They bullied her in school about her accent…😭 but now she LOVES everything about her English

What does it take to build confidence in a language and country that you weren’t born into?
In today’s episode, I’m interviewing my student Zoraida Cruz. Zoraida is from Nicaragua and immigrated to the US as a teenager. She shares her experiences of living in a predominantly Spanish-speaking community, the struggles she faced and how ultimately she was able to completely transform her English and confidence to become an unstoppable communicator.
Zoraida was a student in my program New Sound. Read more about New Sound here: bit.ly/3OM4REt

Your English is beautiful Zoraida! Great job! I’m an immigrant too and happily didn’t have to deal with all this prejudice, but still have to deal with my own negative thoughts. Thank you for your example!

Her story is just like mine, I was also bullied and rejected and was the last one to be picked when we formed teams. I was lonely in Jr. High, but one day I got angry and decided to learn English and to get excellent grades to show everyone that I was better than the people who spoke English and had been living in the United States for a long time.

Thank you for this interview Hadar, congratulations to Zoraida for overcoming such obstacles and being fluent and comfortable with herself. I came to the US at age 29 my number one goal has been to get fluent and still working on it. I joined the waiting list for Hadar's program hopefully for 2024.

It is a beautiful story about your fights. I am from Ecuador. I would like one day have confidence enough to reach more goals for myself. Fortunately, I just had had a bad experience on my journey so far. I love this conversation.

Zoraida, what a journey you have come! Thank you for sharing your story, your highs and lows.🙏 I got emotional as well listening to you. Repeating your words "Believe more in yourself" I'd like to stress the importance of working on our English mindset. Thank you, Hadar, for unlocking that secret ingredient for being a fearless speaker and a fearless human. Zoraida, next time we see each other in Beyond I'd like to listen to one of those Uber stories.😉

Lovely video on judgment, fear and shame are !! Your accent is good, me I am french and I do not care about my accent. Nobody is perfect, the most important is be able to progress not the outcome but the way you build. People always will put some fences, why ? I do not know maybe because they are scared of others they are scared to lost their status, they are scared to be less good... It is stupid but human in general is stupid !! I would like to know what is cleverness today in 2023 ?

@@hmo2023Hey! As an English learner I must say that when it comes to pronunciation, it's really hard to learn, especially when you want to reach a native level, don't be too hard with yourself. Remember that it takes a lot of practice and time. Good luck!
