Of course it's legally distinct, nobody was arguing it wasn't, but legally distinct doesn't mean creatively distinct. And either way, Pocketpair is now a kinda big deal, most of what Nintendo goes after is small developers who can't do anything because of their financial status.

People make a big deal out of "ripoffs" as if that isn't what game development is literally based on since its inception, taking something you know was popular and making it better or more appealing in some way, shape or form. There's nothing morally wrong or even grey about it.

​@naganut9718 dude...Pokémon was a rip-off, too. It was literally based on the mechanics of 2 different games. The only thing they did was change the monsters you were taming. And Palword? The only thing IT copied was the designs of some of the Pokémon. Their mechanics are 100% unique. They combines guns with mobster catching and battling. Pretty sure that's act never been done before. So what if they look a lot like various Pokémon? It's clearly NOT Pokémon, just heavily inspired by it, which Halo was by the literal US Marine Corp. Don't see the government caring about that, so why does Nintendo care about this? It's because Nintendo is losing money and customers because they got lazy and stopped producing GOOD games. Palworld is incredible popular and it's still only in it's BETA version. It's literally not even a full GAME yet, and it's STILL become a legitimate threat to one of the biggest names in gaming. That should tell you all you need to know.

There are so many Pokemon it would be impossible to make a monster capture game that you can't make this argument with.

The downside of the argument is how little work goes into either game's designs to make them distinct from a basic animal. Especially lycanrock or Wooloo. XD

Because I can't argue your logic, since you didn't use logic to reach that conclusion. ^^; but a majority of pokemon's designs are just "basic animal with one fantastical change." Venomoth and butterfree are both incredibly basic. Even some of Gen 1s icons like Rapidash and Charizard are very basic as a horse with fire on it and a rather simple dragon design but with fire on the tail.

XD But the reason I use Lycanroc, is the midday form is the one they are accusing of being copied in Palworld. The least special one. It's just a scruffy dog/wolf with a brown and white palette. I will cede that midnight form does get more creative. It's more to be along the lines of werewolf type iconography rather than just a wolf.

Also Anubis, people don't realize Lucario is based off of Anubis too, Lucario and Anubis's only similarities are being humanoid (Because guess what, Anubis in mythology is too) and being a jackal, there are many arguments you COULD make against Palworld in a copyright claim, but claiming Anubis is a copy of Lucario? The thing is, they do though. Do you not remember the dexit controversy, the tree incident, or the day 1 reviews for SV? Every Switch entry has been heavily criticized by the fan base for the lack of significant progress and quality compared to other Nintendo franchises. @LucasF25 I'm an artist as well, not triggered in the slightest. As an industry this sort of thing is commonplace and not at all impacts our craft. We have ALL taken inspiration and flat out plagiarized to some degree the works that have preceded us in order to succeed or test the limits of mainstream acceptability in certain markets. A great case of this would be the graphic design industry. So when it comes to little fantasy animals getting caught in devices (you know, like a trap), it's safe to say that for a single company to cry foul every time a critter is used as a character, similarity or not, they would do better to consider themselves first.

I wouldn't be surprised if they literally took that face from Meganium's 3D model. It's a level of shameless that i can't even fathom. Not only is it towards Pokémon but also aggravating that this is the game that blew up instead of all the "Pokémon-like" games out there where the artists at least give a shit about trying to do their own thing, even if you could still draw direct parallels.

Its not longer, it's still only been 2 to 3 years since Scarlet and Violet. If you're talking about Pokemon Legends: Z-A, Pokémon Legends: Z-A isn't the next mainline Pokemon game, it's just apart of the Pokemon Legends spin-offs that are better then the main game.

Lucario is based on anubis, obviously they'll look similar, same with that stupid sheep, it looks like pokemons stupid sheep because they're both stupid sheep. The only ones that I think the comparison is justified for is that very obvious lycanrock recolour and the meganium that only had its flower moved and that's it, and that is in no means justifiable reason to trash on what looks to be a solid, albeit goofy looking game with some great looking designs

How many dog pokemon are there that look totally different? There's also a few sheep already that are pretty distinct from each other. Bunch of cats, too, that look individual. Bird pokemon that are all different and identifiable. The point is, if you're going to base something off a real-life animal or thing, maybe make it look distinct from something that already exists. There's plenty of fan made pokemon games that have original designs and the number of fakemon is staggering. I could sit down and make a sheep pal in the next 30 minutes that doesn't look like a pre-existing pokemon. Lawsuit aside, I just think it's pretty lazy. Like, if they used a different art style, they might not be criticized so much

To be fair Nintendo doesn’t own rights to sheep. Or to animals or to mythology. Or food(?). Also note that Pokemon THEMSELVES copied ANOTHER monster taming game called Dragon quest but it’s mostly gen 1 Pokemon. Yet you don’t see too many complaining. As one once said to the first crème cookies, “it doesn’t matter who did it first. It only matters who can do it better.”(if you know the history of Oreos then you know)
