Yea but there is much less cooling space than even a 212 evo and it is less reliable. Something like an h100i would work really well, but there is actually no point to this. As you saw, it performed worse than the Noctua cooler. It's more expensive and can break in more places.

The point of water cooling is to tranport the heat away from your components and then dump the heat, not to simply circulate it in your case like a tower cooler (which this does a worse job than on either perspective)

Ausintune Okokokok calm down dude. First off let’s learn about how bear is dissipated. The heat from air coolers is at the fins which have a large surface area. Then you move air through those fins and the heat is conducted to the air. Thus the more surface area, the better the heat dissipation. Same reason why bigger radiators work cooler. So if you have the same amount of surface area then it doesn’t make a difference in cooling thanks to the first law of thermodynamics. Energy is neither created nor destroyed. It’s only transformed into different forms. In our case we just move the heat around.

people still don't believe watercooling blows AIR through the radiators. Watercoolers don't dissipate heat more or faster, than aircooler, because in the end it still is air taking the heat from a metal surface. Water has more thermal capacity, especially with a watertank in a custom loop, but don't expect a watercooler to heat up your room more than an aircooler.

So it adds a bunch of complexity with a rotating bracket, hangs a gigantic weight off your CPU socket, and eliminates the main advantage of a water cooler (venting hot air directly out of your case, instead of recirculating it)... why is this an improvement over a normal AIO?

As far as I can tell, this serves one purpose and one purpose only: To give integrators the ability to advertise their machines as "water-cooled" without having to upgrade to cases that can actually mount radiators, or having to deal with constraints of locating the rad, but there is a major but here this aio will Stress the MB because of the size + weight, hot air not vented out of the case, possible problems with memory modules and it will probably perform worse than any 120 air cooler while being more expensive....

no seriously... This product is pretty useless. Anywhere where this cooler fits, you can have a larger air cooler. And normal liquid coolers can fit into smaller cases where you can mount the radiator on a separate location away from directly above the CPU socket. So I give it DAM WELL ENGINEERD award along with the DAM USELESS award...

lonewolf5460 if it gives worse temps than the small noctua, which fits into every case out there, where do you need the Cooler Master? This cooler won't fit in the Sentry, nor in the DanCase A4 SFX, nor ncase m1. But cases like the M1, and e.g. Cougar QBX, can fit normal 120 mm radiators, that are thicker and therefore more efficient. Any case larger than those mentioned above can most likely fit a larger air cooler and/or better AIO liquid cooler. But in the case I am wrong, please show me a case where this cooler would be better than any other option.

  • @seven9766

@@matt2m You could put a better air cooler in the space this thing occupies. The whole point of watercooling is having the heat dumped AWAY from the rest of the components. Putting the Rad right above the CPU makes this no different to an aircooler, except with added pump noise and point of failure.

Was quite disappointed in the performance of this cooler (MasterLiquid 92) as I was on a pre-order list up until a few days before it shipped out. I caught wind of some early reviews that were just slamming it for it's poor performance and some noise concerns so I ended up sticking with the cooler I've already got. Yes it runs a little warmer, but I would still go with this cooler because is is smaller, doesn't take up any fan slots (a key feature for the case I want to use) and the temperature would go down to idle like a brick, instead of what I've noticed on most air-based CPU coolers! ;)

Is it possible to switch the fan from the Noctua to the water cooled top fan to possible lower the profile a bit? From the few images I could see it looks like the fan connectors are standard on the Cooler Master's fan. I think if Cooler Master could shrink both fans they could lower the design by a lot and maybe increase the cooling capacity as well as allow it to fit more cases. Just a thought...

I actually have two 120mm AIO rads in my Silverstone SG13 with no case customisation. 1* Corsair H75 for CPU and 1* MSI 1080 Sea Hawk with AIO cooler. It was pain to figure out how to cram them in there, but I'm very satisfied with 50 deg. C CPU and 55 deg. C GPU temps under load, while being quiet.

Nice review. The only thing not covered is weight. One of the bigger concerns of mine when it comes to CPU coolers is how much stress they put on the board due to weight. With a radiator and water, I was surprised to see it's a lot lighter than expected. Obviously, aesthetics matter, but otherwise I don't see a reason to not go with the NH-L9i. It really seems to be quite the rockstar of a cooler. Noctua NH-D14 1240g Noctua NH-L9i 420g Maker 92 875g

My main concern in any liquid cooled solution is the heat mass of the liquid. The reservoir and radiator both will raise the ambient temp within the pc case. A flaw that the all in 1 theory of cooling. Either or both radiator, reservoir should be located externally as to remove heat from case. Radiant heat being undesirable when avoidable.

It's a good base idea to build on and improve. If they keep working on it and some of the other manufacturers take up the trend we could see some really interesting coolers in the years to come. Now as far as the performance Noctua could be considered the king of air cooling. Not surprised at all.

Well I see screws to those fans! Maybe top fan can be removed...this will correct the height clearance I suppose! To correct the air flow, u can install the top fan on the bottom. This will direct air away from cpu(-radiator in horizontal position, fan cables are also detachable)....

While the Noctua is technically cheaper, anyone who cares about aesthetics has to pay double to change the fans to a non diarrhoea colour. I was looking at a Noctua but decided to go for a BeQuiet because it works out to be half of the price once you include fans and a shroud.

To me it sounds like the CM cooler was quieter unlike some other comnents are saying, and that being said, next time you should use some sort of sound meter to compare. Also, were the CM's fans clear? As it sound like they were hitting against something and making a rattling noise.

Proves time and time again, when FPI, air flow and dissipation area are same, air cooling beats water (as there is no pump to add heat into the loop). Additionally, it doesn't add the water leakage risk, and as an advantage has higher operational lifetime and MTBF.

  • @Alex-xj6ff

i wish all the temperature test were actually done in a case. the noctua has a great advantage when not inside a constricted air flow. compared to the water cooled which wouldnt share that much of a difference

Why not dismounting the top fan and test in single fan mode? And if the fins aren't that dense the difference should be minimal although I wasn't expecting the L9i to be that good which means even the AR06 would be a straight up upgrade

  • @GeorgiBonchev87
    @GeorgiBonchev877 жыл бұрын

It would be interesting to see the performance of the Master 92 with just one fan installed, as it will make it shorter. Maybe compared to the box intel cooler? In my opinion the only viable application for Liquid AIO in ultra small ITX builds would be to use the radiator and fan as an exhaust fan for the case so it won't heat the interior of the case. It will also be useful for small cases, where they put the PSU above the CPU socket, thus restricting airflow and height clearance for the cooler. This fixed design doesn't work in both situations and for the same volume you can get superior air cooling, since the much smaller Noctua outperforms it.
