Former KISS member Ace Frehley is releasing new music, and also stirring up some drama with his former KISS bandmates Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons. Aside from some good ol' fashioned rock'n'roll feuding, today I'm going to listen to Ace Frehley's new song "10,000 Volts" and see if it really does making is former KISS bandmates look like imbeciles.

I so wish I could have a face to face conversation with you!! As I listened to this and heard certain parts, like the shakers, you took the words out of my mouth...i agree, I admire Ace for standing up for himself and letting his past fellow band mates know his opinions..good for him. As for AI, no thank you, if that runs away with us, we will not be seeing live bands anymore, and that will be a tragedy, plus it will spill over into everyday living and I believe that is dangerous for Humanity...we are spiritual beings and we must not forget this. Oh the song?! It was OK, bland but OK, did nothing for me as a work though, I wish him all the best.. And loved your red jacket with yellow shirt and great shoes... Your fire signs in your astrological chart gives you that flamboyance and kind heart. Thank you Justin, I really enjoyed this video tonight.

A big part of the problem with Kiss was the inability of Gene and Paul to laugh at themselves and how ridiculous their whole shtick was. Ace isn't a perfect human being or anything, but at least the guy knew that the whole thing was a big spectacle and had fun with it.

I was very good friends with Janet Raines (God bless her -RIP). We were both standing there talking, and you approached us. She introduced you to me and you looked at me and said, "Dude... You look so familiar, I know you from somewhere, do you play in a band?". And Janet said, " yes he does". To which I said yes but just a local band. Have to let everyone know that Steve was about the nicest guy you could ever meet! Congratulations on a great song, and getting to work with Ace must be a dream! Hope to see you around the Wilkes-Barre Scranton area soon! 🤘🎤 Rock on my friend!

Dear monsieur Hawkins. I don't know if you read these? I work as crew chief on live events. I have performed this role for your last two gigs at Leeds academy. With the best will in the world, 15 years at it and I have to sit through a LOT of appalling ghastly shit, but you guys. O my God. What a tonic. What a fucking fantastic live act. Not last year but the one before?.... The Darkness gave me a moment. One of those moments where I remember why I do this job for a living and how fucking fantastically personal, charming, charged and specially gregariously pearlescent a concert should be. These are sparse occurrences in my life and I cherish them for their rarity and value. I won't over-stuff this comment with details, but you sir? Proper gent. Absolutely stellar every time. I also worked that rain soaked bollox in Leeds when you supported Lewis capaldi . You guys were outstanding then too. Next time you come through one of "my" venues, well, I'll be looking for a fist bump. That's all, just a fist bump? We aren't sposed to have any contact with the talent , as crew. But in your case, I'm prepared to make an exception. I appreciate you and your ting on so many levels, don't stop mr Hawkins. The Darkness has thrust memories into my mind at work that are of indelible and irreplaceable value. For that I thank you. Down to my last molecule, cheers guys.

In 1976, During the opening song of a KISS concert, Ace Frehley touched a metal staircase railing and got electrocuted, it knocked him to the floor. The show was delayed for 30 minutes and Ace lost feeling in his hand for the rest of the concert. This inspired him to write "Shock me" and also was the first time he did lead vocals on a song.

Funny to me how much the chorus to "10,000 Volts" is such a "Gene" style vocal. On purpose maybe? Never was a giant fan, but always thought Ace had the coolest character/makeup. Conversely; will admit to spinning all four sides of "Kiss Alive l" many, many times while still a teen in 70's, and also will admit that practising guitar to those four sides was how l got really good, really quickly, at using cool pentatonic phrasing in guitar solos for riff-rock. Dude's got a style that you know is him, rhythmically or soloing, in the first bar of the tune, and to my thinking that's what counts most _for any player._ Thanks Ace!

Up to date? Well.. Not really. Play this song to anyone under 25. It`s NOT up to date and that`s what`s great about it. It could easily have been on his 1978 solo album. In any KISS albums. Released at any time. So it`s just classic rock in a genre that we older people loves.

If he had dedicated himself to practice an perfection, he would always be in the conversation as one of the greatest from the era. But, if you step back an see him as who he is an was, it was always real an from the gut. Flaws an all made him Ace an he proved it with his solo album. He overcame his fears an dealt with his addictions to create some all time classics. He was cool an funny, he was the rock n roll back bone to KISS an was never writing or recording because he tested an followed trends. He has been doing the same thing since the day he auditioned for KISS, rolls in with no fucks to give an just rocks out. Ace forever!!!

Hey, great review. Long time Ace fan. Saw Kiss in Boston Garden and Ace's band in an 800 seat venue in 2019. Kiss has lights, fireworks and levitating platforms. Ace has Rock n Roll swagger. He's the king of sleaze. From the South Bronx so he doesn't back down. His lyrics often reference electricity because he was electrocuted during a Kiss show in '77 and space because his Kiss character was the "Spaceman". He engineered the smoking pickup himself while in Kiss, knew how to because his hobby was building rockets. He admits that his lyrics are crap because he doesn't care. He's not for everyone, but he's authenrically himself. Gene and Paul always seem to be marketing when they talk instead of being themselves. I love the guy. With your sense of humor, I think you'd like Ace's song "Rocket Ride" off side 4 of Kiss' '77 Alive 2 record. The chorus is: Baby wants a blast Baby wants it fast. She wants a rocket ride. It's so campy that it seems like a mockumentary of a mockumentary. Sorry for the lengthy comment. Thanks for doing what you do.❤

You're totally right about the 6 years. Ive never heard someone else really acknowledge that it takes that long to heal mentally and emotionally from decades of active addiction. If I make it til February 7 without picking up, I'll have 8 years sober but it's really only the last year and a half that I started to feel like a actual functioning person again whose emotions didn't wildly fluctuate from day to day, amoung other things. I heard some old timer say at an AA meeting something like "if it took you ten years to walk into the forest, don't think you're going to be able to walk out in ten minutes" always thought that was a good one. As far as Ace, hes the reason I started to play guitar many years ago but lately I don't know why he keeps airing this KISS stuff in public. I guess it's because those guys basically grew up together and it goes really deep for him ( gene and Paul too). I don't know. He should just let the music do the talking. But honestly I guess if I had some former band mates talking shit about me like they did Ace, I probably couldn't keep my mouth shut either now that I think about it 🤔

Agree. 5-29-1994 here. The damage we do never truly goes away. I get why Gene & Paul say stupid shit about Ace. Fact is, Ace is right, they are wrong. Ace is moving on. KISS is now… avatars?! So dumb. KISS looks like imbeciles without any help at all. KISS Army from mid-70’s here.

I've never heard of this "6 years" before. I guess that explains why I feel worse, 1 year into being clean and sober after 3 decades of self abuse.

I'm about to start dealing with my demons. Thanks for your honesty. In my naive mind I thought 12 months would be a major milestone. Now I'm more prepared. Good luck to you. And to JH of course.

Ace and Slash's version of Thin Lizzy's 'Emerald' is brilliant. Their playing is very impressive........probably underplayed his hand in KISS IMO............ Cheers

The 4 if them are like a divorced couple who just can't leave each other alone and are continuously fighting over the kids and trying to play them off each other. lol

I'm 9 minutes into the video and you haven't said anything yet I didn't already know, but the previous times I've heard it I didn't have tears of laughter rolling down my face. Fucking classic!
