a whole lot better if I talk to her just like I did when she was alive... and then I ask the angels (or whatever spirit is listening) to please make sure my mom gets that message. Maybe light a candle for your mom on her birthday, and on other holidays that she believed to be special too.

Worst argument ever. You put children in this world to love them, not to train them into nurses. Love is what makes you care for somebody, not duty. Duty is the worst form of motivation. Duty is ugly. Personally, my mom made my life an absolute hell... of course she fed me and clothed me - but that's the minimum. An orphanage will do the same. I don't owe anything to her - nor to my dad. It's almost a curse to be born in this mad world, she should excuse herself. She should feel sorry for bringing me here without being ready to love me. She smoked cigarettes all day long. Almost choked to death in her smoke. I don't care what your parent did or did not do for you - you have no duty towards them. They made the choice to have children. The child has the choice to be free.

Just lost my mom this year. My sister and I took care of her last few weeks of her life. That was extremely tough physically mentally and emotionally!! It made my sister and I both stronger individuals in life and I feel that was the last lesson that my mom had to teach to her daughters. Way to go mom great job raising two very strong daughters. We love you and miss you every single day!!

Stagg Chili was a FAVORITE of mine when I was living out of an old beat-up camper through a brutal Duluth, Minnesota winter. I'd lay down a layer of cornbread mix in a 9x9 baking pan, spread Stagg Chili over the top of that and liberally sprinkle chedder cheese blend over the top. Bake it per the cornbread directions in my propane oven and have myself a nice hearty "Chili Bake"!! Yummy!!

I was devastated when my dad died. He was a huge part of my life and I came to love him so much more in different ways over the years. He had just past his 91st birthday in November less than month earlier, and only 11 days before Christmas in 2014. Mom took her life in September 2006, a few months after their 60th wedding anniversary, after years of bad health. Honor your parent(s) as they are always a part of you- make them proud of you😿😸

Chrome, I am in a wheelchair, have only 1 leg, and getting UP off the couch to get into the wheelchair got so difficult, I stopped using the couch. I learned that day beds are built much higher, so I buy those. (I have two) fill them with big beautiful pillows and they work great as a couch, a place to take a nap, a guest bed, and so easy to get into the wheelchair and out.

Edwin Caywood (commenter) made a great suggestion about getting her a transfer board. There's also another variation of that called a Beasy board that could help your mum from her chair to wheelchair. There are also chairs/recliners with lifting and lowering capabilities. Those are pricey, but can help with the mobility issues and prolong her independence/self-reliance.

I work in the Human Services field in the USA. Your mom might just need some in-home services. I don't know Canadian Healthcare but I would guess she could be approved for a few hours per day or week for a home health care aide to come to her house to help her bath, minor cleaning, cooking if needed, medication monitoring and general assistance. My job was to keep older adults in their home by making sure they could get the services to help them maintain their independence longer because Assisted Living and Nursing Homes have an impact on the longevity of patients once they lose independence and are placed in these facilities. Check into home services under Canadian Healthcare to see if she qualifies and she probably does based on her mobility. I hope this helps and have fun on your trip.

Yes, totally agree, plus the local health board should also have info on fall prevention (which could be an issue couch to chair), in-home physio or OT to help build strength, and equipment recommendations and loans. I realize Chrome doesn't read comments but hope an admin gets him thinking about interventions that help her stay where she wants to be.

You should pitch Cruz for the "December 2021 Guilty Dog" Calendar! Hehehe! Also, have you looked into a "transfer board" for your Mom? It may help if she has enough upper body strength to raise up a bit and scoot her bum along with the board. The board can be used to get in and out of different situations (bed, car, couch, chair). It's a very simple piece of equipment that works pretty well (IMHO). I'm a caregiver for the elderly and quadriplegics. Please forgive if my suggestion is redundant.

Chrome, keep the faith! I’m always trying to look at the world as a glass half full as well! My wife and I went through similar with my MIL (she lived with us), and we faced the struggles of keeping her healthy. We had to bring her to the hospital after a fall, and tearfully we had to admit to the hospital that we couldn’t keep her safe from herself. Keep doing everything you can for her but also, having been in a similar “boat”, keep your wits about you. You will recognize challenges to your Mom’s safety before her ego will let her face the same reality. And also an IPA guy here, but I’ve got a Quad Hopped, Imperial IPA from one of my favorite breweries for ya if they ever open the border again and you’re in the Niagra area!
