They're Right: Classical Art IS Superior!

Ойын-сауық

Woke academic says Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel painting is racist and a symbol of white patriarchy. In fact, leftists have repeatedly declared classical and Renaissance art as a manifestation of white supremacy. Do they have a point?!

    The Romans were quite civilized. With the advent of Christianity a lot of what the Romans had established: Modern cities, democratic principles and philosophy went down hill and only recovered when the enlightenment ate a bit away from Christian power. Art needs freedom. Christians oppressed every form of art that questioned their belief, thereby hampering every progress in art and civilization in general. Please don't mistake an individual's genius like Bach's with the authoritative religious system he was forced to work under.

    @SimpleMinded221 Stop being so simple minded (HAH!). A little bit of pride in being something is good, necessary, even healthy. The bad part is when you have a whole lot more than a little bit. What I find bad and sad about those who are very religious, especially the monotheistic, is how they often live their whole lives in terror of divine judgment. The Heavenly Father, whatever the name or form you worship him under, in this worldview, is this severe patriarch that can't wait to punish you for the slightest of sins, real or perceived, and then torture you forever if you weren't a good enough boy or girl. Suuucks. How about you just earnestly be the best kind of person and believer that you can be WITHOUT living in a permanent state of terror? Wouldn't sincerity of belief and willingly following these religious rules because they're good for you count for more than being an obedient and terrified sl-ave? And I'm speaking as an Orthodox Christian from Eastern Europe. Don't get it into your head that I might be some atheist otherkin freak from some hellhole in the depraved West. This is a practicing Christian European man telling you this opinion, not some "heathen".

None of them were smart enough to come up with their own lists because they haven't read the Bible. I heard from a "woke" fellow white person that wiping my behind with "white" toilet paper was an example of "heteronormative, colonial, transphobic, patriarchal, white supremacy" - so I bought a used copy of Robin DiAngelo's book - "White Fragility" - and now I keep that right next to the toilet and I just tear out a few pages as needed - works great - AND - I feel more "virtuous" too with no real effort on my part. The truth is that working class black people and those of us who are working class white people seem for the most part to see right through this woke nonsense - and we understand that "we" aren't "each other's" enemies - no matter how hard the oligarchy and their brain-dead minions among the 'woke' cult try to get us to hate and distrust each other.

    I love this. I teach art and I believe that Western art is *objectively* better than the art of any other culture. It's not that other cultures haven't created unique and great works of art; but collectively, the body of Western art is so much better in terms of technicality, development of those techniques, and the creation of entirely new forms of art. All art has similar themes and emotional weight but Western art has that on top of the technical foundations. There is a reason people who want to be artists come to Europe (or at least train in European methods) from all around the world.

    Old European art was some of the best ever made, especially the renaissance period, where large amounts of money was spent on art and architecture, making Italy from Rome to the north unbearably beautiful, it is something of an experience coming from a Protestant country where churches are mostly decorated, to what is similar to an work of art like many of the catholic churches. Whoever is theological right, Catholic Churches are definitely something to see no matter what religion or no religion a literal work of art many of them.

    @@fortunatomartino8549 I can't say specifically at the moment but I think Sowell (who is black and very conservative, if you didn't know) is making a point that he makes in other writings. He says geography is destiny, and that the geography of where you grow up shapes you and makes you and your community and culture what it is. Growing up in the fiercely windy, largely empty, high altitude plains of the mountain west, I can tell you that we have a culture here (those of us who are true westerners and not transplants) that is fundamentally different from the midwest, the northeast, the northwest, the south, the southwest, and both east and west coasts. The nature of the geography has changed the people who grew up here. You can feel it when you talk to people who move here and don't understand what we are like, why we do what we do, and who we are. I believe this is the same for most places. And Africa refuses to face the fact that their problems are endemic to who they are and where they live. And until they do that, until they face the reality of it and figure out how to change that (as so many cultures throughout all of human history have done), they are going to continue to wallow in poverty and oppression, and continue to be led by psychopaths and the Chinese (but I repeat myself).

    Renaissance art is peak civilisational Art, which sadly, is yet to be bettered to this day. The sculptures and frescos of DaVinci, Raphael, Michelangelo, Donatello, Bosch, Botticelli, is high Art of the finest calibre. Its an inconvenient truth, that whilst other cultures were making masks out of wood, European artists with the same resources were creating timeless master works that we cannot recapture over 500 years later. We truly are living through another dark age! The West BUILT civilisation, right or wrong, its a feat that other cultures simply did not / could not accomplish - philosophy, science, Art, Literature, poetry, architecture, astronomy, technology, medicine, infrastructure, the list goes on and on and on. Yes, other cultures had there own iterations of the aforementioned, but none did it as prolifically and as well as the West. The inconvenient truth is that yes, some cultures are better, more civilised and more evolved than others. Its an objective fact based on historic empirical evidence, any other position or belief is indefensible.

    I suspect the free fall for the West will start in 2025 after the 2024 US elections. That election will end badly no matter who "wins". Tr#mp wins the government will refuse to function including the Civil service. The Dems win, the fraud will be so blatant that investment capital will flee as most corporations not in bed with the Dems will fear a shakedown.

    Europe was fortunate to have deep harbous where the trade of the latest materials products and ideas could be shared quickly. The vast majority of the African continent had no harbours at all and that's why cultures there stagnated and didn't advance. When trade did occur in most of Africa, it had to be brought ashore and moved by hand overland through dangerous jungle or up disease ridden rivers but that has always been hideously expensive and prohibitive.

  • @ShanghaiRooster

    @ShanghaiRooster

    Quite so. Africans didn't invent the wheel because they (like pre-Colombian America and Australasia) didn't have horses to draw wagons. The horse was introduced into Egypt by the Hyksos, but even after it remained a relatively rare and prestigious animal until the Assyrian conquest, being used to draw chariots only, not wagons or the like. The nature of Africa, where trade goods needed to be carried by hand over long distances, is quite probably a major factor in the development of slavery in the continent. Faced with having to pay bearers for their work or enslaving people - the excess of whom could be sold at journeys' end - the rationale is obvious.

    From "Absolutely ridiculous", I suppose you intended to criticize the points raised, but I'm afraid you neglected to come to a point. Are you saying that the perception of the superiority of Western (Christendom) art is due to same-cultural bias? If that's what you meant that is what you should have said. And they answered that objection. Other cultures acknowledge the superiority of Western art.

    @@digitalnomad9985 I assumed it would be quite clear as to what I was commenting on. 0:13 "American academic Robin D'Angelo has said The single image I use to capture the concept of white supremacy is Michelangelo's God Creating Man" blah blah, and goes on to point out how god, Adam, and the angels are all white. If you then read my comment, I said that was ridiculous, and pointed out that "ALL art is dominated by the culture and people it comes from". Meaning that it is not racist for those depictions to be white as they came from white culture and religion, whereas, Indian art depicts Indian deities, African art depicts African deities, Japanese art depicts Japanese deities, and so on and so on. It has absolutely nothing to do with "white supremacy".

    Painting accurate portraits or full body pictures of people didn't just pop up. The art of painting took hundreds of years before paintings like Michelangelo and Da Vinci did was possible. The paint itself had to be invented and made, there's no paint tree to go and pick up all the suitable colours. It's generational skill, more like an industry, evolving hundreds of years. There's nothing like that elsewhere.
