Steph has always been disrespected. Check any media ranking over the past 6 years and you’ll see him and Harden constantly getting placed under younger and more physically imposing players. Warriors lose like every hypothetical matchup online too. You hit a bunch of good points in this video like Shoe brand affiliations affecting media agendas and people getting subconsciously affected by Stephs size and lack of physical dominance. Steph gets criticized despite being the greatest offensive force in NBA history while Giannis gets showered with praise for beating 4 booty teams last year and having a low 50s TS% against the Celtics this year. Curry has been #1 since 2019 and it’s not debatable

These ranking lists are firstly designed to generate engagement and views for ESPN. To the extent that anyone even believes what they write in good faith is about what people will think the new season will bring not what teams or players history says they have already done. The Dubs are a contender for sure but by no means am I crowning them champs already. It's a new season with a new team in a different league. If the young guys develop as planned they have every chance to repeat, but other teams have potentially improved too.

Just look how Nets were falling apart despite once they had elite superstar talent with KD, Kyrie, Harden, and lots of vet player but they don't have chemistry at all. Warriors chemistry is simply the best by far. It shown on and off the court through all the players and it's all thanks to Steph, the most selfless superstar.

I love how they say these things about Steph Curry, means Curry is gonna take it personally and win another championship #Warriors On the other hand, I know why they disrespect Curry. It's not being cause he's not amazing at the game, it's because he doesn't fit the mold that people view as in the 'GOAT' conversation. He's a small guard, people have biases before even watching basketball and still do while watching. They want to believe TALL and AESTHETIC players are better than everyone else. And his personality is not imposing like MJ or Kobe. So people find it easy to disrespect him. They just think he's a nice guy with a baby face that can shoot.

Steph really doesn't care. He may, possibly give it a little lip service because he knows his fan base dwells on this crap. Steph understands the basic truth - he isn't playing the same game as these other players. The others succeed because of individual talent. Steph succeeds within the matrix of his Warriors teammates, the team's selfless style, and the Communitarian nature of the Warriors' organization. I really don't think he cares about how he stacks up against the others individually. And frankly, I don't necessarily think he is "better" than the others. How would you test that, anyway? It has no significance. The unassailable fact is that, within the environment of his team and its culture, Steph can't be defeated by these others and their entourages. Let's stop worrying about real or imagined slights. Steph has.

Edit: I just saw this guys list, and it is worse than ESPN's. Anyway, in a few weeks Thinking Basketball will come out with their top 10, and it will be more thoughtout and internally consistent than either of yours I agree about the team stuff, but think saying it is disrespectful to put Steph at 5th is kinda missing the forest for the tree's. There are 6 or 7 players right now who are all really, really, really, really good, while all being similarly good. On any given day any one of those players could be the best player. For example, Kevin Durrant is 8th on this list, which is probably reasonable(i'd probably have him 6th, or 7th). You are saying Steph should be 1. What odds would you give on Steph finishing higher than KD in the MVP race in 2023? If there is a big difference between 1 and 5, surely the difference between your pick for 1, and 8 is huge. So 3-1 odds? 4-1 odds? That would obviously be a terrible bet. We all know KD can absolutely be the best player on the planet. So can Jokic, or Embid, or Giannis, or Luka, or even Lebron. If Steph was ahead of Jokic, Giannis, or Embiid people could just as easily make a video about how those players are being disrespected. Look Giannis has been in the contention for the MVP for 5 straight years, and has been ahead of Steph every one of those years. How could ESPN disrespect Giannis and put him behind Steph. Jokic just won back to back MVPs, and just basically broke advanced stats while having one of the best offensive seasons in NBA history, so disrespectful to have him behind Steph, who was amazing in the playoffs, but was clearly worse during the regular season. So what Stephs team beat Jokic's, Jokic was missing his 2nd, and 3rd best player. Embiid has been a close runner up in 2 straight MVP races, and just won the scoring title while playing the least amount of minutes per game to win that scoring title. How disrespectful to have him behind the guy playing with an all star team! All these would be about as reasonable. Also Luka plays as well as anyone else when he is in good shape, and he seems to be better conditioned than he ever has. (I would personally have Luka clearly behind Jokic, Giannis, Embiid, and Steph, but also at his age, you can only expect him to get better, and he has already been really good. So I can see predicting him to be the best player in the world) All these people are approximately as good as Steph. Because they are all insanely good players. It is not disrespectful to say someone has been barely worse than the back to back MVP. It is a reflection of how competitive the race for the best player is.

@@abigairey9543 But also when Giannis won he had just won a couple MVPs. and been the runner up for an MVP of the last year. Lebron was the best player of the last decade by far, and had just been the consensus best player in the world for 90% of the last 10 years. Steph has obviously been a very very very good player leading up to the 2022 finals, but I think after those wins, it would be hard to make a case for anyone other than Lebron or Giannis as the best player in the world. While right now I think I could make a case for Steph, Giannis, or Jokic as the best player in the world Also, I want them to be less bias, and to stop just saying the best player on the team that won is the best player in the world. So can we not yell at them for being more nuanced. Wanting them to make mistakes, because that mistake is precedent seems problematic.
