The Stowa Partitio Grey Limited - What it does
Don’t be convinced by the Partitio 's modern look, the original design the Partitio takes heavy influence from can be seen on models dating back to the 1930s, proving that the art of simplicity is also timeless.
Coming in at 37mm wide, with a thickness of 10.8mm and a lug to lug measurement of right around 46mm the Stowa is on the smaller side of watchmaking. It’s worth taking particular note of the lug and case design of the watch as well. The case keeps things simple and goes for a clean round traditional design with the rounded bezel being the only distinguishing feature. The lugs, however, are very long and prominent. The lug to case ratio means the Partitio's small footprint only feel smaller when on the wrist.
The Partitio Classic is available in three different dial colours. Black, white or grey. Matt black and white are the standards, original options with the sunburst grey being reserved exclusively for this limited edition model we have with us today.
The first telltale sign this watch has historical ties are those syringe hands. This injects a level of class and elegance into a typically vanilla watch type. The Arabic numerals of the Partitio are well proportioned with a subtle green tone to them thanks to the addition of lume throughout. The second hand has dropped any sign of a counterbalance creating a short but distinctive look. Stowa also opted for their older logo here which we’re naturally big fans of.
Turning the watch over we get a look at the ETA 2824-2 powering the Partitio Classic in grey. On the non-limited edition models, the movement is hidden behind a solid case back so it’s a fantastic addition to be able to see the now-iconic movement in its own right ticking away.
The ETA is the top grade with Geneva stripes and blued screws. What can we say about the 2824-2 that hasn’t been said before? There’s a reason why it’s one of the most popular movements. It’s practically bulletproof with a reputation to match.
Getting hands-on with the Stowa Partitio
This watch has managed to pull off a difficult task. Something which is hard to execute and pull off well. It’s managed to find uniqueness in such a simple design. On paper and in person the watch is a simply designed time-only watch with a universally approved design. However, where this watch really transforms is on the wrist. The watch has an unexplainable quirky charm that exudes when paired with the right strap (more on that in a moment).
The lugs play a big part in how the watch feels on the wrist. In fact, the watch can easily be split into thirds with the lugs taking one third and the dial and case taking the remaining two respectfully. Of course, the sunburst grey adds to the watches flair. The inclusion of syringe hands cleverly hints at the historical relevance of the watch. If you weren’t aware of the original model from the 30s, the watch hands effectively portray this watch has more of a story behind it than other modern designs.
The Stowa performed most effectively when worn in a smart casual situation. This makes it ideal for office wear, effectively getting the balance right between professionalism and style. Naturally, I experimented with a few strap options...this is where the watch really came into its own.

I bought it for my birthday in 2020 and despite I had to return it 2 times for servicing the faulty movement (and it still has a minor issue that I can live with), this is still one of the best watch purchases I ever made. I was torn between this and the Nomos Club and I'm very happy that I've chosen this. This design was way ahead of its time in the 30s and it's a timeless classic that's never going to look old fashioned and will never go out of style and can be worn in almost any situation depending on the strap. It's not officially COSC certified but even after dropping it accidentally, still runs well within COSC range. If you've missed this, just buy the regular one or wait for the future LE models. The latest one was a deep blue sunburst which was also great. Sometimes I question if I really need anything other than this and a beater so I've just started downsizing my collection but this is a keeper for the rest of my life.

I watched this Video in 2020 when I was in canada just before Corona started. I am still owning number 13 and I wear it every day. It still works with +1 second a day which is incredible. Soon I will get my Oyster Perpetual to Go one Step further but will keep this watch because I really love it

Would’ve been nice if they kept the older logo on the wind rotor as well.

Awesome watch! Thanks for showing this one, @WatchGecko! I'm definitely purchasing one next month. Glad that there are still some left. I owned many watches from different priced tiers but it's very seldom that a watch crosses my sight that immediately hits the "I NEED THIS!" and "I CAN'T EXPLAIN WHY BUT IT'S ONE OF THE GREATEST WATCHES EVER!" button at the same time. Glad this one did! I owned a Antea 365 before and this will just perfectly replace it! Keep up the great content & all the best!

I have a 7 and quarter inch wrist and for me this case size is perfect. Whilst I understand the claim that a 39mm would be better, from a design point of view I personally think you're incorrect on this point (subjective - granted). You have to bare in mind that the dial to case ratio (mostly dial) and the uncluttered minimalistic dial design ensures a much bigger wrist presence than one normally expects to see with a 36mm watch. I have 42mm watches that look smaller. A 39mm watch on this case/dial for most wrists would actually look like a dinner plate. Added to which the scale of the lugs would then necessitate an increase in size to maintain the correct proportions and design language and we would be up to a 20mm lug width (not so elegant) and we may also see an increase in the lug to lug, which would be problematic for many. But please tell the viewers what your wrist size is in the video so they may consider what I am saying for themselves. Of course I am not saying you have to agree, but you must admit that the watch has more presence on the wrist than many watches of this case size. Beautifully shot video and super strap combinations.

I'd agree with you re the size - although I'm very pleased with my number 008 (which I ordered after your first video of this watch - yes, you are to blame!) I think 39mm could have worked better and with the relative increase in font resulted in a better overall product. Having said that I love the piece - the quality is great for the price point, the grey is just the right shade and the lume is amazing. I have mine on a black strap at the moment but come warmer weather that Painswick type softer option beckons.....

Nomos does something similar, with relatively long lugs on small diameter watches. Maybe it's a German thing?

  • @nodidog
    @nodidog4 жыл бұрын

I personally love the prominent curved lugs - very German, it reminds me of A Lange & Soehne (as does the flat-sided case design). I think this Stowa is excellent, a nice combination of interesting details and design restraint
